  1. welcome
  2. Do you use asnell with a Texas rig? Seems that the weight and rod action would make the plastic dance, maybe to much??
  3. Sorry fellas but YZ Hybrid is floro and mono copolymer, fused together, many manufacturer's copoly is just mono, some are mono with a floro coating, but YZ is different, I think it is why it demonstrates the best of both. http://yo-zuri.com/products/hybrid-600yd-clear/ from their website quote: Hybrid is the first and only fishing line that molecularly bonds nylon and fluorocarbon during extrusion. The result is a strong, dense new material that we call Hybrid. Hybrid takes advantage of the awesome abrasion resistance and sensitivity of fluorocarbon, while utilizing the flexibility and stretch of nylon.
  4. Recon, is your budget 100 per rod or total?
  5. The PQ is a great reel, at one time I had three. They saw more use than my higher end reels, can't go wrong with them. I've had Curado E series, Abu EXT series, have a Winch, the PQ will hold it's own with them, the E series Curado and Winch are better, but not a whole lot better. FWIW BPS just redesigned the Bionic, I am planning on getting one during the spring sale.
  6. Over the past couple of days I'm unable to see posted videos. Pictures work, and links to videos work. I deleted history, cache and cookies, problem remains. Any suggestions? Oh and it's an Android platform. Thanks
  7. I agree with ranger, bottom contact presentations demand the best rod, reaction presentations demand more from the reel. My set-ups are evolving, my crankbait rod cost 59 the reel 200, bottom contact a 100 reel on a 150 rod.
  8. I have some old knuckle busters with a patent date around 1900, they're in storage right now. Also some old creek Chubb lures, also in storage, I hate renting lol.
  9. I miss the opaque painted crankbaits that had gold or silver foil in the body, man I wish I could find some. I had a red bomber with gold foil that was a fish catching machine.
  10. When I was little my uncle routinely out fished me. I asked what I was doing wrong to which he replied that I was not holding my mouth right. He showed me how to squish up my face and what angle to tilt my head, after some coaching he finally said that's it don't move. I diligently kept that expression at the end of the day all I had to show for it was sore facial muscles and a stiff neck while he laughed all the way home! Never took fishing advice from him again lol.
  11. This may be borderline blasphemy, but I just purchased a Quantum Energy that holds 100 yards of 10lb. I got it for light baits was practicing with 1/8oz bullet weights was surprised how well it casts, have it paired with a ML rod.
  12. Anyone have a link to a video on how to tie?
  13. Also the silver max has a graphite frame, make sure there isn't any nicks in the frame near the spool.
  14. It is going to depend on the copolymer's make up. If the line is mainly mono it will float some, mainly floro sink. YZ Hybrid is a great mix yields the best properties of both line, it does sink but not as fast as pure floro.
  15. If I could only use one bait for Smallies, it would be a 4" curly tail grub on a 1/8 oz ball jig head, in smoke with black flakes. I've caught more smallies with that combo than any other. This is assuming a river or creek situation.
  16. Done, please update us so often so we know how to pray more effectively.
  17. The C4 is a tank, stick with weights 3/8 and above, you will find it is a great caster. They just hold too much line to handle light weights, assuming a 5600 size. You said your old round reel is about wore out, if its an old Ambassadeur I think you will find it inexpensive to restore, you just can't wear one out. I have two Abu round reels the EXT Pro, 5600 size one is on my frog rod, the other is all purpose, I've caught many LM with mine, I can throw as light as 1/4 oz on these. At one time all I had were round reels, C3's C4's and the EXT's perfectly suited for most freshwater fish IMO. Not as refined as some but work horses nonetheless
  18. Me too at 150 its all out of focus, unless its a 200+ reel on sale!
  19. A 4" curly tail grub, smoke with black flakes, or a light brown with gold flakes, tubes, 1/4 oz busy bugs jigs with craw trailer, hula grub, 1/4 oz spinner baits in brown/gold skirt with a motor oil/chartreuse grub trailer. I find in most creeks that once the Smallies start getting big that their main footage is creek chubs and craws, so that is what I imitate. You see ppl recommending white grubs allot, my experience in creeks is that you want more neutral colors.
  20. My ugly mug with a 5 lber, me and my Bride and my ink
  21. DC? Does that mean digital cast control?
  22. The Zebco 33 is a solid little reel all brass gears, growing up I thought it didn't get any better, Abu Garcia also makes a fine spincast. What the others have said is true, but if spincasting is your thing go for it. BTW I know a semi pro who keeps one in his rod locker because he can't skip with a baitcaster. He is good enough to won a Skeeter bass boat, and show a profit from fishing. It is funny watching him almost lay down and slingshot a plastic under a dock.
  23. I'm far from an expert on anything, I know that has been discussed here alot. here is a few links to related threads on magnesium frames http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/103371-curado-50e-saltwater/?hl=%2Bmagnesium#entry1133663 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/99031-reel-construction-graphite-vs-die-cast-aluminum-vs-extrudedmachined/?hl=magnesium
