  1. I have no problem with law enforcement watching, I do however have problems with another private citizen spying on me. Its a basic violation of privacy, and the footage PETA gathers will be used to further their radical policies. I don't think they will air footage that shows humane treatment, rather ones that show poorly placed shots, or gut hooked fish that end up as floaters because they are not legal size to keep. I've had more than one small bass take a buzbait hook to the brain and die instantly, on catch and release lake only. Illegal to keep immoral to let waste
  2. At first I thought this has to be a joke, but for $324.99 PETA is selling surveillance drones to its members under the auspice of keeping an eye on outdoorsmen. The plan is to start a new hobby of hunter and fisher watching!! To see how cruelly we treat nature....personally I think the drones would make for challenging target practice, but be careful because some state agency are using them too. http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/peta-launches-drone-fleet-advocates-hunter-watching/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Oct%2028%202013%20Daily%20Newswire%20(1)&utm_content=
  3. X2, your rod has to be able to load. My MH rods are rated on the low side at 3/8 ounce, so I would not even try to throw anything lighter than that. I have a ML casting rod that it is ridiculously easy to throw 1/8 ounce lures with. You have to make sure to stay within the rod's limitations to be successful casting anything
  4. If you can wait until the end of February, BPS has their annual spring classic sale, the Pro Qualifier will be on sale for either 79 or 69, if u live close to a BPS store u can trade in your old reel and get a credit, the PQ is the best 100 reel on the market IMO. The tournament special is an entry level reel, and I've never used one. Allot of the guys here say the mettle reels sold by Academy are good. I would definitely suggest that when u buy a reel make sure it has an aluminum frame, quality bearings, just because a reel has allot of bearings it doesn't mean its a good reel. Good luck
  5. Sorry for confusing ya
  6. Most of the time the stated size of a spinnerbait or a buzzbait is the lead head and does not include the weight of the hook, wire, blades or skirt. Once those are taken into consideration a 1/8 ounce bait is more like 1/4 or 5/16, same is true for jigs.
  7. This is very misleading. TT has reviewed many Revo's, from every generation. The STX Gen 2 achieved 24 lbs of drag, the only times a Revo did not achieve the stated drag was the 3rd Gen SX &STX. Given the consistency in performance with the Abu Garcia drag system I would be more likely to see this as an anomaly rather than the norm.
  8. BPS makes the crankin stick in a ml, great value especially when on sale. I have Quantum KVD ml 6'3", its really a hard jerk bait rod but is limber enough for cranks.
  9. Hopefully DVT will come along and post. He is a reel smith, site sponsor and very very knowledgeable.
  10. At one time all I fished with were round reels, then I had a few lp ones, now all but 1 is lp. I never had any difficulty switching back and forth. All of my round reels were abu, most were the EXT Pro, awesome reel, also had a recessed foot which let it set lower in the reel seat. As far as when Abu started making reels in Korea (the last time I bothered to look), all lp reels are made there, the BCX line is as well, the C3 and up are still made in Sweden, not sure about the new Morrum
  11. Since when has the truth had anything in common with environmentalists??? Radical environmentalist are the biggest threat to our sport. Them and slob fishermen, the ones who leave their trash laying around, break limit laws, just generally give fishermen a bad reputation.
  12. Great pictures, you should think about submitting them. Absolutely stunning!
  13. Personally I really enjoy offending the politically correct, its so easy to do, and their reactions are priceless. I say congrats
  14. Yeah my suggestion is to throw it away, biodegradable line sounds like an awful idea. By definition the more u use it the weaker it gets, from your post sounds like it gets weak fast.
  15. Absolutely BTW to the OP Bobby makes a very nice buzzbait, give it a shot
  16. Definitely agree about Martens I think he does what he wants, and doesn't worry about the sponsorships.
  17. Brian what I was saying is that they are paid to use fluro no matter the brand. Shoot the most accomplished highest paid angler are paid either through product placement or money to use everything you see during a tournament, from snacks, drinks, shoes, rods lures etc
  18. I don't think I expressed what I was saying clear enough, yes most all pro's use fluoro, not because it's better, but because they are paid to use it, either through sponsorship of the line they use or through a pro sponsoring the line and getting paid to advertise it. The reason the vast majority use it is because they are paid to, pure and simple no matter what brand it happens to be. It isn't a brand thing, its the most expensive line out there and all company's are paying to promote it so we as the consumer buy it. Think about why you use it, the vast majority of people really think that FC line doesn't stretch, however in test after test FC stretches as much and sometimes more than Mono. Stretching FC weakens it much more than mono, a good way to think about it is that FC is like a chain, stretch a chain and it doesn't recover it weakens. Mono is more like a towing strap, it will stretch but recovers, however repeat the process and it weakens as well. Most of the marketing surrounding FC is outright dishonest, it does not have superior knot strength, it does stretch which weakens it considerably, it has poor shock tensile strength, the invisibility test conducted on the FC are inconclusive some show it no more invisible than mono, but then again I doubt fish see the same way we do so that is a hard one to determine. Where does FC have an advantage only in abrasion and somewhat in sensitivity, but sensitivity is such a subjective area that there is no way to really tell. The abrasion issue can be over come with a premium mono and as sensitive as FC is, for my money there isn't enough increase between FC and Yo-zuri to justify the cost, and it is no where near as sensitive as braid. Tackle tour did two tests on FC compared to Berkley XL, it is a recommended read as it dispels most of the myths about FC. FC is used not because it's the best, its used because irregardless of brand it enjoys the best marketing.
  19. I don't like the stuff either gave up on it as well. I use Yo-zuri hybrid, has closed cell construction and is buoyant netrual both which assist in sensitivity. The refractive index is similar to straight floro, it doesn't stretch any more than floro or mono, has good abrasive resistance. Floro has to many negative that a good copolymer overcomes, it is just to brittle breaks easily, poor knot strength, if you do break off you need to cut behind the break several feet to remove any other "micro" breaks in the line. A kink in floro is as good as a break, if you have a bad back lash with kinks strip the line off and respool. I need to explain what I called a micro break an also the why a kink is so bad in floro, floro has a crystalline construction on the cellular level, kink the line or stretch the line too much and the interior of the line is broken, just the outer shell is holding it together. This property is the main weakness of floro and why it has such bad knot strength and why so many ppl mysteriously break fish off. If you like floro great keep using it, just thought I would expound as to why so many anglers don't. Additionally if I was a pro with a corporate sponsor who is paying me to fish and providing my line I would expound all of its qualities too. Take what a pro tells you about a product with a grain of salt, they are being paid to say what they're saying.
  20. Buzzbaits what are they??? I've only caught four fish over six pounds, three of them were caught on a double prop prop buzz. Chartreuse and white skirt and golden blades.
  21. Definitely Texas. I may actually get to do this one, my little brother just accepted a Pastorate out there and has already extended the invite!
  22. I use Yozuri hybrid for everything. IMO its the perfect line if like me you only want to use one line. Closed cell construction like floro equates sensitivity, neutral buoyancy can work top water with ease, enough stretch for cranks, abrasion resistant all around good line.
  23. That's awesome, glad they are backing their product so well. Sucks you're missing time on the water though.
  24. Back when the high speed reels first came out, the speed came at the expense of torque, and I typically at that time advised against high speed. Now with the advances in design you don't give up the needed torque to gain speed, so it is a matter of preference. I use a 6.4:1, but mainly because most of my reels except the cranking reel are that speed, it is 26 ipt, I do have a burner reel but it is a small finesse type reel so it isn't used for pitching jigs.
