  1. You are 100% correct. I've tied my own jigs for years now and I've sold thousands of them as well and I can tell you right now the Jig head is nothing more than the weight that presents the lure which is the Skirt and Trailer. I've caught just as many bass on unpainted jig heads than I have painted. Think about it this way. How many bass have you caught on a Texas rigged worm that you used a regular lead bullet sinker? That is essentially an unpainted jig head.
  2. Throw this out there and start popping, no need to let it sit, just throw it out over the school and start chugging it. You'll get bit, promise!
  3. I think what you have is adequate but, like yourself I too have gotten back into it. I'm about a year in now and the one thing I changed this time than from 15 years ago is I'm more Technique specific with my equipment. If you're going to use a Rod and Reel for Crankbait, then purchase a Rod made for Crankbaits and a reel made for Cranking. If you want to fish a Jig then get a good Jig rod with a high speed 7.1.1 Reel, and Fish Jigs with it. Something that was mentioned and I'll reiterate on. Purchase a couple of Spinning set ups. Set yourself up with a Spinning rig so you can Drop Shot, Shakeyhead and throw Senkos with. Having a set up that will fish those three techniques will increase your Bag of Fish by ten fold.
  4. This is almost a week late, but anyways, I used the larger 6.95 Flirt in Sprayed Grass this past weekend up in Tennessee and had really good success with it. Caught one over 4#, one almost 4# and a couple of 2# Spotted Bass. I really like how they hold on the Jig head too, there's no slippage. Anyway, hope you guys have a great weekend of fishing, I'll be in class.... Uhhhg, Weekend MBA Classes really take the fun out of life!
  5. ^^THIS^^ Always know how long it's going to take your Senko to reach the bottom. 20' = 20+ Seconds, if you're line is falling falling and falling for 10 seconds and stops, set the hook. I will also give it a small tug as soon as it hits bottom to see if I feel weight, JUST In case I missed seeing or feeling a strike. Then I let it rest on the bottom for a good 15 - 30 seconds. Raise the rod tip 10", let it rest, rinse and repeat.
  6. Black Buzzbait works well for me at night. Fish it towards the shoreline where you would normally fish in the mornings for topwater action. The morning topwater action is just an extension of that nights topwater action.
  7. Todd, once again you are right on and I thank you sir for your help. Everything you said was exact, right down to the menu, menu hehe.
  8. Clear water for me is Watermelon Red Flake or a Green Pumpkin which you haven't listed anything close to those colors. As for the Jig head color, I'm a believer that it doesn't matter, you could easily cast an unpainted Jig head and get bit just the same as if you cast the best looking Jig head ever painted by man. As far as the size goes (weight) that depends on how deep your fishing.MonteSS and IBN pretty much nailed it.
  9. Will do Todd, thank you again. Wife just called and said I had a box arrive today, which means it has ARRIVED!!!!! I can't wait to put it to use this weekend on some structure fishing.
  10. I purchased mine Tackle Warehouse, pick up an extra package of O Rings as well. Just go to their site and do a search for Wacky Rig Tool, This is a MUST have if you're going to fish Wacky Rig. Saves SOOOOOOOOOO Many Senkos!!
  11. I can't explain how much my Dad enjoyed that gift. He was very touched as well as I. Thank you Mike for making it for me.
  12. Yep, sounds to me like you're on the right path. Like someone has already said, Throw it out, let it sink to the bottom, raise rod tip 10", let it sink, rinse and repeat. Often times when you raise your rod tip for that first time you've got one on already. Get you some JJ's Magic Clear and Chartreuse as well to put on those Senko's. Also, not sure if you have it or not, but the Wacky Rig Tool is awesome, you can catch 4 to 5 bass on one senko rather than tearing your senko's up by hooking them through the middle.
