  1. Congrats on your first jig fish, as far as trailers I always use a craw trailer, unless swimming it, then I sometimes use grubs, broken worms, etc. Jigs are one of my favorite ways to fish, especially for smallies. I use paca craw trailers almost exclusively, and typically the jig will produce bigger fish on average than any other lure in my box.
  2. Hybrid is a true copolymer as far as being different molecularly different components. However and this is important, NO OTHER COPOLYMER LINE, IS A TRUE COPOLYMER, it is just different monofilaments mixed together. Hybrid is the same as many other manufacturers flouro, there are a few manufacturers that just coat mono in flouro and call it floro. It is vitally important for us as consumers to really investigate their options as there are no industry standards for fishing line.
  3. nice looking fish
  4. Just messin with ya ;D
  5. congrats nice bass
  6. 20" equals 4-5 pounds, the bass in my avatar was 20" and 5lbs.
  7. one of my standards. love lizards and smallies
  8. Dude where did you learn math?? 200/1200=.1666667 The fish looks to be about 5lbs. Nice fish congrats.
  9. the avatar pic is probably the best example of why you can't trust a picture to tell you how much a fish weighs. 5lbs, but most who see the pic guess a lot more. BTW my scale is a spring, divided between the pounds by five slots, the "needle" was squarely between the fifth mark and the 9, so 8.9 or 8lbs 14.4 ounces. sorry for the confusion so used to recording in tenths for my log. Better avatar pic
  10. I really want to get a couple of mounts done. I release all of the bass I catch and would love to have a couple of the fish I've caught replicated. So who has recommendations. Thanks
  11. I am still so stoked about it, I hooked and landed a 23.5 inch largemouth, girth was roughly 17, never good at doing that. But what I can do is read a scale, 8.9 lbs. Come on isn't that close enough to nine to count? I did take a pic with my cell phone but have no idea how to load it. Replica mount here I come. I released her quickly.
  12. As usual you may have to portage a rapid, just get out and walk the boat through, no carrying.
  13. Jigs, senkos catch fish, but they are limited. IE can't bust through mats of vegetation. If the fish are wanting a craw and senko will not work, but you can swim a jig to make it look like bait fish. I like the senko, used to call them stinkos, but jigs are more versatile IMO.
  14. right now she is in good shape, some rain in forecast, which is good will keep the level up. Should be no problem
  15. It is called a safety check. The warden stops and checks your license etc, and bam BUI doesnt matter if you are using oars.
  16. Thanks fellas, I'm checking into the draft of a basstracker. I have a few spots that I would actually put my glass boat into, of well thanks.
  17. I'm not a fan of Pinnacle reels, or any reel with a graphite frame, drives me nuts. The reels I've had with graphite frames tweak under load to the point that at times the gears wouldn't even engage, when that costs you a big bass, you will feel the same. Also do not expect any type of manual or take down instructions for cleaning or lubricating, I never did figure out how to take the Platinum apart. Nothing but aluminum frames, sideplates and brass gears for me.
  18. Everything I've ever ordered from is delivered within the week! I'm really suprised. I've place four or five orders with them this year alone, all delivered within a week.
  19. How big is your pond, how deep, will you supplemental feed, good algea production, any cover, etc. All of these variables need to be taken into consideration. Also consider that the channel cat is one of the most efficient predators you can put into a pond. A friend of mine had his pond decimated by channel cats. The larger bass starved, the crappie, and bluegills were eaten. A decent size channel will eat an 8" bass easily. Then again I can go to his pond and catch 30lb cats, nothing else but a lot of cats. So I tell everyone to think carefully before adding catfish to their pond.
  20. I am looking at upgrading my current set up. I love to smallie fish and live on the Greenbrier River, not the deepest river in the world. I am hoping I can find a boat that I can multi-purpose with, in other words lake and river fish. Aluminum hull is a must, and shallow draft a must, think like 6" if needed, for the ripples, they are not rapids until they are class II or above. So who makes the shallowest aluminum hulled boat?
  21. I'm looking for the shallowest draft possible. Looking aluminum as I don't want to worry about a rock in the river. All I have is ideas and research to do as of now. I currently have an old hydrasport fiberglass and she has quite a bit of draft especially on the stern.
  22. My PB was 19.5 inches scale registered 4lbs but the picture I have isn't that great. I held the fish against a boat oar and it suffered massive camera shrinkage. The paddle on the oar is 24" long and 10" wide.
  23. I am a Coast Guard veteran, and I've cleaned up my share of boating fatalities, 90% had one thing in common, alcohol. Most people think nothing of a few beers and running their boat. I will tell you however that if you get caught, the boat is impounded, your license revoked, (typically three years), and you may or may not get your boat back, depends on the state, the judge and whether or not it was the Coast Guard that caught you. Most states are harder on boating while under the influence or intoxicated than they are on automobile offenses. Kinda hard to influence the judge that you absolutely need to have your fishing license and boat back. With all of that said, shore fishing with bait, I may have a couple, in the boat not a chance.
  24. I really don't have a problem with it at all. One local lake (Tuchahoe) is a small impoundment, 40 acres, close to town and gets absolutely hammered. There are some true bruisers in the lake, I believe the next state record for WV will come out of that lake. Secret spots sure, but on a pond that size it doesn't take long for everyone to find it anyway. The local neighborhood pond has recieved a lot of attention this year, I'll tell people exactly how to fish the pond, and where. They catch very little, I'll do just fine. I think you can tell most people exactly where the fish are and how to catch them, and they won't hurt your secret spot at all. How many times have you been in a boat with someone fishing the exactly same lure, in what you thought was the same way only to have them clean your clock or vice versa. More to fishing than the lure, the place or the technique has more to do with the person holding the rod. I went fishing with a fella the other day who was going to show me his spots on a particular lake. I had been to this lake twice before alone and he has fished it practically his whole life. Out of all the places he took me, only one was new to me. No such thing as a secret spot.
