  1. I seen it mentioned once, but one thing I do to my Jigs is I trim the Weed guard at an Angle. I take my finger and run it down the weed guard and I should feel the hook point as I run across it. That's how I know I have my guard trimmed right.
  2. Do you take Requests? I would love to purchase something like this for my dads upcoming Birthday
  3. @ Nitrofreak - Sorry if I gave the impression that I've never fished this lake, I've never caught a Bass out of this lake, but on that same note, I've only fished it like 3 times so It is new to me. The reason for that is because back when I was seriously into Bass fishing I lived 30 miles from where I live now so I never ventured up this way to fish this small impoundment (2,150 Acre) becuase at the time I only lived a few miles from Lake Eufaula. I really like your comments and will definitely add those spots to my List for this one section. @ Lund Explorer - I haven't thought of that, since I'm going to go out this week to check out those areas I have marked, maybe I'll go on Wednesday so I can kill two birds with one stone here. I really appreciate the help guys. As I fish these areas I'll post my findings here and also post new areas of the lake and ask for your help on those as well when I get that deep into it.
  4. Some background on me first. About 2 months ago I purchased a new Nitro Z7 and I'm just now getting back into Bass fishing after taking a long break, 10 years to be more specific, from it due to being assigned to Alaska. As soon as I got my boat I started fishing all of the spots that I used to fish back in the day and I guess it's because of the time of the year or what have you but I've been fairly unsuccessful on the water. To make matters worse the spots I used to fish aren't as accessible to me as they used to be. Now I have to drive 45 minutes to the dock and then a 15 minute boat ride. So working until 6pm, going home, hooking the boat up, getting changed, it's a big pain in the ... Anyway, there is a Lake within 5 miles of my house, I can have the boat launched and pulling away from the marina within 15 minutes of leaving my house. The problem here is I've never caught a bass out of this lake. I know the Bass are there because they hold a Dogfight tournaments out of it every Wednesday evening. So, I told myself, if I'm not going to catch bass, I might as well not catch bass in the lake near by instead of spending all that money on Gas getting to my old spots. I've decided that I will start at the upper end of the Lake and just start doing Recons of the area on a Map and hit those spots and just keep doing that until I get to know this lake better. Here are the first areas in the northern part of the Lake that I'm thinking of trying, my question to you is... Do you see spots that I haven't circled that you would try from the map? How do you feel about the spots I've circled? Are those spots something that you would also fish? Thanks in advance
  5. I've realized that is how I fish 100% of the time and I need to change that if I want to become even remotely successful at Bass fishing. I need to get better at dialing in and figuring out the pattern. I'm tired of Junk fishing... TIRED
  6. Black Jitterbug Devilshorse Johnson Silver Minnow Manns Jellyworm I fish all of the above regularly
  7. @ Frog Turds - That was some Hungry Pike!
  8. Todd, I purchased the NavPlanner but I don't see how I can upload my .usr file. I'll look at it tonight. We should do a How To write up, hehe and of course when I say "We" I mean... You, hehe
  9. Was wondering if I had any Locals that used this forum
  10. My morning game plan goes like this... Safelight till about 7:30 will be topwater lures 7:30 till about 9 will be casting at grass edges with a texas rigged worm 9 till 11ish will be using Crankbaits, Jigs, Dropshots, Shakeyheads just about everything I can do to get em to bite 11ish to noon I'll throw frogs at some pads
  11. My dad called me on Monday and was estatic about how many Bass he had caught off this one spot he found in Nickajack Lake. From 3pm to 9pm he had landed 37 Bass that ranged from 2 to 5lbs. Tuesday evening he went back there and caught 28 Bass in the same range. Wednesday he caught 32 Bass from 2-5lb Range. ALL From the same spot. I was so happy for him, he's 68 and when he was on the phone with me he sounded like a little kid he was so happy. Meanwhile, I go fishing yesterday for 4 hours in the evening and didn't catch the first fish. Sure do wish I lived closer to that hole he found, hehe. Anyway, it's very possible to do what you did when you find a piece of structure with the proper cover. Bass will stack in there to feed time and time again.
  12. I'm still learning my boat and everything but the one thing I want to do is be able to take all the information like waypoints and stuff out of my Lowrance, come inside the house and load em up on the Computer and edit the names and even add way points and then put them back on the Lowrance. How do I do that? Thanks a bunch guys
  13. For starting out, I would suggest you read this Guaranteed to Catch a Bass I would go as far to suggest that you focus completely on that, Create an entire Senko Setup, Rod, Reel, Braided Line, Flouro, Wacky Tool, Circle Hooks, the works! You will not be disappointed. Ever since I learned how to fish Senko's I don't think I've ever been skunked since.
  14. You should fish the Tournaments as a Non-Boater instead of trying to "make" this 12' thing work for you.
  15. Good lord, I don't know the limits of what I would, do to be able to paint my own crankbaits as good as that. Where did you begin to learn such skill and how long have you been doing it?
  16. 3 years ago I purchased 5 of those spoons and I haven't opened one package of them. I'm hoping now that I have my own boat I'll put myself into a position this year to where I can use them.
  17. a Mop Jig does this exact motion. I like taking a Mop Jig and putting a Rage Tail Chunk on the back of it. When the Jig hits the floor those Round Rubber strands flare out just like a crayfish. Also just as MonteSS said, Shakey Head imitates this as well.
  18. Ok, that's the reason I wanted clarification on which side you were calling the top. I intentionally put the blue on that side because it's a swimming jig. I fish these like a bladeless spinnerbait. This is the right side to be painted for a swimming jig. I do however want to thank you for your comment though, because I'm wanting to start doing the same thing with Regular Jigs and I hadn't thought of painting the weedguard side. Thank you
  19. I did put the blue on the top, or are you talking about putting the Blue on the side where the Weedguard is at?
  20. So I got bored last night after class and decided I'd try my hand at two tone painting a Swim Jig to look better with the skirt. Came out pretty good I think.
  21. Big Bass Man - You sir are talented! Do you sell them? If so I want to claim the Lemmon Pepper and Crappie one now... Please PM me!
  22. Thank you for this tip!!!!!! Holy cow I didn't know this! http://www.harborfreight.com/16-oz-powder-coat-paint-matte-black-93306.html
  23. Honestly, I ask the question, Why? I promise you, you will catch just as many Bass on a Jig with Zero paint, just a lead head than you would with the best looking paint job on the market. Do you care what color your Texas Rig Sinkers are? Please don't take this as me coming off rash, but if your Jig head has a Chip in it, keep fishing it. No need to re-paint it. It has nothing to do with why you're catching fish on it.
  24. Tried my hand at two toning a white swimming Jighead. I'm going to pair it up with a Bleeding Shad design I was working on. I'll get better at it. Just need a few more attempts.
  25. LOL, my thoughts exactly, nice pick up
