  1. I've never heard it called that- but it isn't really any longer than a full cork grip for the same sized rod.
  2. For the kayak, i just went and got a pair of $12 water shoes from academy. I'm not standing on them all day- so support isn't an issue. They protect my feet from the sun and they are tough enough to walk fearlessly on oyster bars. If you've never done that, they will slice right through tennis shoe soles and sides. The pair i currently have is 2yrs old and still going strong. $12. For standing all day in the bass boat though, they're no good. You do need a good shoe for that- and I am looking for one as well. Really I need a lightweight, stand all day shoe anyway for playing in my band, so maybe I can multipurpose......
  3. Don't be silly. No one on here would buy it because its a quantum with a flipping switch.
  4. How was my comparison silly? It was to show that a snakes life is just as important - or not- as a fish's. Meanwhile, you keep indiscriminately killing snakes because of irrational fear, and ill keep not inviting you over for dinner with the family. We cool? Awesome.
  5. ^^^^^ much better than mono- feels the same as flouro to me. I'm sure it has more than flouro- but I don't notice it.
  6. You presumed wrong. They were almost certainly not cottonmouths.
  7. Please explain the importance of the largemouth bass to me , or ill just start throwing every one I catch up on the bank. ..... ( all life and the environment is important. As an outdoorsman, you should be a steward of the natural order of things. )
  8. Down here, I've noticed many times " flippin" and "punching " are synonymous. If you're asking when the flippin bite turns on- punching grass mats- then my answer is almost all year, with dead summer and dead winter being the most productive.
  9. ^^ i experimented one summer with braid, but ultimately went back to hybrid. The braid was transmitting the bottom like nobody's business, which was awesome- but where I fish the c-rig the most, its scattered wood on the bottom and stumps and I get hung up alot on the sinker- not so much the hook. Braid doesn't ( IMHO) do the bow and arrow thing as well as other lines- and that coupled with an almost impossible breaking strength- it just became more hassle than it was worth. I just went back to hybrid and use steel or brass weights now to up the sensitivity. Haven't looked back.
  10. 1) i think there may be something wrong with your calculations in regards to the amount of line you have. 2) it doesn't matter. You will only be throwing the c-rig 50yds at best. You're good to go. 3) i agree 65lb braid is odd for a c-rig. I get hung up entirely too much for that hassle. I throw mine on 15# yz hybrid.
  11. Oh, KMB i wasn't implying you started it that way. .... its just how it always ends up. The quantum hate runs deep here. I have had 5-6 quantums for about 7yrs that I still use every outing and they have never given me a single issue ever. I have no experience at all with the exo. EDIT:: or smoke- which is what the topic was about... duh.
  12. Jeeze...... another quantum bashing thread?
  13. http://freedomremembered.com/index.php/pfc-norman-michael-murburg-iii/ Nay, red earth! My Google Foo is strong my friend! Check the last paragraph of this memorial.
  14. 7'11" veritas > 7.1 quantum pt tour> 65#PP braid.
  15. Seems to me that 30# power pro says its 8# mono diameter. Does your reel have sufficient space for your needs at 8# diameter? I'm sure it does. Fish on, my friend !
  16. I use it for everything, fresh and salt- except my braid reels ( punch rod, frog rod, popping cork for salt) .
  17. Here in Florida, a sit inside is just unthinkable! ( i know people still do it. ....but i have no idea why) Having TRULLY cold water up there. ...maybe that's a question you should ask in a regional forum with kayak anglers near you. That being said, i would sell both sit insides, add that to your $300 and go to my nearest kayak shop and ask if they have anything they are selling in their rental fleet. Tell them what you're wanting to do, and where you're wanting to do it. ... and they will steer you right. That's probably the best place to get a good name brand kayak on the cheap. Alot of times with you being totally new, they may let you paddle a few around for free. If you narrow it down to two or three , rent them for a couple of hours each and fish out of them. That will tell you all you need to know. Good luck! Its addicting!
  18. I echo all the above and submit that I like 3/8-1/2oz war eagle or Hildebrandt tandem in white/clear/ shad type color. Occasionally ill pull out the ol 3/4oz Hildy and slow roll around riprap. ...
  19. ^ this. Hard to beat the elaztech fitness worm for shaky heads. Heat the screw lock up with a lighter if you use that kind. You can use one or two for a whole day.
  20. ^^^^^ I have seen it once also- its not that it DOESNT happen..... its just fairly rare.
  21. I have the older one. It is awesome. However. .... it is basically a heavy power rod. I use mine to jig fish, I'm positive I could use it for punching light to medium mats. I find the 7' medium/fast veritas to be more versatile .... its is heavier than a medium- yet can throw lures a mh may struggle with. The 7' mh veritas first generation is a great heavy cover/ bottom contact rod.
  22. https://youtu.be/314N7xIeRR8 I'm happy to see that a majority of posters on this thread are the "live and let live" type. It makes me sad and angry on many other forums where any snake discussion spirals into mythological wives tales and hate killing. A few points on this thread- both juvenile moccasins AND copperheads have the bright green tail tip. They use it as a lure for small fish and toads when they are young. The young of these two species resemble each other greatly as they are very closely related. The moccasin grows up to lose its bright patterns to a dark grey/green/black color- probably due to its aquatic environment. The story of the ball of moccasins is not even close to true. Also. ... after doing a public records search for about 30 minutes, all of Google's power can not find one single death from a moccasin in recorded American history. So there's that. I know I know. .... but you've heard. ..... I'm sure it HAS happened- but it is extremely, extremely rare. Moccasins very very rarely climb trees. The bigger they get, the less likely to do so. They are not arboreal. So a very very large majority of the time- any story you here of a snake falling ( hahhah jumping) into a boat- are most likely common watersnakes. A vast majority of people that spread misinformation about snakes, couldn't tell a black snake from a coral snake and don't care two bits about even TRYING to know the difference. Cottonmouths are not nearly as "aggressive" or "belligerent" as people like to pretend. They do however spend their entire lives in an environment where everything around them wants to eat them. So they are quick to defend themselves. ....as I'm sure you would too. Here's a cool video from a pretty cool guy on YouTube that illustrates this point.
