  1. I've been using YZ hybrid and ultra soft exclusively for more than a decade, and have never had a single issue with it, in either fresh OR salt water. Its getting hard to find though...I tried CXX recently and it was ok. Not YZ.....but ok. Mh rod, curado greenie, YZ 15# ultrasoft, Zara spook. 34" redfish. Like I said, never an issue with my line....ever.
  2. Any of those yaks are top notch. They are all high quality, and you should have no remorse with any of them The truth of the matter is, you should take the time to try them all out since you have access to doing so. It is the only true way YOU can be sure you are buying what is right for YOU. Good of luck and let us know what you get!
  3. Amazing fish man!!!!! Way to go!
  4. Black trick worm.
  5. Yzh. 8-12# ....depending.
  6. I use a m/f currently for these presentations, but its mostly because I'm using a rod that is heavier than its rating. A mh/f worked well for me for years.
  7. Welcome aboard! Where are you fishing. ..? I'm in Tallahassee.
  8. We are at 25% here and holding. I've had my eye on a veritas rod that's still hanging out in the clearence bucket. If it gets down to <$40 like the 5 I bought a couple of years ago, i will get it quick! Live target and Livingston are 25% off and I will probably get some this upcoming weekend. There are two gloomis rods at 25%off $119 in there right now that are trying to make me buy them, even though I have no use for them at all. Lol. No monkey! Bad monkey!
  9. Trick worm. All year, almost all presentations.
  10. Eh.... i would say the acadamy rod is a better stick. I personally feel that BPS doesnt have anything that can compete with the academy rods until at LEAST the carbonlite line. I wasnt the biggest fan of the few bionic blade rods i owned. *shrug* theyre alright i guess. Ymmv
  11. Great advice here. Follow it. Demo demo demo. With your budget , you can get any paddle kayak you want- make sure it is right for YOU. Factor in the paddle, pfd, and transportation accessories ( straps, racks, trailer....whatever you need) into your budget. Welcome to the plastic navy!
  12. Bottom contact- 15# copoly Cranks- 12# copoly Topwater - 15# copoly Finesse- 8-12# copoly Moving/reaction lures- 15# copoly Frogs- 65# braid Punching mats- 65#braid I use YZ hybrid and power pro.
  13. I like the academy h2o jerkbaits. They work awesome for me, and have good hooks.
  14. From a different price point, I fish that with a 7' m/f veritas. It has much more backbone than a medium, but still enough tip to cast the 1/4oz with authority. I love it.
  15. ^^^^° this is exactly my comment. Same set ups, same feelings, same results. I use YZ hybrid and ultra soft for everything I do in fresh and salt water EXCEPT punching mats and my frog rod. That is the only time I feel braid trully excels. Buy with confidence. 12# will do most anything. I like 15# myself.
  16. The white carbonlite is a great reel. I love mine. I'm positive she will enjoy it. I fiddles with it when I first got it and it has been a " set it and forget it" reel. Next to NEVER do I have to change a setting on the brakes or spool tension. A click once or twice- tops. It's a great reel and super light. I have mine on a 7' m veritas and its one of my favorite combos- I keep trying to find a way to throw most everything on it! Lol.
  17. I LOVE fishing the flats there at St Andrews state park. Such a beautiful flat, full of trout and redfish! I could go out there all day with just two lures....no tackle with me....and have a blast! Bone spook one knocker and a gold weedless spoon. Done. We have alot of the same fishing here to the east, but that beautiful water between carabelle and destin is just amazing to fish in! Great pics!
  18. I use this one. I rarely net a bass, only bigger ones on treble hooks. But more often than not, I'm fishing for inshore fish in my kayak, and you'll only lip a speckled trout or Spanish mackeral once. http://www.amazon.com/Frabill-Rubber-Handled-Trout-Landing/dp/B001FTSADY
  19. Is it possible? Certainly! Any given day, any set of variables......even a mostly novice fisherman could have a shot. Anything is possible. PROBABLE??? Hardly. Consistently? No chance. Consistancy is the real strength of the pros. Sure....all of us have had 20# days. Some of us may have 20# stretches....... But these guys have to have 4 straight days of 15# bags, every weekend, all year....all over the country....in all conditions. Just to make enough money to get to the next tourney.
  20. I wish I could help you personally, but maybe you could hang around Wingate's with $20 and see if someone will take you out. *shrug* Wroth a shot. If you do it any time soon, take a frog,a punch rod, and a stout chatterbait rod. That's what's hot there now. ( judging by the recent southern open there last weekend....nothing is HOT there right now....lol....but it's coming.)
  21. Try a copoly? I use 15# yzhybrid and have no issues.
  22. I have many bps reels and they have all been great solid performers. I have 5-6 PQs, 2 Rick clunns ( blue ones from back in the day), a new white carbonlite, and if I remember right, a David fritts one as well. Great reels.
  23. Pink works very well in tannic water. Ime.
  24. If you have an academy sports nearby, ignore all of the above great advice....and go buy a selection of H2o jerkbaits. They have very good, very nice jerkbaits for $5 or less. Then, once you get a feel for it....and you've decided it's something you want to obsess over.... Go and pick up any of the ones mentioned above. I have a box full of h2o's and a handful of higher end jerkbaits for when the fish are being super finicky.
