  1. Ipt - is the important number when you're concerned about the speed of your lure during a particular presentation. Ratio is important when you are deciding how much physical work you want to do to accomplish that speed.
  2. It will be fair at casting 3/16+. You won't be bombing 60yds or nothing. It will pitch just fine.
  3. That's is awesome! Wtg dad!
  4. 7' m/f veritas 7:1 carbonlite reel 12# YZ hybrid Academy h20 squarebills primarily No hook change
  5. Well you know what I'm going to say. ......lol. 12# yozuri hybrid
  6. Well they're made to go together. ..so it should be pretty balanced. The older models are alot stouter than their ratings. ....the 2.0 is closer buy still a bit stiff. If you were getting a brand new 2.0 for jigs and t-rigs, I'd get a 7' mh/f and. 7.1 revo.
  7. If you're in a boat, stop making long casts. Get fairly vertical on the spot your fishing. Drop that t-rig down and you will have more control over the amount of weeds you're picking up. The other advice given applies as well.
  8. Shaky head Jig T-rig Crankbait. In that order.
  9. I only peg when punching, and I've used toothpicks for years and years with nary an issue. That being said, I'm switching to bobberstops this summer I think. Simply for the ease of use and consistencies.
  10. ^ I'm telling you man, if you double bag it. ....this is the answer. Its compact, malleable, and will hold ice all day this way.
  11. If you're just looking to keep fish on ice to eat, you can spend lots of money on this specific issue OR you can do this. .... Go to your local Walmart and get two of their big blue insulated freezer bags. On your way out of the store, grab a large handful of umbrella wrappers. Now when you go out to catch dinner, get your bag of ice and put half in 1 bag, place that bag inside the other bag, and pour the rest of the ice into the outer bag. Now you have a double insulated, softsided bag that will conform to most anywhere you need to stuff it on your yak. Place the umbrella bags in the outer bag, with just the openings hanging out and Velcro the bag shut. Now when you catch Mister lucky fish, pull an umbrella bag out, put him in, and put him in the INSIDE bag. This will keep fish up to 27" cold all day in the summer heat in Florida. I place this right under my thighs at the end of my seat and the ice keeps me cool while I provide shade to keep the ice cool. Boom. Edit: the Walmart bags are $2. That's a total of 4 bucks. It will easily last a year. Mines going on two. I don't keep bass to eat. .... but I do keep speckled trout, redfish, flounder etc while inshore fishing. This is how I've done it for about 3 years now and it works perfectly. Do NOT use a stringer. I know I know, "I've done it for years. .." whatever. The first time you reach down and pull up a snake trying to eat your fish, or a gator grabs it and you violently go for a swim, you will never do it again. If this hasn't happened to you. ....give it time. It will. I won't even get into having a stringer in saltwater. ......
  12. Attattching rod holders to a milk crate solves your tackle/rod issues. For your paddle. ... I personally set mine across my lap most of the time. I have a big enough belly to hold it firmly. Another thing I do though, is my kayak has bungees on the bow, and I slide the blade of my paddle under them and it holds it securely down the length of my kayak. I do this as a more "long term" solution such as getting out, retying/ changing lures, unhooking a difficult fish, etc... Anytime I need to have both hands and not worry about where my paddle is. Some people add a bungee across their bow and drill a hole through a foam golf ball to do this same thing.
  13. Personally I believe putting a motor on a kayak defeats the entire purpose of having one. Why not just get a gheenoe? Having said that, I wish my kayak had a rudder. Anytime I'm paddling in whitecaps or crosswind, and when there's a breeze and I want to fish a particular path- I find myself wishing I had one.
  14. ^^^^^^^ that link and Salt Armour are the same company. Don't know what's up with that, but I will vouch that its legit. I have 4 of them and they shipped quickly with no hassle and are great quality.
  15. Heat up your screwlock with a lighter.
  16. I have a 7'11 veritas flipping stick that I punch mats with. So. ...yeah.
  17. That button at the bottom must be PULLED inward, and then a pin locking the side plate will be released, then you can gently spin the cover off. Accurists are fabulous reels and yours will make an awesome crankbait reel. Get it properly serviced and put some 12# line on it! Enjoy!
  18. I've used many different kinds and they are generally all the same. I am currently using SaltArmour brand gaiters and they are pretty nice. They have some pretty outrageous designs- mostly targeted to the motorcycle crowd I assume- but their more subdued ones are great and their prices simply cannot be beat anywhere. They regularly have 60%-75% off sales on their Facebook page.
  19. Dude! That's a monster mudfish! Congrats! I catch alot of bowfin when punching mats as well. ...good fun!
  20. I Co- angle. A 20ft z commanche with a 225 Yamaha will easily do 75mph. With room to spare. A 21ft bass cat pantera with a 250 will likewise be pushing 90. Both these rigs could approach the 100mph mark. Meanwhile, an 18' express hyperlift with a 150 on it will Max around 70. All of these rides tend to cruise- even in tournements, around the 45-55mph range. Its never the speed that makes me nervous- its the person I'm riding with.
  21. Beginner advice from me: Go to your local kayak rental place and try as many kayaks as you can. Talk with the rep and get all the advice you can. Then, ask them if they have any rentals they are selling from their fleet. This is a treasure trove of bargains. Most kayak places are dealers for certain companies, and those companies want their latest and greatest models for sale/rent- and so inventory liquidation is an almost yearly event. You could EASILY get a solid namebrand yak for half off this way. Buy a quality pfd and wear it. Always. A longer, skinnier boat is a faster, easier to paddle one. The opposite is true of short, stable ones. Keep that in mind for the environment you plan to use it. Questions/ remarks for this thread: The perception pescador is just a rebadged WS tarpon. It is a great, proven platform for an awesome price. OP- have no worries, all techniques are do-able in the kayak. I punch mats in mine- sitting down. The Carlisle day Tripper paddle is a cheap, solid aluminum paddle that is just as light as paddles twice its price. I highly recommend this paddle as a " first paddle". If you really get into it and decide to upgrade, store this paddle in your hull as a back up. If you decide kayaking is not for you, you're only out $50 for a paddle, and its not a turn off as a resell. It is at least a name brand. Box store, cheap, new yak recommendations: If you want to stand and fish in calm, smaller waters, or marsh/ estuaries in the salt : BPS ascend- 12ft If you're fishing bigger waters, like to cover large areas, and are in deeper water with bigger waves- Perception pescador 14. Good luck. Once you fish from a yak, you will find yourself wanting to fire up the big boat less and less.
  22. I personally don't like the flush mount behind the seat holders. .... but its entirely because of how close it puts my reel to the water- not its actual function. If you feel comfortable using it- it'll be fine. Its designed to do exactly what you're talking about doing. I prefer to use mine as a great place to stow my net.
  23. I'd get a 7' mh/m and use it for most everything.
  24. I use a 7mh, bantum curado, and 15# YZ ultrasoft for all my inshore fishing. Like mentioned above however- a 7'mh uglystick and a good 40-50 series spinning reel and 20-30lb braid will catch a vast majority of inshore species.
