  1. Just wanted to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Bass Resources for making my day today! I just received my 2 Okuma Cerros reels for winning the guess the weight contest. It is really great to have a forum like this filled with an endless supply of tips, tactics, advice, etc., and great members. Signing up for this site was one of the best investments I ever made, and all I had to do was supply my email address! I have gained so much being a member here. Please don't take all these benefits and wisdom, and contests for granted. Especially thank you to those who originated and moderate this site and make it possible for me to phish (pun) 24/7!!
  2. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had the same problem I've had with the bait balls. I've used them with some success, mostly reeling and then stopping for a second. My problem has been they seem to constantly fill up with water! They have no cracks or holes but I've had three of them leak. I'm on my 4th one now and hope Koppers will replace the ones I've had leak on me. Look forward to hearing from some with similar problems.
  3. Hi Guys & Gals, Just wondered if anyone has had any experience with the rods from Acadia Sports. Got an offer in the mail for buy one get one free and wondered if they were worth looking at. As always, thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom.
  4. Got me a mojo b/c and love it. Says it's for topwater and jerks I think, but I've used it for just about anything. Funny thing, never had a fish ask me where any of my equipment was made. Once I landed them, they just surrendered to whatever I happened to be using. Hey, if it feels good, works good, why not just use it??
  5. I LIKE MIKE! You can tell he's passionate about his fishing. Oh that we all could love our jobs as much as he does. Let us not judge our fellow brothers of the fishing fraternity. Perhaps we just resent the fact we're not quite as good, nor do we get paid the big bucks, or we're just jealous. No matter what is said about him, it can't be denied he's awfully good at what he does. JMHO
  6. Looks great and really clean. Just wonder how easy it would be to tip over??? What's a rig like that cost finished?
  7. Watched KVD catch a ton of fish on 'em, so broke down and bought a couple. Usually don't fall for hype, but needed something to run fast and shallow. First day I used them caught a couple between 3-4 lbs. and was sold on them. Have caught fish with them consistently when situation called for them. JMO, but I think our attitude and confidence in the bait we're using has as much to do with it as the bait itself. Fish have seemed to hook larger fish too! Happy hits!
  8. Somehow I've wound up with 4 or 5 of them. I've found them to be more than adequate and at $39 ea. they're a "reel" bargain! Also like their service as they've fixed mine for free whenever I've had a problem. Know there are fancier ones out there with more bells and whistles and probably more durability, but for the average fisherman I'd have to say they will more than do the job. JMO! Good Fishing!
  9. I'd give some thought to getting a stronger trolling motor and don't skimp on the battery. I had a rig just like that and wound up getting a 50# to put on it and it made all the difference. It would take me so long to get to the other end of the lake and same on return trip, only battery would be barely turning prop! I'd also consider getting the 10 ft. model, as the 8' is really short! I'd also consider find a used aluminum john boat. You can do a heckuva lot with one of them. JMO. Good luck and know you'll enjoy it!
  10. Some folks have had problems with BPS extremes, but, I've got 4 of them and never had a problem. Bought an older one on Ebay and it had some drag issues, so I sent it to their reel service center and they repaired it gratus! Can't beat the price and should provide good service.

  12. West Point is one of the best lakes in the area and full of fish. It's one of the few that doesn't have wall to wall houses on it as they are limiting lakeside homes. Some of the best fishing is on the south end of the lake up some of the creeks. Never been when we haven't caught fish. It doesn't have an abundance of of largemouths as the spot population has taken over, but it is full of nice spots, hybrids, stripes, crappie and catfish. You can get a map at Highland Marina with "hotspots"already marked, but as you might imagine, those places have been beaten to a froth. It has lots of good points, islands, humps, channels, etc. Most of our fish come off small plastics, but also catch a lot on cranks, rattletraps, etc. You can also catch them on topwater in early am and late pm. If you see the birds, you'll find the fish. Just take your time and fish creeks, points, etc., and you'll find the fish. Good Luck!
  13. Got the 6'6" topwater/jerk bait rod and love it. Use it for just about everything now. Really like it it's light weight and action and think its a great rod for the money.
