  1. I thought the meanmouth was a smallie hybrid, not a lm???
  2. Solved my IPT problem, the C3 holds 170yds of 10lb test, ripped off 50yds, left 120 yds on the reel and the IPT like this is 21.
  3. The big three??? Shimano, Daiwa and Quantum. Hmm seems like you forgot the biggest of the big three Abu Garcia!!! Abu is definitely a step up from.....
  4. Awesome, they looked like they were having a great time.
  5. I've seen a couple of Old Black Max round reels on Ebay lately, been thinking they would be good cranking reels. What do you think?
  6. Anyone have any experience with this reel? I have looked everywhere to find the IPT of the reel and have come up empty. I'm looking for a round reel for cranking, and need one with 21 IPT or less, I have a Abu 4600C3 for some cranking, but really want a lower IPT for deeper and also floating wake baits. Any info would be appreciated.
  7. Great fish, can't wait for the fall sseeason here
  8. Man when I was in the Coast Guard we called the motto Simply Forgotus, lol. Heavy Weather Coxn and you?
  9. Welcome, there just aren't enough hillbillies here.
  10. Welcome Aboard.
  11. Very cool, congrats
  12. When I bird hunted I used to get burned out. It got to the point that it was too much like work. Off season conditioning of the dogs, off season training, constantly looking for replacement birds to use in training, catching pigeons, loosing pigeons to racoons, etc. Cleaning kennels, walking five miles between birds, etc. Don't get me wrong there is nothing that compares to watching a young dog get its first wiff of bird scent and lock up on point. Every muscle quivering, their nose in overdrive trying to suck up all of the scent, and sometimes confusion in their eyes as to why they are standing like a statue, it is not the natural prey drive response, it was a lot fun too. I traveled a lot to hunt birds in different states, met a lot of nice people, in the end health issues drove me away. Now I fish, I'm not a good fisherman, but seem to get lucky everyonce and a while. I enjoy the water, the scenery, taking people out fishing, watching my son catch his first bass, etc. I don't let it become work, although I do at times obsess about it and then I'll take a break, so I can keep everything in perspective. Good fishing
  13. Nice smallie, water still a little warm here for the fall bite. But I am anxiously awaiting its arrival.
  14. I use a 6.2:1 that has 25 inches per turn take up, seems just right to me. I have used all the way down to a 4.7:1, just reel a little faster. YOu have asked about keeping the bait ontop of the water, I fish a lot of buzz baits and can tell you from experience that a double propped buzz bait can be fished very slowly and stay on top. I have not found anther buzzbait that can be fished as slow as a double prop, I bought a Cavitron to see if I could go as slow with it, no dice. Anyway my point is that it isn't the reel that keeps the buzzbait on top it is the design and blades of the bait, the bigger the blade the easier it is to keep on top, the more blade surface against the water provides more lift. good luck
  15. I finally got around to taking a few pics, here is one of the lot
  16. Thinking they are plastic as the letters on the back are raised. Dont see how a manufacturing process would result in raised letters on wooden baits.
  17. I found these baits the other day cleaning out a woodshed. The were laying on a shelf and covered in what appeared to be chicken guano. Got them home and cleaned them up and recieved a nice suprise. The Wee-Dee is 100% on the body but the hooks are rusty, the Pikie is 80% on the body paint, but hooks are like new. The Pikie is wood and is stamped on the bill 9-7-20, am wondering if that is the manufacture date, if anyone knows please inform. I am very ignorant about old lures, both of these are wood, and I think the Wee-Dee is very collectable. Any information would be appreciated
  18. There is an old Indian outboard 5 hp I think for sale in the local paper, pretty cheap. I'm not a collector or anything, but thought about picking it up. Are these things collectable?
  19. I know I should have heard this, but the starter's bendix didn't disengage. I was furious that my boat was bogging down and not running right, so I shut it off to and pulled the cowl, metal shavings were everywhere, and the bendix (gear on top) of the starter was nubs, could not re-engage flywheel to turn boat over. Has any one had this happen? My boat wouldn't power up or anything and barely ran, I thought I had a power pack going bad. I have replaced the bendix with one I had here and the boat is running fine now. What would cause the bendix to get stuck like that?
  20. Cleaning out my Granddaddy's garage the other day, and I find a few older reels. By older reels I mean they look like they may be from the thirties some still have what looks like silk line, Pfleugers, and a box of wooden cranks. Anyway I confirmed that these reels were not my Granddaddy's, nor the lures, he didn't fish. He and Grandma just sorta of picked them up sometime, knowing my grandparents probably at a flea market or yard sale. Anyway I thought I would sell it and give her the money. Is there any websites that I could visit to see if any of this tackle is valuable?

    C-Rig

hopefully you will get some responses as I have never caught a fish on a c-rig. I know it is my fault as I lack the confidence to stick with it. I may have to do what I did with crankbaits last year. Leave everything but c-rigs at home.
  22. I am curious as to which engine would be longer lasting more durable engine. Different manufacturers offer an unlimited list of engines to choose from others offer only one manufacturer. As I start my search for a new boat, or new to me boat, I am more concerned with the engine than the hull. So which engine manufacturer makes the most durable, reliable engine?
