  1. wow. amazon has them for 45 bucks!!! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00144COFA?smid=A2HUFQYBB8LM3&tag=yahoo-sg-20&linkCode=asn
  2. no its not even close to a $100 reel. you can get a citica for $119. if youre lookin to buy a reel from walmart, theres this bright orange reel made by pinnnacle that is like 60 bucks that is awesome. it has 9 bearings or somthing.. i cant remember the name. my buddy bought one to have as a spare to fish in tourneys and he now uses it as his main c-rig reel. granted when you dedicate a reel to only c-rigging it doesnt have to be the highest performing reel in the world, but it casts a mile and handles the 3/4-1oz weight well. i want one kinda....lol. ;D p.s. found it, its the solene. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00144COFA?smid=A2HUFQYBB8LM3&tag=yahoo-sg-20&linkCode=asn
  3. when you say im10 do you mean the asr series? cuz ive had my eye on one of those and wonder how they are.............. :-?
  4. im not sure why this a discussion. the flippin switch as used on the quantums and extremes is meant for "righthanded" reelers that flip and pitch. when you pitch into that spot, people that switch hands to reel have to do so to re-engage their reel. i suppose after years of missing fish on the fall.... someone came up with a way to re-engage the reel BEFORE you switch hands. that way you can set the hook. when youre flipping alot of the time you finish your flip with your rod in an 11oclock position and its the same situation... fish hits it as soon as it breaks the surface and youre totally out of position to re-engage your reel. thats when you can use a flippin switch. of course..... all of this can be eliminated if you would all learn to reel with your left hand when the situation calls for it...... ;) if the thought of the switch appeals to you then get it. if you dont think you need it you probably dont. it doesnt effect the performance of the reel though so its fine. my kvd has it and the only time i use it is when i need more line to tie on or cut off and i dont want my spool spinning. ;D i flip and pitch and work all my bottom baits with left handed reels.
  5. nah. id try and go to the 100 buck range and get a deal. find some things on fall clearence. you can get a shimano citica for arund 100 bucks. pflueger president, quantum kvd (maybe an accurist), diawa 100h.... things like that. you can normaly find that $100 range on sale.
  6. yeah i think youll like that alot. i would try to find a different reel at that price, but ive heard some good reviews about it too.... so hard to tell. i went with the diawa 100h when i had the choice between the two and i dont regret it. its kinda heavy though and i bought it specificly for bottom work. youre gona get alot of people tellin you not to get the megaforce. but if youve held it and liked it... id get it. diawa has an ok customer service if you change your mind.... 8-)
  7. will do.
  8. yeah big o, thats how i rig them. ive done it with both weighted and unweighted hooks. they just seem to not stay on there for anything. i get like 3 casts out of them and then i have to start fiddling around with them every cast and just throw them away after about 6 or 7. the action is awesome and they're exciting to fish with. but it's gettin really expensive.
  9. i love the rtshad, but i can NOT keep them on my hook. they come down the hook and dont run right on about the third cast. do i need to glue them or something? :'(
  10. well... i had trouble with "real" tackl bags falling apart, so i went to home depot and saw that they had a deal on two husky tool bags for 15 dollars. the next time i went i brought a 3700 box with me and it fit in the larger bag. i bought the tool bags and found that i could get three 3700's and a small box in the big bag and 3 3600's annd a small box in the small bag. also both of them had pockets inside and all around, plus heavy duty stitching and zippers annd straps. they are indestructible for what im using them for. they hold more than enough stuff...alot of tackle and my scale and scents and bugspray and a towel. also... i use a waterproof disposable camera that i leave in the big bag. that way its always with me and it wont mess up. then of course i have the same setup for my saltwater stuff....... ;D
  11. i fished exclusively from a canoe for many years and i love the set up u have there. one thing i found was super important was to have a cushion to sit my paddle on and even padded the paddle itself so when you paddle up on those unsuspecting fish, the paddle doesnt make any noise when you set it down. this was esp true where i fished cause it was super crystal clear water and it was spawn. also i found that a kayak paddle was much better to travel any sort of distance, but a straight paddle was the best for manuvering. i also inshore fished just fine in a canoe. fun= 25in. redfish in a canoe. ;D not fun= 4 ft. bonnethead shark in canoe :-/
  12. well i learned me something. i woulda never have thought to put feathered vmc's on bandit 100's. thats awesome thank you.
  13. go to the flea market or the family dollar or whatever and get the cheap baseball/gaming card binders. they work great.