  14. I recently purchased a Premier spinning rod and a Mojo baitcaster and love them both, although I am really partial to the Mojo. Just love the light weight and the ability to cast just about anything with. Mine says its for cranks and jerk baits, but I've used it for just about everything and it makes for enjoyable fishing. Both rods seem to me to be very good value and perform flawlessly.
  15. 4" zoom dead ringer in chartreuse pepper! Has outfished live bait for me and have caught several species of fish on it. Luv dat bait!
  16. Got mine for same price and it's proved flawless! wouldn't hesitate to buy one IF I NEEDED another one!
  17. Since having to sell my boat due to divorce, I've been forced to fish mostly small lakes and ponds, most of which have been heavily fished. It has become quite a challenge for me and I hate to get skunked, SO, I've been forced to be creative, innovative and PATIENT! Most of my fish are caught on a zoom 4" dead ringer in chartreuse pepper fished on braid with an 18" flourocarbon leader and a 1/0 or 2/0 Eagle Claw hook. This has become my go to bait cause most people don't use them and I've never failed to score with this bait. Fish it with as light a weight as you can and fish it SLOW with very sensitive rod and I will guarantee you will get bites and catch fish. Also, try fishing parallel to bank, fishing all around the lake and you will be able to discover a lot of the structure and places that hold fish. One more thing, I never leave home without Megastrike! Hope this helps and wish you the very best of luck.
  18. Seconds on the Rooster Tails! They are one of the best fish finders available! When the water gets a little muddy I've learned to use the Vibrax models that seem to induce vicous strikes. What's really fun for me is using ultralight rod and reel and 10-20# braid. "Horsing" a fish in on a limber stick really gets the adrenaline flowing!
  19. BPS had some extremes on clearance for about $40! Can't recall if any of them were left hand or not. Good luck!
  20. 2X Finally got tired of worrying about breaking my rods every time I put them in the car, I got a pair of BPS extreme travel rods, one casting, one spinning, and find them to be more than adequate. They are both sensitive and strong and their warranty is hard to beat for the money. Just my 2 cents.
  21. Don't know where in Memphis you live, but when I lived there, which was quite some time ago, Herb Parsons Lake in Shelby Forest was pretty nice. There are also some great reservoirs down I-55 in MS, Sardis, Enid, Grenada and Arkabutla There are also a lot of lakes off the MS river that used to be pretty good. Also, for a diversion, if you travel over to West Memphis, there are tons of irrigation canals that are full of bass and Crappie. Hope this helps and wish you the best of luck!
  22. Thks so much for the source. Your are a virtual online encyclopedia of equipment and are greatly appreciated. May you live long and continue the fine service for which you have become famous! Rich
  23. Hey guys! While cleaning out fishing equipment I found an OLD Shakespeare Ultralight Wonderod. It's a two piece and only about 49" long. Has "Genuine Carboloy Guides on it and for it's age is in pretty good condition. Guess this was when the used quality cork! Has the sliding band type reel attachment. Anyway, my question is, would this be a collectible rod or would it just be a "user?" I've used it extensively in the past, but put it up long ago. It's one of the best ultralight rods I've every used and just to give you an idea of its durability, I caught an 8 lb. striper on it using a rooster tail and had no trouble landing the fish on 6 lb. monofilament! That's a testimony to the flex of the rod, certainly not to any of my ability! Any comments/opinions appreciated.
  24. Your might try utilizing a fish finding bait like a rattle trap, crankbait and/or spinnerbait. I've used a rooster tail type bait on untralight rods and reels using braid, and have caught some really good fish on them and the fight is awesome! Once you locate them you can follow up with your plastics. Good Luck!
  25. I've been using the S/K Burner in white and chartruese and have been having great success with it. I'm a disabled vet and don't have a lot of money and can't afford a lot of baits so, thought "what the heck?" Why not just combine the two best colors in one and try that. Been sticking some pretty nice fish with it and just pray I don't lose it! I've been just "burning" it in and they seem to inhale it. Used to use an old one called the Aggravator (don't know if hey even make it any more), and have done pretty well with it as well, again trying the combination of white and chartruese. That ole thing refuses to give up the ghost and the fish still seem to like it.
