  1. I have a 7'11" veritas with a lh blue quantum pro-tour 7.1 on it. It is awesome. That's my flippin/ punching rod. Pitching a jig or t-rig I like my new 7mh/f veritas with my old daiwa100lh, or I have an older 7'mh/f compre with a PQ on it.
  2. Try out as many as you can. ...that's the only real way to decide. .. but for distance/tracking I also have to recommend the WS tarpon. You can get an older one used for that price or a new perception pescador ( same as a pre-09 tarpon) for around that new at the box stores. Another used yak that would fit that bill would be an Oceankayak trident. You want a 14' kayak.
  3. H2o for me.
  4. They'll probably just give you one if you go down there.
  5. ^ I feel the same about copoly. A decade ago, when I still purchased mono- I preferred big game for most things. I like Cajun lightening for "heavy" cover. Then I found power pro. Then YZ hybrid. And I haven't looked back.
  6. Quick fix for that issue ( if it was me) would be to use a copoly for that 6'10" rod. That would be great/fine for all of those lures. Its what I use for all of them. <~~15#YZ hybrid
  7. The hybrid will be awesome.
  8. I can not think of one single time, in the 10-12 years or so I have been using powerpro, that ive had a fish breakoff. And I use the same spool for YEARS at a time. Fresh AND salt. To each their own I guess.
  9. Idk, I've considered the same thing. I've entertained the idea of making my own "jigs" with a t-rig, skirt, and pegged sinker. Like a punch rig but lighter. I love fishing a jig, but I lose alot, and I wonder if sometimes I could use this set up in situations that are hanging a jig too much. I also KNOW it would perform better in grass.
  10. Carolina rigged trick worm Carolina rigged trick worm A Lunker adjusted to MY personal catching is 6#+
  11. 50# is great for frogs and flippin!
  12. ^ I have found myself using YZultra soft in mist green for this same reason. I can see it better- and I haven't seen a single indication that the fish care at all.
  13. If you're strictly concerned with catching numbers, then a t-rigged zoom trick worm is hard to beat . Like a shaky head- but for heavier cover. But if you want to consistently catch the biggest fish in an area- the jig rules.
  14. If I had the cash. ...I'd get it. I don't think the fish care about the line color at all. And I know I dont at that price!
  15. ^ I'm very happy with my 7mh/f as a jig rod and my 7'11" flippin rod. I do not feel I'm missing anything in the bottom contact dept.
  16. And. ....here comes the quantum bashing. Any $50+ spinning reel in a 30 or 40 size is just fine for bass fishing. Find one you like, or one on clearence, and get it. Spend your money on the ROD. Techniques that require a spinning rig, are normally bite sensitive. Buy the best rod you can afford, and any name brand mid-upper level reel. We all could talk about how I had this reel or that reel, and they're junk yadda yadda yadda....does this need to degrade into that?
  17. ^ wisdom right there. I have and love ugly sticks. But they have been regulated to a few specialty situations, almost completely saltwater. Its not so much the sensitivity per se- if I can feel a sheepshead bite, I can feel a bass. Its mostly as I have progressed, I find myself wanting a lighter, and less whippy rod in general. They are dang near indestructable though. ...and I think the "lite" series with the cork handles is an excellent choice for any bank angler.
  18. My favorite is anytype of topwater. But other than that, I've really gotten into punching. 7'11"veritas, 65#braid, 1oz tungsten, big bites "yodaddy"- black and blue.
  19. I think you'd be fairly happy with either. The carbonlites ARE lighter. If that's what you're looking for. But the veritas certainly aren't heavy.
  20. I have caught a fish here and there on them- many more saltwater than bass- but I really want to throw them more this year. Truthfully, the problem for me used to be I couldn't stand the quality of the original chatterbait, wouldn't pay the price for a booyah one, and the SK pure poison just disappeared from the shelves. Now there are lots of high quality options and I want to throw them alot more!
  21. I never even look at advertisements or anything. I just walk down the aisle, looking for absurd prices. I clean up! I have gotten crazy deals, and even alerted the store to a mis-marked set of H2O raingear they had marked at 19.95. It is regular almost 200. Manager thanked me profusely and then condfided that they would have had to sell it to me for that if I had forced the issue. I still kick myself sometimes for being so honest . Acedemy and espicially dicks, don't advertise their super clearence prices. They just do it. I like to think its to keep loyal customers like me coming back hoping to catch a sale. It works. I go into both every week or so. And rarely leave empty handed- sale or not. I almost never go to our local bass pro because of it.
  22. ^^^^ awesome stories. Sounds like YOU are the one who's a good partner!
  23. My biggest achievement is never coming in last. I've never been in the money though.lol. I don't compete much. This is a great idea for a thread.
  24. ^^^^ FFF has a point. There are many deep holes and warm water springs in the spring creek area. A jerkbait around the grass or a jig on the channel ledges may produce better. Its supposed to be in the 20s the next two nights.
  25. They will be fine/perfect. They are slightly stiffer than rated, so if your used to something on the edge of the rating- err to the softer rod. I love mine. I would gladly buy more. ...and will!
