  1. Nah, they become immune to it. Ever walk into a barn and take in all the pleasant and "obnoxious" aromas? After fifteen or twenty minutes you don't even notice them.
  2. Or, if you don't get caught, it ain't cheatin'.
  3. Is the boat made of wood, fiberglass, or aluminum. Different techniques for different boats.
  4. Chronic pain is continuing pain that does not get better with time. Arthritis causes continuous pain that gets worse with the passage of time as joints deteriorate. In some cases, such as the original poster the cause is unknown. Neglecting such pain can cause severe damage, such as a frozen shoulder. Working through the pain can cause damage, where diagnosis and the appropriate treatment enables the source of the pain to heal. I have a sister-in-law who hurt her shoulder. She ignored it, figuring time would allow it to heal. When it got to the point where she could not raise her arm to shoulder level, she saw a doctor. It took a long period of painful rehab to make it better. Her shoulder never has gotten completely better. Had she seen a doctor at the beginning she could have had a total recovery. I have no cartilage in my right knee. I can walk without pain. It doesn't like some positions so I avoid them. I asked the doctor what I should do to prevent further damage and he said "nothing". But I could exercise the muscles that support the knee. But the result is inevitable. Should I live long enough, I will need a knee replacement. But I can do things which can reduce the rate at which the knee deteriorates. So far, so good. The next step will be cortisone shots. When they no longer work, it will be time to go under the knife (and saw).
  5. I suggest that you take a safe boating course. It will not only tell you what you are required to have but what you should have as well. They will also teach you about navigation and the rules of the "road". After that, you can get some hands on experience. You got a good boat, for a first boat. You can learn boat handling without having to worry about a ding or a scratch in an shiny new vessel. Some states require you to get a license to operate your boat on their waters, which usually involves some studies and you can take the safe boaters course on line.
  6. There is one problem with that. Many major things begin as little things. Chronic pain should not be dismissed out of hand.
  7. I second the motion. I have a square stern canoe with a trolling motor, and a Z-8 Nitro. I catch more fish out of the canoe, but that is because I have two great fishing holes within five minutes of my door that I would not, even if I couid get on them with the Nitro. It's not just the speed with the bass boat, but I can bring more gear with me, and fish in more comfort with the Nitro. The canoe, with two of us in it, and more gear than we could possibly need is a bit cramped. After a few trips in the canoe, the Nitro feels like a luxury liner.
  8. Unless, it is hilly terrain, this could be the solution to your problem. The cart has a "kickstand" which is visible in this picture. It' ain't cheap, but it is light and you can balance your boat over the wheels then cinch it down with a ratchet strap. Costs 150 dollars, but, when you get the boat to the water, it folds up into a compact package in minutes. You'll just need to figure out where to stow it on your boat once you get the boat to the beach. L.L. Bean sells them. I have the older version with spoked wheel and metal rims which can and do rust. 9. It's a generation of wimps ?. Back in my day, most forty hp outboards were pull starts. Runabouts and weekenders may have had electric start, but for those who had work skiffs or slabs, pull start was the way to go. It wasn't until outboards went to fifty or more hp that electric start became more prevalent. Keep in mind most of my boating was done on salt water. I can see the electric start being more popular on lakes and ponds. where a larger percent of boats had pulley/cable steer. Having said all that, consideration should be given to the layout of the boat. Does it have a control console where you control the boat? Or, is it a tiller steer. where you operate the boat at the motor? I'll opt for the electric start for the console boat, and likely pull start for the tiller control. The key word being "likely". Does a pull start have an alternator to keep the battery for the electronics charged? Or, is that alternator part of the electric start package. If so, I'll choose the electric start since I want the motor to have an alternator to keep the battery for the electronics charged.
