  1. There is one here on bassresource, I think Glenn did the video, either look at the pinned articles at top of page or follow link
  2. In many states throwing a dead fish back into the water is a violation of game laws. Wanton waste of a game specie or something like that. The reasoning goes that the fish would have counted against your creel limit if you were keeping them, you'll see ppl throwing back small fish that are dead so they won't count against their creel. Check your state regs on that or throw it in the nest and hope nobody sees. The old argument on the spawning issue there are studies that show that fishing during the spawn including keeping fish off of the beds results in a neutral impact on the fish. In other words fishing doesn't add to the mortality or does releasing them lower mortality, if there was a negative impact on the fishery by fishing during the spawn there would be laws against it. Apparently there is some evidence to show that in the northern states there is some type of negative impact, or the fisheries ppl are just keeping old laws on the books to keep the animal right wackos off their backs
  3. I keep some inline spinners, old rapala minnow broke backs, etc in the boat for the tough days, seems many times the old standby's really catch fish when nothing else will. I think the fish are conditioned to lures, and many times the newest craze is thrown by every angler until the fish just start ignoring them.
  4. spent an hour and half talking with a gentleman in Walmart a couple of weeks ago, he looked about 60 turned out he was 85 a WWII Vet South Pacific campaign and was still infected with the bassin bug. Gave him my number and told him anytime he wanted to go I would be more than glad to take him. It was a very fast hour and half.
  5. I never turn my live well on, don't worry about numbers or weight, but I don't tourney fish either, just out there to clear my mind and have a good time.
  6. I have some in what is called the tassle tail, move alot of water and do a good job of catching fish, just a different profile from anything else I've seen.
  7. great writing skills, congrats on a great catch.
  8. As far as yo-zuri goes I use it on all but two rods. One has braid the other mono, but the other 7 have yo-zuri hybrid, I've never lost a fish due to line issues. On spinning I use the 6lb regular hybrid no problems, in fact my daughter's and son's rod have it, and they aren't nesting their spinning reels. Baitcasters all get 12lb hybrid, I've pulled in four pounders and what felt like 20lbs of salad, I've kept fish from running into the cattails, thought for sure my PB was going to get off the line when she made it to the edge, I pushed the drag all the way and horsed her out, the buzzbait was mangled beyond repair, the line was fine. I know that if I do not moisten the line when tightening the knot it will weaken, it has floro in it. Other than that never a problem. One other thing is since it is a crystal based line like all floro is, if you get a serious backlash and kink the line, replace it. Kink any floro or floro-copolymer line and it is very stressed at the kink, gotta replace it or it will break. Its for this reason I recommend that noobs use mono until their thumb is educated in the ways of the baitcaster, mono doesn't kink as bad during a serious overrun. Tight lines and good luck.
  9. Found that out the hard way, lol. It has a sticker that is embossed YK S I'm guessing it's a date of manufacture code. Thanks for all the replies, gonna move the reel to a rod I use more, I've hardly used it at all, but it's smooth and casts well drag is smooth like it.
  10. Thanks, I'm gonna look at the reel foot for a serial number using that I can find the manufacturing date correct?
  11. When I have someone in the back I take into consideration their fishing as much as mine. I don't fish tournaments and we both are out there for the enjoyment of the sport. I'll actually alternate laydowns or fish one side of the cover (left or right) and they can fish the other side, however they want to do it. I have also spent a lot of time in the back one trick that will help you is learning how to cast backhanded. Glenn show how to cast this way on a video entitled Advanced Spinnerbait tactics, lets you get behind cover that they guy in the front can't. Additionally I have also caught fish out of cover that the guy in the front just plain missed, don't assume for a second just because the guy on the bow fished a spot that he caught the fish. I always make sure I'm fishing a different color or profile whatever. Sitting in the back you don't have to worry about navigation or anything, and can concentrate of the fish. Tight lines
