  1. Personal preference, I use 1000 size, do u really need 200yds of line to drop shot? I have a 2000 series as well, but it doesn't get nearly the game time.
  2. That was awesome
  3. The year I caught my pb was the best year of basin I've ever had. I can't tell u how many 4-6 pounders I caught but I did get lucky enough to catch 3 over 7 two on buzzbaits one on a crank. PB came on a buzz. The first one over seven my son was throwing rocks into the water, the bass hit it three times. When I first hooked her I handed the rod to my four year old, then she jumped and daddy decided that the little guy may need some help! My PB came early one morning and was seriously seeing how high I could make the duckweed and pondmeal fly of the blades. She demolished that bait! And is to this point the biggest bucket mouth I've caught.
  4. Still 2.04 here in Aiken go 20 miles up the road 2.25 nearing Columbia
  5. I had a 1990 175tx Sea Nymph, great little boat had the 40 hp Evonrude in the twenty plus years the boat was in the family only routine maintenance was performed no repairs, I rebuilt the tilt and trim unit right before I sold it. Mine was a combo of welded hull and riveted supports.
  6. I used to drive a Chevy crew cab dually, with a long bed. Wheel base was almost 14 feet, I really liked mine. After having it and getting used to it, parking was a non issue, could haul anything I wanted. The ride is allot stiffer than a 2500 but nit terrible. Good luck
  7. I'm so sorry for your loss thoughts and prayers
  8. Smoke, motor oil rigged on a 1/8oz lead head
  9. Have never heard of it, but I've never had two lures fail in any river. 4" curly tail grub, or a Rebel Pop R
  10. I don't know if this has been discussed yet or not, SC lakes like Hartwell, Murray, Clark's Hill are all blue back herring based lakes. The bass here don't relate to cover as much. The bass primarily live in schools year round, out of cover, and suspended it's annoying and frustrating. This was mentioned over and over by Zona, the herring has changed the way these bass live, feed, and react forever. If you want to fish for these fish in traditional manner get off of the main lake, because it's hit or miss otherwise. The bamboo brush piles he placed did not play a key factor in this win. I think the best example of this was Takihiro, he was drop shorting OUTSIDE of the timber, because the bass don't go in there, they sit outside waiting for the herring to swim out. Allot of the time on the main lake largemouth schools will follow the stripers letting the stripers round up the herring and then clean up after the stripers decimate the herring.
  11. Dude what is that, looks like an aerator pump. JK, am curious how it works, can't figure it out by just looking at it
  12. Congrats hard work ethic and a good attitude has and will continue to serve you well
  13. Thank you, what made it even easier is the beater is shaped so the lines slides of in one piece.
  14. Ok I'm not responsible for any arguments this may cause. I had five reels to strip of old line today, annual deep clean and respool day. Anyway inspiration struck, I took the wife's mixer put one beater on it, tied the old line to it, wow that's the fastest I've ever removed line from a reel. Took about a minute each reel, I kept it on low and I was amazed how easy it was. Why didn't I think of this sooner?
  15. Yes sir, I have; they're real popular here with the striper fishermen. Is that what u are using on the great lakes?
  16. Alright Gentlemen, here is my question, the nearest experience I have to a multi-species is a Monark made 21 footer that I operated in the Coast Guard, it was classified as a utb (utility boat), from the bow to the water was definitely farther than I could reach. So in the multi-species boats how far is it to the water from the bow? I am assuming you have to net your fish, is that correct? Things I like about the ms boats, I can stand or nearly so while operating, makes life good on my back. Negatives are small casting deck on bow, less than five feet from console to end of bow, distance from water line to bow to gunwale, and small casting deck on stern for whoever is fishing with me and finally that huge windscreen (I'm extraordinarily bad about hooking it on a cast). The small bow and aft casting deck were the reasons I was thinking a true modified v, the bow is high enough to handle the weather I would fish in, but not so far that I couldn't reach the fish. A multi specie would be nice as there is a 2014 used one close by 25 hours on motor, price less than 20, but it is a Tracker 18 footer. Thanks for all the input so far, I really appreciate your insights.
  17. Didn't you get s new multi species deep v within the past few years? How are u liking it?
  18. 7 years in the United States Coast Guard, operated boats and told ppl what to do. Nothing like taking the old 44 out and playing in 12 foot waves. Bos'nMates rule, lol. A jay back me up on this. Downside broke my back and had to retire early.
  19. Cross saltwater off the list. I hate fish and skis, had one no bow. I can't wrap my mind around flipping off of the multi species set ups, the gunwale comes up past your knees. I guess what I'm saying is I know I have to compromise like I said 90% will be fishing lakes, much of that alone. My son will accompany me the most, especially as he gets older. Pulling tubes will be the hardest work, if they want to ski we will use my uncles ski boat.
  20. When my trimmed crapped out, this is what I did, fast on plane. I got it fixed as quick as I could.
  21. I'm in the market for a new boat, and I think I'm going to get new instead of new to me this time. I would love to be able to afford a boat for each type of fishing I do or want to do. Not the case. So I'm looking for the four wheel drive of boats. The go anywhere do anything type. If I lived on the great lakes it would be a deep v, multi species type rig. But I live in SC, to me the lakes are large, I'm an hour from Clark's Hill, Murray, and the Santee Cooper chain. 2 1/2 from the coast. I need a platform mainly for the lakes, occasional salt but not off shore. Need to be able to pull the kids on tubes. 90% of the time it will be used fishing the lakes, I'm thinking a modified v-hull aluminum with an outboard at least 100hp . What are your thoughts?
  22. Yes its a good thing you never want to plow water. Go over to you tube and watch some boating videos, you'll quickly see what happens when you plane BTW allot depends on your hull design some boats never truly plane
  23. If there is an Academy close by, their H2O house brand is a great deal.
  24. I throw spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, lipless cranks and buzzbaits on a 7' 6" MHMF BPS Crankin Stick, 12lb YZ hybrid. In heavier cover or deep water it's a Shimano 7' MHF either Clarus or Compre, 12lb YZ hybrid. Reels are 6.4:1 Energies 26" ipt
