  1. Yes.
  2. Open or closed, it doesn't matter. Kerfuffle? Been watching Judge Judy?
  3. Discombobulated is a fine word, but my favorite is defenestration. Defenestration is the act of throwing someone through a window.
  4. One night does not a "winter" make. Let us know when Guntersville, Wheeler, Wilson, and Pickwick ice over.
  5. From what I've read, the motor manufacturers instruct you not to use the tilt lock to hold the motor up when towing your rig. On the other side of the story, they do not endorse the use of transom savers of any type. They specifically recommend towing with the motor in a vertical position, unless it doesn't have enough ground clearance. The purpose of the tilt lock is to hold the lower unit out of the water when tied to a dock or mooring. Some bodies of water have organisms which can grow in the water passages of the motor, eventually blocking the flow of water when the motor is left in the operating position. But, they stop short when it comes to telling you to use some type of device to hold the motor in a position that provides sufficient ground clearance. It's a matter of choosing your poison.
  6. A regular, generous coating of a UV inhibitor such as Armorall will go a long way to keep the material and pleats from getting sun burned. You can also cover the seats with a tarp when the boat is not in use. Somehow I believe you already know this.
  7. Does that include liability coverage in the event you damage someone else's property, or cause personal injury, or death?
  8. Not to mention irresponsible, unless you have the means to pay a large settlement in the event you at fault for injuries, property damage, and loss of life. It's one thing to gamble with your own resources, but it's a whole 'nother thing when you leave someone else holding the bag because you do not have coverage or the means to make good if on damages you cause.
  9. Looks to me like those holes are to adjust the height of the motor on the transom. I wouldn't use them to fasten anything to the boat/motor without first checking with a certified Mercury tech.
  10. I think it's Rolls Surrette. At least that's what it was when I was buying them for my lobster boat. Here's a bit more pertinent info. Rolls premium deep cycle batteries have a reputation of reliability in the railroad, marine, motive power and renewable energy sectors around the world. Rolls Battery User Manual For over six decades , Surrette Battery Company has been manufacturing Rolls-branded premium deep cycle lead acid batteries. I used their D8 that weighed in at over two hundred pounds. Suitable for canoes and kayaks.
  11. A tow line should have some stretch to take the "shock" out of the line in sloppy weather. The sudden shock when the tow boat surges in a wave, or when the towed boat is slowed by running up the back of a wave can snap the line, and pull out cleats and even bow eyes. It should be of adequate length to provide sufficient stretch in heavy seas. You'll have to adjust it to find out what length is best for the current conditions. Having a tow line part can injure and even kill.
  12. Another important reason, is that should you die, wearing a pfd makes finding your body much easier.
  13. "And who, disguised as a mild mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, (that should be changed to a great national bass fishing web site) fights a never ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way...………………"
  14. Well, I had some good company, but I'm not so sure about you.
  15. Ain't it amazin' that a couple of decent fish can transform an otherwise tedious, quiet day into a good day of fishing?
  16. A poor seal. Too much grease. If there is no air pocket in the hub, when the grease gets warm it expands. Since there is no, or too little air in the assembly, it will force its way past what was a good seal. Another possibility is that when a warm/hot wheel hits the cooler water, a partial vacuum may be formed which sucks in water. One nice thing about bearing buddies is they have a spring loaded diaphragm which allows the grease to expand, provided it is not over filled compressing the spring when the grease is cool, then when it expands the grease may force its way past the seal. I've been guilty of over filling the hub, ending up with grease splattered all over the wheel. I was lucky that it forced its way past the seal without blowing it out. Cleaned up the mess and drove to my destination (on the Road Trip) and home with no more loss of grease.
  17. Multi tasking. Cribbing and an anchor. Excellent.
  18. Why don't you just get some wheel chocks and use those on the travel wheels? The jack stand is designed to bear vertical loads, not horizontal/lateral loads. The travel wheels are made to bear vertical and horizontal/lateral loads.
  19. Nope, it doesn't work. Yes, it does work. I have a lawn edger with a Briggs and Stratton motor. It used to be a bear to start after sitting all winter. The only way to get it started was to dump out all of the fuel and drain the carb, and refill with fresh gasoline. So, one year I decided to try Stabil in the fuel. Since then, the lawn edger starts in the spring without having to get rid of the prior year's fuel and refill with fresh. I also have it in our backup generator. It will start right up on fuel that is four or five years old. I'd have to check on the label to be sure, but I think one ounce of the Marine Stabil will treat ten gallons of gasoline. I started treating all the fuel I had in five gallon containers in the fall. What I did was to add the Stabil to all the portable storage jugs that contained gasoline. From what I read, gasoline begins to degrade in a few weeks, so I started treating the fuel for the lawn mowers, lawn edger, chain saw, weed whacker, etc. Now I add it to the portable containers when I fill them. Could be wrong, but I think the main thing that additives do is to protect the fuel lines from being degraded by ethanol.
  20. Does your trailer have surge brakes?
  21. The larger town beach. There is a ramp on each side of the pond. I just googled lake Winthrop and the map shows two parks on the east side of the pond, Patoma Park and Stoddard Park. Assuming that up is north, the beach I am referring to is on the east side of the pond. https://www.bing.com/search?q=lake+winthrop+holliston+ma&form=EDGSPH&mkt=en-us&httpsmsn=1&refig=fe94e0c35fc14a71aa57e922cb0c46b7&sp=2&ghc=1&qs=SC&pq=lake+wintrop&sk=SC1&sc=8-12&cvid=fe94e0c35fc14a71aa57e922cb0c46b7&cc=US&setlang=en-US You can zoom in and out on the "map".
  22. Try the grass/vegetation line in front of the beach at Lake Winthrop.
