I have not had a single issue with anything branded h2o. Lures, reels, hooks, etc. ....all have been great.
I'm probably going to pick up my next crankbait rod from them and I'm sure ill be happy with that too.
I go to acedemy 5:1 over bps.
I use hybrid for everything.
I stopped throwing flouro on jigs. Deep or shallow. I barely noticed any difference at all. MAYBE a touch less sensitive? I doubt it. Its probably mental. Absolutely 0 regrets and no plans to change in the foreseeable future.
To comment on the little sub-thread going on here. ... many times I have lobbed a 1.5oz weight 10ft+ up in the air and had it go "thuk" and not punch a mat here in N. Fla.
Strictly numbers LMB- c-rig trick worm.
Nothing else is even close for me.
I catch more fish than anything else on a bone spook Jr- but that would be counting inshore fish also.
I think you will be safe getting a few 3/4 and a few 1oz weights.
If you get there and find them lacking- I'm sure there is a place nearby to get a 1.5 or 2oz.
65-80# braid and learn the Snell knot. Have fun! Punching is a blast! !
I use copoly (yz hybrid) for everything except punching and hollow frogs.
But that doesn't mean its right for YOU. If you're happy with your current set up- then don't change it.
These are my go to inshore reels. I love them.
If you can be confident that the reel is in good working order, then get it.
Trek, feel free to email me about taking those greenies off your hands for $20 a pop. DIBS!
I fish 12-20' with a mh/m sometimes mh/f.
This past summer, we ended up ledge fishing on a day I didn't have a crank rod with me. I tied a FFS on to my t-rig rod and caught three fish in 15'ow- one my pb ( confirmed) at 8.63#. I hooked and landed every bite I had that day.
Pretty much what DVT said.
I throw the c-rig ALOT. My personal set up this year ( new reel) is:
7'6" mh/f shimano crucial
6.3:1 bps proqual reel
15# yozuri hybrid ultrasoft mint green.
Sampo swivels. ..sometimes Spro.
Green glass beads from craft section of store.
3/4-1oz cylindrical weight
3/0 hook
Favorite bait - zoom trick worm.
I'd look for bedding fish. Regardless of water temp. ... take a minute and look. Water temp is a strong factor- but the amount of sunlight in a day and a full moon are bigger ones IMHO.
I have the older one- and don't find it too heavy at all. Probably because I have an older Quantum pro tour on it that is a solid metal beast. It balances perfect.
Any 7'11" rod is going to be a bit more "broomstick" than most other rods you're used to- its the nature of the thing.
I find that the old veritas has enough tip FOR ME- however. ... the new 2.0 has a softer tip that may be desirable to others. The 2.0s are closer to their stated ratings in terms of power and action- where as the older ones are on the strong side of everything.
The Scott Martin okuma rod is pretty awesome. I have fished with one for a day. I could easily recommend that as well. Obviously- like with any "specialty" rod- you get more with more money. ... but then there's a point of diminishing returns, depending on how much use it will get. That's completely up to you to decide.
On the low side of things. .... well. ... alot of companies have punch rods in the 80-120$ range.
Ive had a 7'11" veritas for about a year here in florida and I'm pretty happy with it so far.
