  1. The problem is you're looking for a description of something that isn't a constant. Truthfully, i feel a jig bite isn't MUCH different from a t-rig bite. Or any other bottom bite for that matter. Because they're all the same by being inconsistent. Lol. Theres no one way to describe it to you because there isn't just one type of bite. You have to experience it enough to know. Its learning the lure. As for reading the bottom, I can easily tell what is on the bottom while dragging a jig. Even better with a c-rig. Everything down there feels exactly the way you would expect them to. Rocks are hard. Wood has a "thunk" feeling. Sand is soft but firm. Mud is mush. Mussels kind of feel like rocks, but you will feel the "hollowness" of them and occasionally feel the sharp edges. Etc. Again, experience using the lure leads to learning the intricacies.
  2. Yes. The answer to that is a resounding yes.
  3. Deeper water- bigger fish. Hmmm .... Exception to that rule would be all of Florida. Lol. RW is right though, its a weather pattern issue. If our water froze hard here in Florida. .... we would have no large bass, because our waters are (generally) shallow. Well that, and the Florida strains would die. But were talking theoretical depth here.
  4. Yeah. ... in general I liked berkley 100%. I just didn't really notice enough of a difference over my regular line ( yozuri) to justify the cost. * shrug* Not to hijack the thread. Maybe I will try the red label again. I've seen plenty of positive reviews for it lately.
  5. Someone in the comments counted 47. I didn't bother. 8k just in rods. .. lol
  6. Nice fish! Congrats!
  7. I would not in any way say that ultra soft is going to be "softer" than trilene xl. But its WAY WAY stronger and light years less stretch. Its give and take.
  8. I may have to give it another shot. When I went through my flouro phase, I got some and it was just abysmal. Memory was insane and it just broke completely at random .....multiple times. Maybe I got a bad spool? Eh. .... I settled on berkley. Now I've moved away from flouro for the most part. Only use it occasionally in some crystal clear waters around here. Really just to use up what I have.
  9. Terry's rods/ reels APPEAR to be stock in this FB photo. ...hard to tell the difference of course. ... he's implying he ordered them and they arrived.
  10. I agree with all of the above. ^^^
  11. My pa in law fishes the skeet rods exclusively , and has since they first came out. He finally broke one this past weekend. .... after. ....what....7-8+ years of steady tournement fishing? So yeah, at half price you should be just fine!
  12. 'Skeet rods.....i dont think theyre that good.....' ^ YOU don't think they're that good. .....that doesnt mean HE doesn't. At the end of the day, pros only care about one thing. Their performance. Sponsors are great and all, but they stop calling when you stop making the third day cut. Winning or at least placing well is MUCH more important than pimping a product you don't believe in. Skeet must believe in the equipment becuase i doubt he would jeopardize his career over a broken rod in the classic. Furthermore... what purpose would wright n McGill have in having a "better" skeet rod and not selling it to the masses? Since the MUST know of the 50/50 oppinion of the rod, any improvement would make THEM money. This is the same argument I have with people questioning Quantum. Staying relevent is the only way the pros stay in the money. .. both on the trail and with their sponsors. They're not going to put all that at risk fishing known junk.
  13. In before the haters. Ha! I don't own one, but I have used one for about 6hrs before. ..... I like it alot. Smooth. *shrug* as nice as any other reel in the price range. Pretty much any reel in the 100-150 range is going to be just fine in almost any situation.
  14. If you have shore birds. ....you have fish. Most of the time.
  15. ? Your revo sx should be just fine as a flipping reel. What rod is it on? (It doesn't much matter actually. ..) First of all. ....I believe you are actually talking about pitching - as spool tension is irrelevent when flipping. And when pitching- any decent reel will do the job just fine. Its only letting out 15yds of line or (much) less. I believe this is actually a case of bad technique than any sort of perceived gear issue. The only "problems" and hence only "advantages" you should be experiencing as a novice pitcher are distance and backlashing. Neither of which is specifically the reels fault. Your revo sx and any 6'6"+ rod should be able to pitch a 3/8oz jig all day just fine. If you're trying to pitch more than 30-40ft you should be casting. Especially since your new to the technique.
  16. Way before GPS, bass fisherman found offshore spots and remembered them. Its just easier now. When you find a hump or brushpile or what have you out in the deep, first remember where you roughly found it ( the mouth of bass creek. ...) then look for two, hopefully three landmarks on the shore behind, beside, and across from you. ( boat dock with pontoon, dead tree with osprey nest, fallen tree on bank. ...) now can roughly triangulated where your secret spot is. Drive over it again and pin point it with your electronics, and toss out a marker buoy. Good luck.
  17. I have no experience with the Okuma- but I will vouch for the quantum. great reel. I have multiple quantum reels- and every one of them has been a rock solid reel for many many years.
  18. That video was awesome. That spinnerbait bite at the end was eye opening!
  19. I switched to yozuri. ...hmmm. ...I don't even know how long ago- '04? Haven't looked back.
  20. ^yes that. "Thas what I said, setting booby traps! "
  21. Ehhh. ...... depends on the parameters of "best". But rick clunn is in the running. ...no matter the definition.
  22. This time of year? Lol. .... a zara spook around those docks. Or a frog. There may be fish shallow from there, all the way up to those grassy spawning coves on the north.
  23. Sounds like a good place to hunt a trophy!
  24. I think my recommendation for a MH is based on my location. A medium action rod is a specialty rod here in Fla. Things are different elsewhere.