  14. wow. apparently ive been wasting money. when i was fishing mono....big game 12#... i was changing it like every 2 weeks. or less. that mighta been me being o.c.d, but its cheap and i can not STAND line that comes off in little curls. line memory makes me want to vomit. if my reel sat more than two weekends without fishing... i would pull about 15 yds off of it in my living room to see if it curled. if it did it went in the trash. i fish poly now so its much better... and more expensive. i need to get some line conditioner. my braid which i mostly throw when saltwater fishing... i typicallly leave on till ive used a 1/4 spool and then i swap it over to another reel with a mono backing. i think its a preference... like the post above i know people that have the same line on for months and years... and fish with it fine. but then when they cast out and i see those curls running out and slowing down a perfectly good cast..... i want to push them out of the boat............
  15. i fish mine like a c-rig all the time. i scale down to 10llb test and 1/2oz weights.... but i throw a 2/0 or 3/0 hook and any bait id tie on a c-rig. when u drag the carolina...the bait pulls down.. towards the bottom and looks like its chasing the sinker. but i beleive that sometimes when youre pulling that over a point that is stacked with nuetral or inactive fish... it looks unnatural for somthing to be chasing something. when i KNOW the fish are their but theyre not biting, the power dropshot comes out. when u suspend your bait 18-30" off the bottom and just wiggle it.. then drag it horizantaly with no sign of headin twards the bottom, i think its mimicing stressed prey, and its some thing they havent seen that day. same principle as a suspending jerk bait as apposed to a crank bait. one mimics a strong unwary baitfish drawing attention, and the other a baitfish that may have survived a schooling inicident earlier... but is now struggling. both have their place. im just glad that most of the people around here havent taken up the drop shot in earnest and certainly arent fishing it like me! ssshhhhh dont tell anyone. :-X
  16. u just have to get it out of your mind that dropshotting horizontally is different than c-riggin. its not. i run a "dropshot" rig with all the same components that i do a c-rig basically. works great. 1/2oz weight...2/0 hook...i think its somethin the fish havent seen too much of. 150 other guys drug a lizard on that hump next to the ledge this weekend. throw a fluke down there with a totally different action........ and hold on.
  17. i personally like a bait that swims upright everytime. EVERYTIME. terminator and booyah counterstrike seem to track true for me. thats about all i look for in a spnrbt. i think most other aspects are the same in most brands. a little more vibrationn here... a bit more toughness there....u can make a cheap wal-mart bait work great for a little while. terminator basically has it all for me.
  18. if i were you.... i would get the combo now. its a good deal. then.... take that 50 bucks and put it toward a shimano rod in the near future. then when you get it, take your old extreme reel that you love and put it on the new shimano rod and then you can compare the two setups. you can fish all next season with the two and when it all goes on sale again next fall, youll know more what you want. all you will be out is a rig that you dont like as much as the other... but itll still be a good functional rig. no loss. dont forget to factor things like xmas and income tax rebates where you may end up with a new rod or reel or both. you said yourself you have to put your boat up for winter. plenty of time to get the other rig before spring. if you get the combo now you can have both. if you wait youll have to choose again. just my .02
  19. nah. heres an observation- wheather or not the water temp is right, the sun still shines less... the fish know fall is here. they know winter is soon. just like all other wildlife. of course the water temp must hit that majic temp to starrt killin off the shad for the bass to go stupid.... but you can bet that they are thinking about... and probably occasionally actually moving...on to their fall staging spots. by the middle of this month your neighborhood bass arer on that hump in front of that creek.... waiting for the shad to move in. go get em.
  20. figured it out thanx!!!
  21. i didnt see a size limit posted. crap. i cant get phootobuckett to work for me either... lol...ill try again.
  22. whts up with that? i cant get a pic to load here for nothing. what am i doing wrong? :'( :'( :'(
  23. man im glad i live in florida. bass fishing 12 months a year! when i get bored with that... inshore fishing is hot in the winter too!!! ha!
  24. your breaking system does have an effect on your casting distance. set it about half way and then if your not having any overrun problems, then go slowly down from there. if your used to throwing a bc then you should be fine about 3-4. maybe even1-2. this will be the max your reel will spin. maybe a heavier lure will impress you on the distance, depending on the rod...but like the other guys said...25yds is more than adequate for a 1/2oz spnrbt.
  25. dayum. thats a nice reel. probably doesnt have brakes though... just a spool tensioner. wait till tmrw and im sure reelmechanic will tell you all about it.
