  1. I fell out of my canoe with hip boots on. It's impossible to get into a canoe, even moreso with the heavy boots full of water. So there I floated. Tried to kick with my legs, but that was a no go, then it hit me. Go to the stern of the canoe, hang onto the rail with one hand, and use the other to operate the trolling motor. Worked like a charm. Got to shore, laid on my back and lifted my legs to drain the boots. Then after much tugging and wiggling, I got the boots off. It was a warm day, sunny, with no wind. I resumed fishing, dried off, and slipped into my sneakers. Took the hip boots a couple of days to dry, even lying in the sun.
  2. You guys make me even more grateful. I'm 75 and able to fish independently with either my canoe or Nitro Z-8. Don't mind driving long distances. I've slowed down and don't have the stamina I once did, but I'm relatively pain free. Had two knee surgeries over the past seven or eight years to trim torn menisci in both knees. The orthopedic surgeon told me over a year ago that I have severe arthritis in my right knee, no cartilage, bone on bone. I still walk around normally and have no pain when walking or moving. When I lie on my side, it will sometimes bind. Still, I can free it up by rolling onto my back or stomach. It clunks a little when it goes back into place, but isn't painful. Maybe it's a no sense, no feeling thing. The doc say when it starts to bother me he'll do a cortisone injection. When it gets to the point that doesn't help he'll replace the knee joint. Hamma, we'll have to get together next year. There is one exceptional pond down here, less than five minutes from my doorstep. There is a public launch but to get to the pond you're better off with a plastic or aluminum boat that you don't mind denting up a bit. Canoes, and kayaks are the majority of boats that are used. There's a couple of guys that have aluminum bass boats that manage to negotiate the winding rocky channel to the main pond. I've only seen a jet ski on the pond once in the past five years. Haven't seen a party barge. No water skiers. No wake boarders. Largemouth, smallmouth, pickerel, crappy yellow perch etc. There is either structure, and or cover on every square foot of bottom, and plenty of forage. My canoe with the trolling motor has swivel seats fore and aft with back rests.
  3. Four layers of fiberglass 3/4 ounce mat composition at the stern/bottom area. Starting with a two inch wide strip of mat with torn, not cut edges. Then, a three, four and five torn edge widths of mat/resin composition. The torn edge gives you a feathered edge rather than a series of steps which will have to be sanded. You do a lot less sanding when you tear rather than cut the edges. each layer overlapped the edges of the prior level. We ran the composite a little wider on the stern than on the bottom because that's where most of the damage wa. White gel coat below the waterline. Above the waterline is Interlux Brightside, polyurethane paint.
  4. Say what? Cold weather causes them too. Embrace the cold. No mosquitos, deer flies, gnats, no seeums, ticks, flies, ants, etc. A good time to get chores done around the house. In the summer, I don't have the ambition for home maintenance. I'll be thinking about going fishing. Don't mind mowing the lawn, but stuff that needs doing around the house..................................................not so much.
  5. My neighbor across the street acquired a 13 foot Boston Whaler that needed a lot of love. We have a good relationship. When Marcia and I go to Daytona for the races, then stop to visit our daughter on the way home he keeps our driveway plowed so our daughter can get to work. He won't take anything for it. I agreed to work on his boat. The only thing he paid for was materials and labor for the fellow who works with me. I should have taken photos before we started working on the boat, but you can see the areas we repaired. This boat apparently spent a lot of time on the rocks. It was beat up pretty badly. The gray areas are bondo used over the fiberglass to easily smooth the surface. It takes a lot of work to sand down the texture of the fiberglass mat. The bottom edge of the transom was gnawed away. The vertical brownish smear on the side was a crack in the hull. Now all he has to do is sand and paint the inside and the rail caps. Cost him just under eight hundred dollars.
  6. Have you been watching Wheeler Dealers?
  7. Does it have ladle proof glass?
  8. Yes, mooring anchors. my mistake. Why does the site turn b a d into mistake?
  9. And Toyotas make good moorings.
  10. Hmmmm, I never heard of a bearing being neutered.
  11. I'd suggest that you put a light coat of white lithium grease on the bearing to prevent it from rusting out again. Get a small tube (like a small toothpaste tube) and a soldering brush, and brush it on sparingly. Do it at the end of each year. Should only take a few minutes.
  12. Ahhhh, 73 posts. That explains it. You haven't been around long enough to know that Raider doesn't have a mind.
  13. Why? He can't attach it to his pocket fisherman.
  14. That being the case, hang the motor upside down when you drill out the pop rivet. When done drilling, use a vacuum with a crevice tool and vacuum the end of the tube, just in case any bits of material got lodged in the wiring. Move the wires around as you vacuum.
  15. Go to the Motorguide home page on the web. On that, find servicing dealers, or something similar. Call one of those, get the price for a new bearing, and how much it will cost to have them replace the bearing. Then decide if you want to get the bearing and try to tackle the job yourself, or whether it's more practical to buy a new one.
  16. If properly maintained any of the major brands are good. You'll find some who hate this brand or that brand, but by and large, most truck owners are satisfied with their choice. The trick to buying anything used is to find one that has been serviced regularly by competent mechanics. When looking at a particular vehicle ask to see its service records. If they cannot provide them, move on.
  17. Get one length of wire in red, and the other in black. Depending on the length, you may be able to find a set of jumper cables in six gauge copper cheaper than individual wires. They will be in red and black, and, they will be joined together for most of their length. Keep in mind, many jumper cables are aluminum. Be sure to get them in copper.
  18. What, no little blue pill?
  19. Helicopter lures will be coming on board as a sponsor. Bass Resource will be hosting an elite tournament where fishermen can only fish with a Ron Popeil Pocket Fisherman.
  20. Keep in mind, there are two dimensions regarding the depth of a garage. One is the outside dimension, the other is the internal dimension. Most building dimensions are external. Ideally, you should be able to garage your boat and have at least three feet to spare. That will allow you a foot and a half at each end of the boat. My Z-8 will not fit in my 24 foot deep (external) garage on our lot next door. It would be close if it were two feet deeper, but it would fit. Problem is you need some one to tell you to stop when your motor is about to hit the back wall. Otherwise it's back up, stop, get out and look, then get back in the tow vehicle and back up a few more inches. I had to do that with my Z-7. The garage attached to our house is 34 feet deep. That's where the 8 goes now. For the Z-8 which is just under 21 feet plus motor and jack plate, plus trailer tongue when folded. Since you are in the designing stage, I'd opt for 28 feet deep. Yes, it can fit in less space, but I think you'd be happier with a couple of extra feet, if the budget allows.
  21. In an stunning reversal of policy, Bass Resource announced that religious and political discussions are encouraged.
  22. Well done. May you make many happy memories with her.
  23. Isn't fossil a watch brand?
  24. And, he makes ladles. Sloanzp's real name is Al Bundy and was a star football player in high school. A-jay, I only hated lobsters that crawled into someone else's traps. Glenn's wife Keri makes flapperdoodles to take the harmonics out of high tension wires. 00 mod is going to direct an episode of Moonshiners.
  25. Too many to recall, and have enjoyed all of them. Hoping to meet and fish with many more. While the number is likely more than thirty, I've fished on Pickwick, Kentucky Lake, Guntersville, Pickwick again, Wilson, West Point in GA, Santee Cooper, and many local ponds and lakes. But I've never fished on Bass Resource. Where is it?
