  1. :(Took a friend of mine out to do a little catfishin' on the James. He caught 17lb, 23lb, 14lb, and 10lb Flatheads. Then a 40lb 11oz Bluecat. Followed by another 30lber. I caught a couple flatheads around 17lbs each. Good times.
  2. ohhh dammnnnn!!!! You all are getting me excited! Soooon..... So soon. I think I gotta poop.
  3. What a beauty!
  4. Thank you. Yeah, it was a helluva fight. It was on light tackle and took me almost half and hour. Simon, yeah, we will do it again, and I'll get you on some kitties too. The wife and daughter "Natalie" are doing great. She's growing so fast! Thanks.
  5. Thanks. Micro, yeah, I do have on a dry top. UnderArmor as base layer, then wool sweater. Then dry top, then wind breaker. Waders and pfd. I know a guy down in VAbeach who tested the drytop with waders, with pdf in his pool and said you hardly get any water getting through. It's crucial, because hypothermia is so fast.
  6. You could use small clousers. They're my favorite to use. But your local flyshop usually has some specially made shad flys. I usually go to Orvis (it's the only fly shop I know of in Richmond). You'll be better off with sinking line too.
  7. On the yak, bank is too crowded and too many things to snag on during the false (back) cast. I've only got one, but we can switch back and forth. They'll hit spoons and darts too on a spinning rod. I even caught some trolling a spoon. You gotta make it. It's some of the easiest and fun fishing trips. It's 5 minutes from my house! Nice avatar by the way
  8. Funny Micro Thanks. Daniel, I have a camera mount on my flagpole, which I put in my rodholder to take pictures.
  9. 42lb Bluecat, 2/8/09, James River, caught using cut bait, on a kayak. Hella fight, tons of fun.
  10. There's a great shad run in Richmond in late March through April. I always use a flyrod for them. They're like mini tarpon. Eddie, if you make it up, I'll let you try the flyrod out. I just went catfishing today. Check out the post in "other fish" section.
  11. GREENTOP IS AWESOME!!! Friendly, knowledgeable fishermen/hunters actually work there so they really know their stuff. Amazing selection and willing to order anything they don't have. Also, support local business.
  12. What's a Cavitron?
  13. sometimes it's really unproductive.... I dunno. Other days, it's pretty alright. It used to be awesome ( and by awesome, I mean crazy awesome) about 5 years ago when they had the section with the lilly pads in there.
  14. Took my friend catfishing and got skunked. I had bluegills on bobbers and bottom riggs. My friend did manage to hook into this decent smallie though.
  15. Went to the concrete pond again in Byrd Park (Richmond). Caught 2 around 2lbs each. Then a 1lber (no pic). All on Yum red n black paddle tail worm with no weight.
  16. If it's small enough, live. But usually in pieces.
  17. Not really sure. Does anybody know if we're allowed to put a kayak in Lake Rooty?
  18. This was from the one with the fountain in it. The fishing there has gotten really slow there though. I fished in the one with the island and the smaller one and had a couple too.
  19. If you wanna get down and dirty, you can hop the rocks at Pony Pasture and get plenty of smallmouth. They're not gigantic, but still a lot of fun. I pulled a 3lber earlier this year. They'll take anything from spinners to lizards/worms. Just skip from pool to pool and you'll find them.
  20. Chubby thing ain't it? I still have yet to catch a pike or musky. Someday....
  21. This was before I learned to let the fish hang when taking pictures :-[. I caught it in Byrd Park (man-made concrete pond in Richmond, VA) on a black and gold jointed rapala. It weighed around 6 lbs.
  22. I usually use Gulp on jigheads, but someone told me to try night fishing with cut mullet or crab. This was on crab.
  23. .. aka Red Drum, aka Puppy Drum. Here's a pic from a couple of weeks ago. I was in Lynnhaven inlet in Virginia Beach. T'was good times
  24. Thanks Simon. We'll have to go catfishin' sometime. I'll try to give you a heads up when I go again.
  25. Thanks. I'll try to only tell people that I know will release the cats. I know Mike Ostrander. He's a member of the Virginia Anglers Club (I am too). http://www.virginiaanglersclub.org/ He's a great guy. Super nice. That cats on kayak are crazy fun. When they get that big, they definitely take you for a ride. Thanks again for the warm welcome everybody.