  10. '66 Gran Tourissmo Omologato here. I never got stopped for speeding, though I came close once. I was headed north in Foxboro on one stretch of road that intersects route I-95 I was travelling in excess o one hundred miles per hour. Just before I-95 I zoomed by a state cop lurking in the weeds on the side of the road. He pulled out in hot pursuit. I had slowed and was about to pull over just after I passed beneath I-95. Lo and behold two cars were wadded together on the on ramp. Salvation was at hand. The state cop had to attend to the crash. I breathed a sigh of relief as the cruiser shrank in my rear view mirror. My wife on the other hand got stopped a few times when she was driving with the top down for being young and attractive. She never got a citation. I'm from Mass, and will make my case for Mass being possibly one of the rudest states to drive in. Case in point. Want to change lanes in this state? Put on your turn signal signifying you want to change lanes, and the driver in the lane you want to switch to will speed up to block your move. In the south, even in rush hour on I-285 around Atlanta the driver in the lane you want to switch to will slow down and flash his lights to tell you it's okay to change lanes. I've never seen a driver speed up to block your move. Up here in the North yielding to another driver is a sign of weakness. Down south when a lane is closed drivers alternate when the roadway narrows. Not around here. It's a game of "chicken".
  11. Does it really matter if we call fishing a sport or not? It is what it is regardless of how we label it. Does its classification make it more or less enjoyable? It never fails to amuse me when I see someone get all in a dither over this topic. What's that saying? Oh yes, I remember now. A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. (Or be as beautiful)
  12. My take is that infusion is used because it sounds impressive, but their use of it does not conform to the dictionary definition of infusion. However, "infusion" as used by Vexus, stimulates interest, and generates discussion, which is what web sites are designed to do. in·fuse [inˈfyo͞oz] VERB infused (past tense) · infused (past participle) fill; pervade. "her work is infused with an anger born of pain and oppression" synonyms: fill · pervade · permeate · suffuse · charge · saturate · imbue · inspire · [more] instill (a quality) in someone or something. "he did his best to infuse good humor into his voice" synonyms: instil · breathe · inject · impart · inculcate · introduce · implant · [more] soak (tea, herbs, etc.) in liquid to extract the flavor or healing properties. "infuse the dried flowers in boiling water" synonyms: steep · brew · stew · soak · immerse · marinate · souse · mash · mast (of tea, herbs, etc.) be soaked in liquid. "allow the mixture to infuse for 15 minutes" medicine allow (a liquid) to flow into a patient, vein, etc.. "saline was infused into the aorta"
  13. There is one thing that makes me curious about the fiberglass infused aluminum. Or is it the other way around? Fiberglass and aluminum are different materials, and chances are they expand and contract at different rates when temperatures change. Enough to be a problem? I don't know. But it would be a concern for me, if I were in the market for a Vexus. An uncle of mine worked at Morton Thiokol in Huntsville, Alabama. A contributing factor to the explosion of the Challenger was that dissimilar materials caused fuel leaks at the o rings. The last time I saw him we had a long conversation about the space shuttle disaster. The Lexus isn't going to blow up. But time will tell whether infusing two different materials in the components is a good idea. https://www.nasa.gov/centers/langley/news/researchernews/rn_Colloquium1012.html
  14. And I thought pirogues were a Polish dumpling. ?
  15. There is a simple fix to keep the hinges from breaking. I puts cord on my seats that goes from the front of the seat to the top of the back. I made it just short enough so the hinge does not become the stop to prevent the seat back from folding open. You can see the same thing on the post above. It uses straps instead of a cord. But a cord will work just as well. Drill a hole at the front side of the bottom and a hole at the top side of the back rest. https://millenniummarine.com/
  16. Merkin? Not many will know what that is. I do.
  17. Today's dink is tomorrow's trophy.
  18. What's a senko?
  19. The forecast looks like plenty of cold air starting on Friday. Snow forecast, changing to rain along the coast. Some accumulation before the change, if it does change. Haven't seen the wind forecast. But, since you'll be ice fishing the wind shouldn't be a major factor, other than the wind chill factor. Have fun, but above all else, be safe.
  20. That goes to show you how old I am getting. It never even entered my mind that what I posted was a double entendre. Not too many years ago that would have been my first thought. Guess I've got to tell my urologist to increase my testosterone prescription.
  21. Wait 'til you find a bunch of robots on your honey holes.
  22. I love Zooms. They taste just like gummy bears. Senkos are too salty.
  23. Hmmmmm, where'd I leave that block for the gas pedal?
  24. Over the course of the season, I catch more fish out of this boat.
  25. In four weeks we'll be on the road to
