  1. Not everyone fishes the same way or for the same reason and I find it pretty ignorant to make blanket statements like: "however it must be acknowledged that it is lower on the evolutionary scale of bass fishing skill - very low - I'm talking amoeba stage. Now if one is just desperate to catch a smallie because he/she lacks the necessary skill, patience, and knowledge in order to land a bronze back then of course live bait is the way to go. And not to mention live bait does seem to diminish the sense of sportsmanship, and internal pride that one receives after knowing that he/she has deceived the bass into biting a lure that the fisherman presented with skill, color selection, patience, and creativity." Fish what and how you want to, what makes you happy and makes your fishing trips enjoyable. Who cares about anything else.
  2. Drop shot a Roboworm in Aarons Magic.
  3. I put Megastrike on anything and everything soft plastic. If nothing else, I have confidence that it is masking my scent on the lure from handling.
  4. Hammer, I am with you. I have the robo worm straight tail in 4.5" in just about every color as well as the sculpins. I also have 3.5" senco worms that I wacky rig and have good luck with. But all my dropshotting is done with a gamakatsu drop shot hook, size one and I nose hook the roboworms. I have also gotten a few fish on Zoom finesse worms, gulp leeches ,yamamto 5" single tail grubs and bass magic shakey tails.
  5. Are you talking like a buck-tail jig or a normal silicone/rubber jig? I actually have some of the Storm Wildeye paddletails that I thought about trying. Actually, I have some Yum Money minnows I could try. Are you just bouncing them along the bottom? I just have to work something, I hate throwing a worm harness and just doing nothing, lol. Don't ever get them that ways anyways.
  6. My buddies and I have talked about this many times. My brother and I cut our teeth with Zebco 33's with worms and minnows. My dad, to this day, rarely throws any kind of lure other than maybe a Mister twister tail, lol. Now as I got older and smarter (I like to think at least) the excitement of choosing the right lure, the right location and the right presentation is unparalleled.....to me. When I take the kids, if they want a lure, I give them something that they can keep reeling, but mostly I set them up with live bait and bobbers. When I am out with my brother and father, or buddies, I use nothing but artificial, they use a mixture of live and artificial. I like the challenge and satisfaction that comes with "getting it right". But which one is better? Well, that is up to each person, fishing is supposed to be fun and relaxing (lol, for the most part) and whatever gets you there, have at it. On a side note, we have bets all the time when there are three of us on the boat about who will get the most weight for the day, and between me and my artificial only, my one buddy who is all live and my other buddy who will use both.....I usually win, hehehehe).
  7. Walleye season will be opening soon and I usually spend a few weekends trying to catch a few while I wait for Bass season to open. Can anyone direct me to techniques and lures that I should look at? I do a lot of Bass fishing and my tackle box is full of lures for them. Usually my Walleye fishing consists of drifting and throwing Rapala jerkbaits, and throwing 3.5" Yamamoto single grubs.
  8. I buy them and use them with good results. What I usually do is compare the lip length and angle to something I know how far it dives.
  9. I just got into jigs last year and I learned 2 important keys......be patient and pay attention. I throw them out, bounce them slowly back to the boat or shore, sometimes I just slowly reel them back in, staying in constant contact with the bottom. Get to know the feeling of the jig without a fish on it. And stick with it. They definitely produce.
  10. I bought a spinning one in 7' M last year at the end of the season. I bought it to use as a stick bait rod. They tend to run a little heavier that the ratings. For example I would really like to classify mine as more of a medium heavy. The pole is pretty decent and I only use it for stick baits and light cranks. I have only used it a handful of times but it seems to be a decent rod for the price. I will say I don't like the foam, it marks and cuts a little too easy.
  11. I fish the Finger lake, Syracuse area.
  12. I do, that movie made the wrong guy famous. That was the first movie I ever seen Van Damme in. Holy crap, I can't believe I watched that.
