  1. You might want do check out the transom-mount 40lb Maxxum. It's got the 'digital maximizer' feature which from what i've read gives much longer runtime on the same battery. -Vin
  2. I checked yesterday and the price was back up there. One thing though, now i'm trying to track my order and Amazon is showing no orders. I have a feelin' someone screwed up and they just erased my order, which has me kinda ticked. -Vin
  3. Fleet truck from auction? Looks like it's in great shape, much better than i'm used to seeing at the sales. I can't tell from the pics but if it's 4wd you got an awesome deal. -Vin
  4. As someone new to fishing, as of now I have mixed feelings about the topic. I was recently in the market for a nice spinning reel. Anyone I know who has experience fishing (not many people) always tells me that a Penn reel is as good as it gets. Coming from cheapass walmart combos, I figured they must be correct. So, I looked into Penn's current line of spinning reels. After a little research, I found out that a few of the reels they market are not manufactured by them. Rather, they are marketing other manufacturers' reels as their own. Not only that, but these reels were significantly cheaper if purchased under the original manufacturers' brand. Now, I know this is something to expect in many different product industries. However, I was told from a whole bunch of people that Penn was as good as it gets. The Ferrari (or Corvete) of reels. That made me a skeptic. In the end, I did a whole lotta research and asked a whole lotta questions. I bought a Quantum tour edition 30 and have had nothing but good times. I can't see how I might have made a better choice for what I was looking for. From what i've read, Quantum appears to be universally hated and loved. -Vin
  5. Sorry if this is bad etiquette, though I can't see how so. I'm new to this forum and thought I should mention this. I found a minn kota 40lb anchor winch on Amazon for about 25 bucks and ordered one this morning. It still says there are three available and just wanted to throw it out there to you fellas. Apparently it's over $200 usually. I'm not a spammer and have no affiliation with anything i'm just new to fishing and boating and thought this was a helluva deal. Who knows, maybe I got suckered and you can get these things that cheap any time. -Vin
  6. Any thoughts on a good 9hp I should look for in the $500 range? -Vin edit: There's an 1985 Nissan 8hp going for $800 on Ebay for example; I'm seeing all sorts of older motors going for prices like this and that's where I came up with the $1500 guesstimate.
  7. I just picked up a nice 14' skiff and the previous owner only used it once or twice in the bay. It has what appears to be a mid-80's Suzuki DT-40 outboard that from what I was told has approx. 15 hours on it (looks pretty new under the cover so i've got no reason to doubt that). I can't find much info on these motors, but based on what i'm seeing other outboards going for, I think I could get around $1500 for the thing. Does that sound accurate? I'm tight on cash and want to get this boat in the water asap, but i'm only going to be using it in local lakes and reservoirs so i've gotta get a 9.9hp outboard. Are there any recommendations I ought to follow when selecting a 9.9hp motor? I'm new to fishing as well as boating, but I got hooked and now i'm just goin' nuts with it and can't wait to be fishing on my own boat. Thanks -Vin