  13. Yea, I wouldn't be fishing with this guy any longer.
  14. The key is not finding someone that needs a list, it's finding someone that the list is naturally that person.
  15. Separate Process. You still have to clip the excess off the top of the head and then I usually take an old knife and scrape and smooth off the part where I clipped the excess. Then I put them in the oven and heat em up. You're just getting started, don't look for shortcuts, just go by the numbers and you'll be ok. Good luck and post pictures. The funny thing about starting out is a year from now you'll look at that first Jig you did and think, OMG I can't believe I was proud of that! lol
  16. Thank you for your reply Todd, I was hoping I'd get you for some Technical advice. So, cool, I do have the NMEA Network installed so it should be just plug and play then. After it's installed is there anything else, does the unit automatically use that antennae or will I need to select it?
  17. This^^ and add to that list what someone else has already mentioned, Someone that is there to help you figure out the fish / lake and out-do the Fish and not someone there trying to out-do you. I find a lot of times when I take one of my friends fishing they are trying to out fish me because of my passion for the sport and the amount of time and money I've spent in it, they're trying to out-do me. I want someone there that is enthusiastic and is sharing my enthusiasm in out smarting our prey.
  18. I agree Vinny, I absolutely love this worm. A Trick that I've been doing is I tie on the 1/4oz ShakeyHead with a 4.95 Flirt as the Sinker for a Dropshot Rig. If I feel weight on my line I know I have one on my DS Lure so I will start reeling in instead of jerking it. If I feel the snot being knocked out of it, I know it's the Shakeyhead being taken so I give it a jerk.
  19. How hard is the Installation for this? I'm very excited about having this, I think it's going to help me with offshore structure fishing this year. Thanks in advance
  20. Started fishing with these last month on a Shakey Head jig and I've been catching a lot of Bass on them. Anyone else fishing them? I haven't seen many people posting about em and I just can't think as to why due to how well they get bit! The bite is strong too, like the Bass smack the rod out of my hands they bite so hard. What's your favorite color and size? I have been fishing the 4.95's but purchased a bag of 6.95's last night and the color I've been using has been Pumpkin color but I think I'm going to give Sprayed Grass a try this weekend.
  21. Man I can't wait for Fathers Day to roll in here. Taking myself fishing that morning and I don't plan on coming home until someone calls me and say's Fathers Day is Officially OVER! With that said, I purchased a package of Watermelon Red and Junebug Roosters in the anticipation of things!
  22. To kind of reiterate what Nitrofreak said, hit every point you can hit. Probably something more important than a Depthfinder is a Lake Map. Pull one out, locate 5 or 6 points near where you are launching the boat and then start dissecting each point. Look at the Contour lines, look for points that come out into 15’ of water. Then take those points that extend into the 15’ range and start looking for irregular features on the contour lines. Then take those points and fish em slowly with C-Rigs. You’ll get bit
  23. I'm not sure where this topic should go so an Admin can read it or who to contact, but wouldn't it be nice if we could like Hover over the Topic Title and it give you a little preview of what the Body of the Subject is. I've seen a few Discussion boards with this option and it makes it SOooooooooooo Much better where you can decide at that moment whether or not you want to open that Thread. I mean someone posts in the Topic Title: Looking for some Help I'd like to be able to Hover over that Topic Title and see the Following: Needing some help with my Hummingbird Equipment Since I don't have a Hummingbird and have no clue about hummingbird, I'm forced to open the thread because I think someone needs some help on something. I just think it would be a cool option to have on this site.
  24. My next door neighbor has an Aluminum Boat exactly like this one sitting in his yard that hasn't moved in 10 years, I keep telling myself that one day I'm going to ask if I can have it, and deck it out like you've done and then sell it. It'll do two things, allow me to play and two, get rid of the unsightly thing next door. hehe
  25. I'm telling you, rig the popping cork and start catching those fish. It's that easy. No need to even attempt another technique. When those "Wolf Packs" Come up like that and start feeding all you have to do is throw the popping cork out there and start chugging it. Even if you get there late, they'll come back up. By Late I mean you see them busting the top of the water and you start trolling over to them so you can cast to them. Sometimes you get there after they've already quit busting the top. Throw the Cork out there and start chugging and it'll turn on another frenzy.
