  1. I see a lot of cool crank baits on here and being a artsy fartsy type I would like to see what I can do. Do you guys carve them or are there blanks you can purchase and customize. I am pretty nice with an airbrush and have a couple sitting in my art room collecting dust and I don't think I have turned on my compressor in a year. I would like to play around this winter, can anyone shoot me in the right direction. Thanx.
  2. Thanx, I figured the spool tension had something to do with pitching. I got the whole thing down with pulling the line and the actual pitching, but when it lands, it would start coming right back to me as no line was coming off the spool to allow it to go further down. SO it would end up right back to me. It was hitting the spot I wanted but it sure didn't stay there. I wanna go back out tonight and try again as I did it for a while yesterday and did manage to get a dink and a nice 5lber when the bite was tough. I was using a pegged 1/4 weight, bead with a beaver, is that too light to try learn with?
  3. I have read and watched a lot on this technique but for some reason or another, I am not getting it right. When I do it, I seem to get the bait to go only about 3-5 feet away from me and then it falls back towards me and ends up being 1 ft away from me. Am I supposed to loosen the Spool Tension knob all the way? Loosen the magnetic brake? How do I get it to go where I want it and go to the bottom?
  4. I actually had great luck with the Zoom Shakey head worms and mag shakey worms. I have the spot shakey head jigs. But ya, the junebug color was my go to color as well.
  5. Early spring I learned/used this technique with awesome results. As the season progressed and the weeds came up, I abandoned this technique. Is anyone using it like a jig or creature bait? Does it work well in weeds and along weed lines? Any input would be appreciated guys. Thanks.
  6. There shipping has gotten horrible. If I need something they have, I order it and pay for expedited shipping or just go to my local BPS. Otherwise, Tackle Warehouse is the place I order from. Quick and reliable!
  7. I highly recommend the Extreme series from Bass Pro Shop. I have the Woo Dave, split grip, spinning, MF, 6'8", spinning rod and I absolutely love it.
  8. I have went nuts with plastics the last 3 or 4 years but I have come to a conclusion that can save you from the baitmonkey. 1) Have your techniques down, color means nothing if you don't present it right. 2) You are always trying to match the food supply in the body of water you are fishing. No matter where I go, I always seem to end up with specific colors, hard, soft, topwater or spinnerbaits: 1) Shad or white bottom with a black top and white sides 2) Baby bass or gray bottom with black top and green down the sides 3) Perch or any pattern using predominately green sides with black "tiger stripes" running vertically from top to bottom of the lure. 4) Pumpkin, watermelon or a green or light brown with red or black flakes You can't go wrong with those types of colors. There are millions of colors and combinations. It can get overwhelming quick. Stick with the basics and find what works for you and you develop the infamous "confidence" in. **** luck!
  9. Dmac, that is the rod I am talking about. I just the the one with the cut-away handle and I guess they call it the Woo Dave series. But it is an Extreme. Great rod.
  10. Perfect timing! I just picked these guys brains last week on this exact thing last week. I went with: Shimano Sahara FD Reel 2500/Bass Pro Shops Extreme XPS Woo Daves Rod Spinning ML 6-8" cut-away handle. I got them together for like 149.99 I think. The rod alone would of been 99.99. I got to use them this weekend and I am highly impressed and completely happy with my purchase. Good Luck! http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1247752536/0
  11. Well I took the combo out both Saturday and Sunday and I set up with some nice roboworms. Well, I never stopped catching fish with it, so I never put it down. I think I landed 30 bass on Saturday and about 10 on Sunday in just over an hour. I love the setup and this is my first time trying roboworms and I am impressed. The pole is so sensitive I managed to foul hook a 25" sucker that must of bumped my line and a crappie! Nice and strong, yet sensitive as heck. I love the cut-away handle, it felt so light in my hand. The Shimano Sahara is an extremely smooth reel. I got the 2500 and I never got tired holding it in my hand. I have to say I am extremely happy. Thanks for the great suggestions guys.
