  1. My brother is looking for something called a "weed stopper". He described it as a bead that deflected or kept the weeds from fouling the lure. It is put on the line above whatever spinner/lure being used. Does anyone know what the name of these are, and if place like BPS and Tackle Warehouse carry them? Thanks in advance
  2. I love mine. I have two. 7' H with a Carbonlite reel and 50lb Suffix on it. Haven't used it much yet. I got it for punching and throwing frogs. I have a 6'6" mh spinning set up with a Sahara and 20lb suffix, that I use every day and I love it. I am constantly checking my guides and I have not noticed any problems with the braid
  3. I HATE JET SKI'S! We have had that happen and usually a "hey, we are fishing here" works. As long as I can't cast and hit your boat then I am usually ok. Anything closer, well, I have been known to speak my mind. That usually solves the problem. But I like the naked idea. The one that bothers me is people launching and putting their boats on trailers. Give people enough room and courtesy. It isn't rocket science.
  4. I love it for the fact it masks any scents that may have been on my hands when I handle soft baits.
  5. Would a minor earthquake affect how the fish bite or whether they bite at all?
  6. I use Suffix for braid, and Yozuri hybrid for leaders. I hate fluoro - too stiff in general for me.
  7. Being a live bait fisherman the majority of my life, I had the worst time understanding what a hit was when throwing jigs, creature baits, tx rigged worms etc.. I went to all artificial about 4 years ago I got 2 pieces of advice, and it made me understand....Know what your lure feels like without a fish on it, and when in doubt, set the hook, hook sets are free. Hope that may shed some light, good luck!
  8. Main forage on this lake seems to be crayfish. They are always spitting them up when we catch the smallies. There are trout and perch as well.
  9. Thanks guys. The waterway I am fishing this weekend is extremely clear and I know drop shotting and tubes will be my go to (maybe a little Keitech action as well) but I wanted to throw top water for a bit early on. Couldn't decided between a spook, popper or Rage Shad.
  10. Welcome, this place is great. I am your direction, I am in the Cortland area so I fish the finger lakes and Oneida as well as the St. Lawrence.
  11. In a lake setting, what has been your most productive top water lure for smallmouth?
  12. I am in Cortland and would like to go check out the Susquehanna river. Any suggestions where I can fish it from shore? Thanks in advance.
  13. If I am not mistaken, the clacknrap is a lipless crankbait and the xrap is a suspending jerkbait. Completely different. The xrap is my favorite suspending jerkbait. I usually always have one tied on one of my setups each outing.
  14. I also like, believe it or not, the H2O Express sunfish swimbaits are pretty good. Only used them a couple of times so I am not sure about how durable they are, but they move and look real nice in the water.
  15. I have a couple I have been using for a bit now. I have a 7' H X-Fast tip with a carbonlite reel casting setup and I have a 6'6" MH Fast tip with a sahara 2500 spinning setup. I love them. Definitely my favorite setups to grab. They have held up well for me. I personally don't like the Mojo at all, way to stiff and heavy. The vendetta's are decent, but the tip weight turns me off.
  16. KFC chicken, sunflower seeds, beef jerky and water.
  17. I never heard anything on Cayuga, and I just checked the DEC report and there is nothing. But there was a fish kill on Skaneateles last week or so and it was attributed to Furunculosis bacterium and not VHS. From my understanding, it is bacteria that can affect the fish when it stressed (example - spawning time). I would give the DEC a ring and let them know and they will run out and test it. Funny it is two finger lakes though.
  18. Water your lawn in the evening or if it has rained during the day just go out after dark with a flashlight and a bucket. Been doing that since we were kids. A little hard on the back, but light on the wallet.
  19. I use nothing but the Gamakatsu Drop shot hooks in 1/0 for everything and I really like them. No gut hooking and nice hooksets each time.
  20. Actually I am not a fan of Fireline. Feels too much like dental floss or something. I prefer to use the Suffix braid. I use the 50lb on my punching and frog setup and I use 6lb on my dropshot setup. But that is just me. And if the water is real clear, which a couple of lakes I fish are, I always use a leader. If nothing else I feel more comfortable that the fish aren't hitting cause of me and not the fact that they can see the line. ;D
  21. I am going to go with either the 6-6 m with fast tip or the 6-8 with xfast tip. Haven't 100% decided yet.
  22. Ok, I decided, or the monkey decided, I need another light plastic rig. So I am picking up a 6'6" carbonlite and a shimano sahara spinning setup. Would you go with a 6lb equivilant braid with a leader/no leader or with flourocarbon/hybrid?
  23. Honestly, I would probably fish with just about any of you guys, but if I had to choose one I would say RW. I have taken several of his recommendations and they paid off big time.
  24. Ok, with walleye opening tomorrow, I think I am set. My arsenal for the weekend will look like this: Dropshot - Roboworms, Gulp Leeches, 3.5" Sencos Darter head Jigs - GYCB 4" Single tail and double tail grubs, keitech swing 4" Storm wildeye paddletails Yum Money minnows 3.5" Sebile soft Rapala Xraps LC Staysee 90 Various billed crankbaits I hope this covers it.
