  1. Wow, I can't believe nobody knows what it is! I thought for sure I would get a definite answer.
  2. That's awesome and definitely one dark cat! I would think a bite from a catfish would be far and few between on a fly, but who knows. Would be a fun fight for sure though
  3. Cool thanks for the info! I didn't think we had Pike or Muskie in central IN...I always here people talk about going up to MN or WI to fish for those species. I think I will go back and try to catch something. I will keep ya posted
  4. I'm not saying you're wrong but I looked up some pictures of Bowfins mouth and it seems like they have one row of teeth. I would like to go back there this time with some fishing gear and just play around and see if I can catch whatever it is. Haven't had time lately.
  5. Anyone have any clues on what this thing is? I'm in Central Indiana and I found this fish while turkey hunting. Here's the details: I found this skeleton near a VERY small body of water - I wouldn't even classify it as a pond and I wouldn't have guessed it would have held any fish especially of this size. It has dead trees standing throughout it and I would guess the water is maybe 6 or 7 ft deep (could be wrong) It's almost kind of swamp like. Whatever caught this fish sure picked it clean! The picture with my boot is to show the length - That is a size 13 boot and looks to be about half the size of the skeleton. You can see the skin that was peeled back in that picture as well and it definitely had scales so that rules out catfish. I know you can't see the scales but trust me they were there. The other picture shows its mouth - that thing had some serious teeth!! I bet they were a good half inch long and maybe a little longer. It had rows of them too. I'm not the most knowledgeable on fish species but this one has me stumped! The only big fish that I know of around here are catfish, bass, and carp. Catfish don't have scales right? Bass don't have teeth like that (at least not any that I stick my hand in), and carp have a smaller soft mouth I think. What do you guys think? The last picture is a sunfish that I thought was really cool looking that I caught fly fishing for smallies in my favorite creek.
  6. I'm just down the road in Montgomery county....I have been wanting to fish the Tippy for a while now, but I havent had the chance. I do most of my fishing in Sugar Creek b/c it's so close and such a good smallmouth fishery. I have heard ppl catch a LOT of smallies out of the tippy though so I'm sure the lunkers are in there!
  7. Make a trip down to Sugar Creek near Crawfordsville....one of the best smallmouth creeks in Indiana - if not the best.
  8. I really like my setup and its under $100. Medium Berkley Lightning Rod - Spinning - $35 Pflueger President reel - $60? (it was a gift)
  9. They are a blast aren't they!
  10. I fish for smallmouth quite a bit on a bigger creek. Sometime I flyfish and sometimes I use a regular rod/reel. I LOVE (dont we all) catching smallies on the top with my flyrod using poppers and floating flies. My question is: give me some good ideas for my spinning rod/reel for topwater baits. I have a frog but that seems a little big sometimes. Usually I catch smallies between 1.5 - 3 lbs on that creek. Thanks!
  11. lucasbass try some bigger creeks in your area - or ask if there are any good smallmouth creeks/rivers around. We have a good size creek around where I live that has exceptional smallmouth fishing. Just heard the other day from our local fly shop that someone they were guiding caught a 6 lber out of there. My PB from the creek is 3.5 lbs and I will NEVER forget the fight I got from that fish!
  12. I tried the magnet with no luck. I will give Pflueger a call tomorrow. I knew that spring was gonna go flying but I couldn't stop myself lol thanks for the help
  13. Ok so I fished on Saturday in the creek with my president and it performed great like it always does. So I go to put some new line on it tonight and when I crank it, it's very rough and I notice it's got some water coming out. Well I started to take it apart to figure out why it was so rough and I knew it was going to happen but I lost one of the extremely tiny springs :'( :'( Of course it was on multi color burbor? carpet and I looked for like an hour with a flashlight. So what do i do??!? Will Pflueger help me out if I call them or am I just screwed? I'm bummed :-[
  14. Wow simply amazing. You don't know how BAD I want to do this. Thanks for the pics - I really enjoyed them.
  15. Wow very nice...I've never been fishing for Pike but what if that fish decided he wanted to shake or flop while your holding him like that???
