  1. Way back in the 70's. Although they have been 2 systems connected to moose head even longer
  2. Moosehead has an unlimited bag limit for smallmouths. The bass haters will be out in full force. There was a similar "event" on another lake last summer and quite a few nice fish were killed. The bass will be there long after the haters are gone
  3. Get out after em as soon as the ice goes out, Its some of the best fishing of the year. Jerkbaits and lipless cranks work really well. Smallies also love to go on a feeding frenzy when the wind is blowing, dont be afraid to fish the windy shore or structure using spinnerbaits
  4. I fish a lake here in Maine that is part of the Penobscot river drainage and the Marine resource department is starting to stock sea run alewife into the lake this year. The dept completed stocking of around 30,000 adult alewife last week. I had been asking the bio in charge of the work if the smallmouth in the lake would feed on the adult alewife. I kind of thought that the 8-14 inch fish would be large for them. He said that the crew loading the alewife from the trap said that 3-4 lb smallmouth would be able to eat them. Today was the first time I have been out since the stocking was completed. The alewife were evident in spawning areas and the bass were going nuts eating them! I got these pics between rain. You can kind of see the tail in the mouth pic and all that bulging in the gut is rest of the alewife all folded up inside the smallie.
  5. Nice fish. Went out last saturday and caught 60 green ones. Tried sunday for smallies and the cold front didnt help. Did catch a couple despite the 39 degree water. A couple of warm days will get them biting again. Too bad about your club losing the events on the flowage, lots of bs involved with that.
  6. Have caught them off of points, around the islands, a couple of the flats that have some humps in them, the coves at the N end, those reeds right off the launch, inside points along the West shore etc etc. A lot of fish in that lake! It does fish better earlier in the season than it will right now, but you will still probably need 16-18 lbs to win.
  7. Nice fish. 3 mile can be crowded with a lot of boats on it. Did you guys fish the whole lake? There are more places to get em than just the S End. Our club used to go there every year and it was always a fun place to fish.
  8. Nice fish. Was out this weekend and also hit a good spinnerbait bite with similar results to yours. Strong wind is always fun to fish in.
  9. Huge alewife runs this year. Will make for some fat fish later on. Way to make use of that new structure.
  10. I saw a pic of that fish and it was a real hog. A guy at the Green tournament had it, but it is also online now. Toddy has some giants in it due to the alewife. I tried to put up a link to the pic, but thats not working. Go to waldo county bass addicts and get to the toddy pics.
  11. No live bait for bass in maine until after june 30th
  12. Those things are tanks. Nice fish!
  13. Nice fish. Seeing lots of big bass so far this spring. We weighed 2 close to 7 lbs on sunday at a tournament.
  14. Went to a local lake this morning in hopes of catching some smallies. Havnt fished this lake in a couple of years. Wont make that mistake again. Caught 44 and most were 3lbs or better. They were stacked up on a flat in 48 degree water and really on the bite. Most were caught on crankbaits or spinnerbaits. A few pics I managed in the wind. Camera died so I had to resort to my phone.
  15. Nice fish. Great smallies. Would have been out also, but still waiting for trolling motor parts.
  16. Its not gonna be like last year. Had already fished 3 different lakes by this time last year. At least 2 more weeks before anything will be ready in this area.
  17. Really nice fish. You catch a lot on those cranks.
  18. Really nice fish. How big were the alewifes they were spitting up? Bass definitely like eating them and they do get nice and big from them.
  19. Nice fish. The sun will shine this weekend to get you going again.
  20. Nice fish. They are definitely eating well.
  21. Went out yesterday evening for a couple of hours with my stepson and we caught 16 between us. Lots of other follows and lost ones also. A few pics that we took. Never mind the date and time-operator error.
  22. Nice fish-must be secret spot with the background blocking
  23. Lol bet I know where you were fishing. Was on it Sunday. My stepson dosnt want to go back, ha ha. Not a fun lake to fish for numbers but it has some real big ones in it. We have weighed some 7s and 8s in it. Nice fish and it should fish really good in a couple of weeks.
  24. Went for a quick trip this afternoon with my stepson. Caught 11 largemouths in a couple of hours. These two were the biggest. The second one is 5.5 lbs.