  12. Thanks for the help guys. I went last night to BPS and put a lot of the rods you guys suggested in my hand and I ultimately went with the BPS Extreme 6'-8" ML Dave Woo series with the split handle. I really liked the weight and balance of the pole. For the reels, I must of spent and hour spinning handles before I decided to go ahead and go with the Shimano Sahara 2500. It was real smooth and as much as I hate to say this, I like the way it looked better than most of the other reels. I am very happy with the combination of the two, very light and sensitive, exactly what I was looking for. Now lets see if I can catch some fish with it, lol. Oh, and I decided on 4lb Yo-Zuri to line it up. I will give you an update after the weekend when I have a chance to put it to work. Thanks again!
  13. Cool. I usually close the bail with my hand, all the time. Just a habit I guess. How sensitive is suffix? I love yo-zuri in 6lb. strong and super sensitive.
  14. Thanks for everything guys. I am going to probably go with the 2500 as it gives me a little more option when it comes to line and 3 oz is not a huge deal. They actually have the combo with the 2500 or the 1000 with an extreme for the same price.
  15. I see the 1000 is about 6.9 oz and the 2500 is about 9.9 oz. I may go with the 1000 and put 4lb yo zuri on it, or depending on the difference when i put them in my hand, and go with the 2500 with 6lb yo-zuri.
  16. Your not being rude at all. I respect the fact that you guys are helping me out to make a good purchase based on your experience. I have little drop shot experience and this is actually my first year doing it and I like it, but still a noob at it.
  17. Ok, what do you guys think about this: Shimano Sahara FD Reel/Bass Pro Shops Extreme XPS Woo Daves Rod Spinning Combos Reel: 4.7:1 21'' 2/190, 4/100, 6/60 (LB/YDS) Rod: 6'-8" ML 1 piece Line/lure rating: 4 - 10 LB 1/16 - 3/8 OZ
  18. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I am going to head to Bass Pro Shop after work tonight and put my hands on the rods and reels to see how they feel. Muddy, thanks, I am with you on finding people who have used the stuff. Now I know what feels good to me might not feel good to the next guy, but if going in without having some direction, I will spin in circles forever and they hate it at BPS when I wander for hours in there, lmao.
  19. Thanks guys, this is what I need. I actually got an unexpected bonus at work and wifey said go ahead and get what I want as this was unexpected and comes from doing multiple jobs for my company and saving them a lot of money. So I figure I am gonna get a few things I have wanted, but just couldn't justify it with a wife and three kids. I have been really wanting to get a good plastic rod and spinning reel as well as a few more expensive lures that normally I just wouldn't do.
  20. I am finally going to purchase a new spinning outfit next week, specifically for soft plastics and drop-shotting. I have been looking at the St. Croix Mojo with the split handle, but am really at a loss. The reel, well, I have no clue, I want to be able to spool with 6lb yo-zuri and I want the reel to be light in weight. What do you guys suggest for a good rod and reel? What do you guys think of the split handle? I would like to try and stay under $200, is this possible?
  21. That is a great idea of the led lights. Thanks. And the floor is a great idea, how though, do you fasten it? Or does it just set on the floor ribs?
  22. I am going to purchase one of these two motors and need a little input if anyone can help. On small outboards like these, how long/far does the built in gas tank (.3 gallons) run? The 4 has an optional hook-up for a 3.5 gallon tank and the 3.5 does not. The 3.5 actually has about 500 more rpm's. The difference in price is almost $300. Any input is helpful. Thanks in advanced.
  23. I am considering finally breaking down and getting my own little boat to hit all of my small, local waterways. Does anyone have one of these boats? How do you like it? How is it with two people in it as far as stability and comfort (plenty of room to fish)? What size motor do you have on it and how well does it move it? I am thinking about getting a new Merc 4 stroke, 4 or 3.5 hp and I have a 50lb thrust bow mount trolling motor. Any input would be awesome guys. Thanks!
  24. Opening weekend is finally upon us and it looks like a rain soaked Saturday morning. I honestly have never really fished in the rain but we have a small tourney in the a.m. from 6am to 10am. Unless there is lightning I think I will brave it. Is there anything I should take into account or adjust as far as tackle goes? Does rain make things better/worse? Do you change tactics in the rain? Thanks
  25. I have an older (74) Mercury 650 (65hp) and after a long diagnosis process, I think my lack of power comes down to needing the drain and clean the carburetor. Can anyone tell me where the bowl and screw is located? If I am in the boat, looking at the two flappers, where will they be? Do I have to remove the front of that or something to access them? Any help would be appreciated.