  13. I used the 6lb on my dropshot rod last year. It is not a bad line, but I found after a couple of fishing trips that I would have to peel 10-30 feet of the line off and get rid of it as it would stretch out and even make a different sound going through the guides. Then I would tie my leader back on and be okay for a while again. I put 12lb on my baitcaster and hated it so that only lasted about 1 fishing trip. It is used for backing material only now.
  14. I use 65lb (12lb diameter) suffix for my pitching and flipping and frogs. I personally like it better than the fireline. Fireline feels like thick dental floss to me, real waxy.
  15. I am in Cortland. But I decided to just take it off myself. Sat down and drew it up to remember where everything went and then removed the carburetor. Maybe someone can help me with this: Problem: Motor starts and runs fine at idle and lower speed. Once you put the throttle down, it doesn't increase speed and does not trim out. Obvious lack of power. Took carburetor apart. Little bit of crap in the bottom carburetor bowl, very little, everything looks in pretty good shape. Remove top carburetor and take the top off the the bowl.....no gasket! (Side bowl carburetor btw.) If what I read is correct, that bowl should be vacuum sealed in order to operate correctly. Would the lack of gasket be the lack of power issue I am experiencing? If it is not operating correctly, would some gas get into the carburetor (enough to open the drain screw and some gas come out) but not have pressure, thus not actually supplying the power needed? Would that be why I see a little bit of gas in the water when the boat is in water?
  16. You want great affordable swimbaits..... I took one out yesterday to play with as we are just icing out. Man, the H2O Xpress bluegill in 3.5 has just awesome movement. And it is $10! I also like the Sebile and the Strike King sexy swimmer.
  17. Ya, I am more so looking for someone to rebuild it probably. I am pretty inclined, just never dealt with motors much. I am going to remove the carburetor and try cleaning it and go from there.
  18. I have a 650 mercury, I think it is a 1975 and I need to have the carburetor cleaned and or rebuilt (lack of power issues). Can anyone help? I am in the upstate NY area and was hoping someone knew someone or something that would help me out before we get to far into the season.
  19. In all of my weights I try to carry enough but not too much. 1/4, 3/8, 3/4 and I have 1 oz true tungsten.
  20. Personally I would get the Carbonlite/Sahara combo. You will have money left over for other goodies as well.
  21. I cut my teeth on a zebco 33 and moved to a spinning reel not too long after. I used spinning exclusively for probably 25 years and the last year or two I realized that certain techniques really require a casting setup to be fished correctly. For a tourney, fish what is comfortable, trying to learn something new when fishing a tourney is not the greatest strategy.
  22. I love my sahara, I actually use the 2500 for drop shotting. I will look at the compre MH, I like the ratings on it. What lucky crafts do you recommend. Probably need something in say 5-8ft range and then maybe something in 10' suspending? Do you like the little john's better than the dt series? I will definitely get tru tungsten weights, 3/4 oz and 1 oz and Mega strike is the way I was thinking as well.
  23. I have seen a few of these threads lately and thought it was a great idea. Lets see what you guys think: $250-$300 to spend Pretty much have every plastic I could ever want at this point. I have a lot of this and that, and I have a few specific needs I need to fill. 1. Punching weights 2. Punch skirt 3. Attractant 4. Spinning set up for misc. techniques (have 2 already, ml and a m) 5. Mid and deep diving billed cranks 6. Suspending jerkbait Don't need a lot of the items, maybe just a couple of this and that. What do you think guys?
  24. I carry several colors with me, but usually I am rigging up: Aarons magic Hologram Shad Prizm Perch Baby Bluegill
  25. Roadwarrior I am glad you posted, I thought you used the yo-zuri and knew something about it. I have been using the yo zuri as a leader, do you seen a big difference of using mono and yo zuri as a leader as opposed to using it on your whole spool? What do you think about the 15lb yo zuri soft? Is it too stiff or ineffective flipping with? Is 12lb strong enough to flip 1oz baits with all the slop?
