  1. Thanks Wayne. I thought that I heard there were some in the South Anna. I was thinking of parking at the ramp off of 33 and wading it when the weather warms up.
  2. Went out to a pond yesterday after work for about 45 minutes just to get out. I caught one small bass on a shad spoon and UL rod/real, but that was the only hit I had. I still enjoyed it though. Does anybody know where I could find chain pickerel in the Richmond area? I've never caught one before and would love to try.
  3. you talking about belle isle? That's the only one I can think of. vatech should check out Pony Pasture too if the river level is safe. Not sure what it is right now.
  4. I like Ed Allen's. I think it's around $35 for a boat with 6hp motor, and you can rent trolling motors too. Not sure how much they are. The people there are really nice. If you go a little later in the day, the bass will slay topwater lures.
  5. Last time I rented it was either $34 or $36 without a trolling motor.
  6. There are a few ponds up the road from Rooty, which has a lot of crap in it right now. Every cast you come out with weeds and algae. That was about a month ago...maybe it has cleared up by now.
  7. Eels, huh? Maybe I'll try throwing some eel lures just downstream of the fall line to see if I can entice any stripers. Anyone done that before? Earlier this year, DGIF said shad cam was out of commission for this year. Glad they brought it online!
  8. I have, and it's not been good. There's so much grass/algae in that lake it's annoying. I'm going to start trying the other ones in the area.
  9. Went out today again and didn't catch a thing. The game warden said everyone was having a slow day. I can't catch a break!
  10. I might head to Rooty tomorrow evening to try my luck. Good luck Sam!
  11. Really? How do you fish your shad dart?
  12. How far up from the dart (assuming that's what you're using)?
  13. I live in Richmond. Took a many year hiatus from freshwater fishing, and just started back up again last year. I mostly try to hit some of the ponds and the upper James for smallies. I'm not very good at any of it yet. This year I plan to try the lower James for some cats.
  14. You can try, but like I said, yesterday the water quality was awful, the current was fast, and there was a ton of debris. Worth a try if you have nothing else to do, but watch out for lightning. Severe thunderstorms and high winds are predicted for today. Might be okay by the time you get there though. Just watch Doppler carefully for the next hour or two and watch the air pressure.
  15. I went out today for two hours and didn't get squat. The water was very murky, moving fast, and there was a LOT of debris in the water. If you go south on 14th St. and cross the Mayo bridge (both spans), you can park on the right. Walk back toward the river, go down the path, and find yourself a spot. You'll probably see people down there. Good luck, and let us know how you do.
  16. I went today for about an hour or so. Didn't hook up with any, and only saw two people catch one. The wind was annoying. I'll probably try for a bit tomorrow afternoon.
  17. Anybody been yet this year? I went a couple of weeks ago an caught a small LMB, and then on Sunday all I caught was a small crappie. It was really windy, making casts really annoying. I caught both fish on a small chartreuse beetle spin.
  18. I had to go ultra light for smaller LM, crappie, and bluegill. Only on decent LM on a dark spinnerbait. Beautiful day though.
  19. I was thinking of heading out to Ed Allen's on Chickahominy Lake tomorrow, but not sure if it's worth it. Thoughts? I have no idea what to expect after all this rain.
  20. Would it be unproductive to head out there on Sunday after the storm?
  21. I use the Keen Hood River Boots (not the shoes) and love them.
  22. I just went there last Friday afternoon for the first time. It's beautiful. I walked upstream about 100 yards and then waded in. I talked to a guy who had just finished catfishing and caught quite a large one. I didn't do so well with the smallies, but I saw plenty of fish. Had a large gar chase my lure, saw a likely 25 lb catfish by my feet (scared the hell out of me at first), saw a few eels, plenty of smaller flatheads, and of course, some smallies. Even though I didn't do well, I had a great day. Plan to head out there with some different lures next weekend if I'm in town.
  23. Does anybody fish the other lakes in the area? Rooty is the only one I've fished. I love it there.
