  1. I was experimenting on downloading multiple maps on the card last night and it can be done. Each time I download a map I will get about 6 files that includes; 3 map files, an *.at file, a permit file, and the contour file. I found out I would have to load all of these for each area. For the files with similar names, I would have the PC number them 1,2,3 and so on. On my Elite 7 HDI, only the downloaded maps would display on my chart; the base map is gone. This is kinda annoying since I can't keep the card in the unit and go speeding off to a different body of water.
  2. My biggest producer is a 1/4 oz BPS Lazer Eye in white/chartreuse.
  3. +1 I've got it paired with and a Shimano Syncopate and it looks and feels great!!!
  4. Summer, nothing. Spring & Fall, an old pair of loosely tied tennis shoes, or these if its raining.
  5. That sounds pretty pricey to store a boat. What is a tilt trailer??? I Googled it and it looks like something for cars.
  6. No can do. The basement stairs are right behind the garage.
  7. I live in community controlled by a Home Owners Assoc. They don't allow storage of boats out in the open. I have a short 2 car garage that is 18 ft in length. Considering everything, the motor, boat, and trailer tongue, what is the maximum size jon boat am I looking for? P.S. - This must go straight in. Cannot have it go in diagonal or my wife will hang my nuts out.
  8. A cheap alternative: My buddy drills a hole down the middle of a copper jacketed bullet and uses that as a "bullet weight". He let me try one and it was a lot more sensitive than lead. I'm not sure if it is just as sensitive than tungsten since I've never tried one.
  9. I have the Berkley. Works awesome! I hook mine under the gill plate, making sure there are no gills under the hook. No problems so far.
  10. I use Spike-it in a bottle. It seems like years ago, before JJ's came along, this was the Stuff. Since then, the formula has changed and smells more like acetone than garlic, etc. I notice that whenever I use this, a lot of my hooksets are deeper in the mouth.
  11. Sounds like you need a treble with an extra short shank. I'd recommend the Mustad KVD hooks. They probably have the shortest shank available. These are also the Triple Grip design and are stickier than any other treble I've tried. They're expensive, but well worth it! I've written about my search for the perfect treble in my blog.
  12. I'm thinking about getting a Thermacell for nite fishing. Anyone use this, and does it work good? Thermacell
  13. The C-rig gets it action from the weight getting caught and pulled free along the bottom. The longer and the lighter the leader you have the more action you will have. I like using lizards, curly tail worms, and flukes with this setup. I will fish the C-rig when reaction baits don't work and when there is texture on the bottom to "catch" the weight, such as rocky bottoms, sparse grass, and humps. Use no less than 1/2 oz egg sinker.
  14. So what is the story with the Heddon Chugger Jr. and Baby Lucky 13? They look similar. What's the difference? I noticed the Chugger Jr. is not readily available anymore. Is the L13 its successor?
  15. I haven't caught anything with this lure, but I wrote a blog on how to make it look more like the Spro Bronzeye popper... and I know that the Spro catches bass! I have the black color and I'd imagine it would be very effective at night. Hula modification I also really like the blurp sound the Hula makes. I've thrown the Hula into some heavy floating grass and was amazed the trebles weren't loaded with salad when I got it back to the boat.
  16. The wacky rig tool comes with a screw on one end of it to hold the O-rings on. I just tried to remove the screw and it seems to be frozen in place. I squashed the tubing part of the tool with a pair of pliers... oops . Am I supposed to load the o-rings on by slipping them over the head of the screw one at a time? Or does the screw actually come off?
  17. Talk with your boater before the tnx to find out what their plan will be. Ask them what they think they will be throwing. If you don't have it, then run out and buy it. If they don't have a plan, bring your confidence baits and everything else.
  18. +1 I bought Mend-it last year and it works great! People keep telling me that a lighter would do the same thing, but would it be as easy and as fast? I've had repaired baits stored over the winter and they're still as soft and pliable when first repaired.
  19. I tried my hand a silencing a crankbait and it seems to have worked. If anyone is interested on how to silence a crankbait, I wrote a blog on it. Enjoy! Silence of the Cranks
  20. Yep! Happened to me too. Last year we were tearing them up that one friday before the tnx, then come back the next day they were GONE!
  21. Frog - green pumpkin BPS / black Ribbit Spinnerbait - wht & chart Rebel Craw Crankbait - w/ KVD hooks
  22. Eat garlic! That'll 'lic up yer blood and give you a case of the skunk farts. Rub some Megastrike Garlic on your skin too. jk. Other than that I use Off.
  23. throw some targets out on the lawn and try to hit them with your casting plug.
  24. I agree that if the hooks are sharp either rod should be sufficient, however the whippy rod probably would not bury the barb as deep. In theory, a stiff rod would work on a dulled regular hook, but I think that a dull treble hook would not work with anything. What I found is treble hooks tend to rotate away from any pressure put on the point. If the point is not sharp enough to catch the surface, then it will merely slip and slide. What I meant by good hooks are hooks that are tempered to hold a sharp point, are resistant to bending, and/or have a geometric advantage, i.e. Extra wide Gap/triple grip, Sure Set, etc. With these hooks, I think a stiffer rod would be better to ensure a good hook set. I've noticed that I was boating fish on a brand new crankbait. After catching about 4 or 5, I started to lose every fish that hit the crankbait. I think the stock hooks were so cheap that the points dulled after a couple fish. I'd put these in a "single use" category.