  12. I don't have a new one, I have the old black one and like it. Hopefully someone can provide you the answer.
  13. stopped by the pond and tried the tactics recommended caught a bass!!!! Thanks
  14. your JM signature is a good choice for a first timer, you have both mag and centrifrugal braking. The mag brakes at the beginning and end of cast the centrifrugal brakes are at the peak, keep all six brakes on, and set the mag brake where you are comfortable. The tension knob is the best brake you have, set it to where your bait starts to drop, no free fall where the spool gains speed. Stay away from anything less than a 1/4 ounce, preferably 3/8. Baitcasters were made for heavier bait IMO, I have always been able to use a 1/4 ounce spinner with a trailer. Once you educate your thumb you can start removing brakes, I'm down to 2 centrifrugal brakes, and no mag brake, the distance I can cast has increased dramatically, that said anything less than a 1/4 I use a spinning set up, or sometimes a ML casting rod with a Curado Bantam. Remember with jigs the weight is just the jig head and hook, doesn't include the skirt or trailer, so you'll be able to cast 1/4 ounce jigs without issue, even 1/8 ounce if you use the right trailer. I would recommend getting some casting weights and practice casting, and flipping. With time you will become very proficient set yourself up for success use 3/8 ounce and practice away from the water, when you get near water your concentration will be on fishing not practicing. Good luck
  15. Here is a link to a website that has animation showing how to tie all kinds of knots. I like the blood knot myself http://www.animatedknots.com/bloodknot/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com
  16. The requirements to verify a state record varies, some states require verification from a Game Warden, others you need witnesses, but all require a certified scale. You can depending on the state have your scale certified but not all. In short if someone wants the accolades of having caught the state record there may be no other way, it will have to removed from the water to be verified. Add to that if he was using a Mustad hook, he may want the 100k from Mustad. Additionally there is no way to conclusively state that he removed the best genetics, unless of course someone has electo-fished the entire lake and knows without a doubt that was the biggest fish. I was told by a biologist that a lake in WV holds the new state record there, in fact there are several in the lake that will shatter the state record, but I recieved that info about 5 years ago, and the old state record is still intact.
  17. I recieved as a Curado CU100B Bantam as a freebie, the reel is in amazing shape works like a charm, and hardly a mark on it. Whoever owned it never used it. Anyway just trying to find some info, when were these made? I am assuming before the SF and HEG, it does have the super stopper anti-reverse. I think it's a 6.2:1 nice little reel have it on a ML jerkbait rod. Just trying to find some info on it. Thanks
  18. is the Klasse readily available? That's a new one on me, the detailing stuff probably harkens back to our Coastie days, lol. Always had to shine even the black boats. I had a Senior Chief once who wanted us to lay down the mast on the 41 to shine the running light brass! When he was reassigned that got painted.
  19. A-Jay Great looking ride, still kicking myself for selling my suburban. Get some McGuires instant detailer and a couple of microfiber towels. It works wonders on my black Silverado. They make it just for black vehicles, creates a deep black and the shine is awesome. Use it once or twice a week doesn't take long, definitely pays for itself, I don't have to wash the vehicle often and it also reinforces the wax.
  20. caught it on a jig awesome, not the alabama rig even better
  21. I know for me personally it took leaving everything else at home. I grew up with a limited exposure to different lures, I used a 1/8 jig head and 4 inch curly tail, that's it. So when I took fishing seriously I had alot of catching up to do. I quickly learned t-rigs and jigs, I thought senkos were gimmicks. I left everything at home and guess what started catching fish on them. The same for cranks, spinnerbaits, etc. This was the only way I could learn a new technique, if I had the t-rig stuff in the boat, after a couple of hours I had quit trying the new technique in favor of catching fish. Did I get discouraged you bet, but my personality is such that it is harder for me to go home without catching fish than it is if the bite is hot. I can easily leave when the fish are biting, but man let me be out in the boat for a half of a day without a bite and I'll stay as long as I can till I at least get a bite, physical limitations aside, sometimes I have to quit.
  22. A friend who chooses to live with a wife who continually cheats on him and at times smacks him around. He has CP and so can't defend himself. He likes to call and whine, I've done all I can, had the state come in and do inspections, reported abuse of the disabled, etc.
  23. I'm traditional, I like cork, although my newest two rods have the high density stuff and they are not wearing weird or anything, comfortable enough. Ima Bass Ninja who is a member here replaced some of the foam on his rod with golf club handle material, they are very comfortable.
  24. Thanks all, I'm pretty confident that its a combo of using a line that sinks, and reeling too fast. My cordination goes away if I add any speed, my brother plays the drums used to be in a band. He would let me try just to laugh, I can not for the life of me get one foot working the bass, another on the trap cymbal, one hand working the snare and another on the tom. So to get one hand snapping the rod and the other to move the handle is a challenge, lol.
  25. I lived in Greenbrier County near Lewisburg, could be on the Greenbrier in about 5 minutes and at Sandstone Falls on the New in 45. Smallmouth heaven, lol
