  1. Now that's some sound advice!
  2. JB weld doesn't flex, and aluminum needs to flex. You'll fix the hole, but will area around the patch will eventually weaken and leak. Sikaflex flexes and it's designed for submerged applications. I picked some up at a marine supply store when I had an aluminum boat. Call them directly at 1-800-688-7452 to find a place near you that carries it. It comes in white or black. I found white online here . P.S. You may be tempted to get Sikaflex 291. Don't. While it has a faster curing time and it's cheaper, it's not as durable or as strong as the 292. 292 only costs a couple bucks more and most notably, is particularly designed for aluminum, whereas 291 is more general purpose. This is not an area where you want to take short cuts.
  3. A hole that small? Welding will create more problems that it will solve. Fill the hole with Sikaflex-292. Sikaflex-292 can replace rivets, screws, welds and other mechanical fasteners in building and repairing boats of all types. It's the bomb!
  4. We have several articles on the subject: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/BoatFinish.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/bass_boat_maintenance.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/boat_cleaning.html Enjoy!
  5. ... and that's exactly how it's designed - to give you a close ballpark figure. Due to endless variations, it's impossible to be dead-on accurate.

  7. Yes. Why? Read the FAQs.
  8. Let's just say he's taking a self-imposed break from the forums for awhile to recharge his batteries.
  9. Chris is correct. Also, the "Ex-member" status has nothing to do with banning members. There is no visual notification to other members whether or not a member is banned. You simply don't see him post any more - because he can no longer log in.
  10. He wasn't banned. It means the member deleted his own profile.
  11. There are several articles about buying boats in the boating section of this site: http://bassresource.com/fishing/bass_boats.html
  12. Welcome to the site! The FAQ's and Help section are your best friends right now. Get to know them well. They'll tell you how to post pics and other "secrets" of the forums.
  13. Ya know, there was a time when I thought a GPS built into a depth finder was a novelty. Now.... it's essential! If you can afford it, get it. You'll never go back.
  14. Better yet, do you have a link to your club's site? I presume all the info is located there.
  15. Off topic replies have been moved to [link=http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141515551]This Thread[/link]
  16. What, exactly, are you trying to save, and what brand/model do you have?

  18. AAGH!!! I'm hyperventilating here. Petroleum products are terrible for vinyl! So are harsh solvents and cleaners. They'll dry out the vinyl, despite using protectants. Over time, they shorten the life of the material. So, what does Glenn use? In a pinch, Fantastic. It's easy on vinyl and won't harm it. But usually you'll find me reaching for the 303 cleaners and protectants: http://www.303products.com/tech/index.cfm?fuseaction=feature.display&feature_id=18 Awesome stuff, easy to use, works better than anything you'll find in the automotive dept. They also make an excellent fiberglass protectant with UV protection that works on vinyl, plexiglass, and rubber too. No need to buy a bunch of different bottles for different surfaces on your boat.
  19. I ALWAYS trailer with the custom (manufacture) cover on my Ranger. Not only does it keep the boat clean, but it prevents people from tossing things in your boat as your travel down the highway (like lit cigarettes). Also, as it was mentioned, it's a major theft deterrant. Can they mar the finish? Yup. Get a custom one made exactly for your boat. They fit better and thus, less rubbing occurs. That said, I place beach towels on my seats, and had Ranger add felt-like padding all around the "rim" of the cover. They did it free of charge after I noticed it was wearing the finish slightly. I don't know exactly what that material is, but it's worked great for 3 years now without any fraying or wearing.
  20. This is a duplicate thread. You may continue on the other thread here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141164452
  21. fyi - there IS a line of clothing available to today at http://www.bassresource.com/mm5/merchant.mvc LBH is looking to expand it.
  22. Really the first thing you need to do is turn off the "auto" feature, and then turn off the fish symbols. Then.... NEVER GO BACK!! Force yourself to use it. It's a pain in the rear to begin with, but trust me, over time, you'll love it. Ideally, find a buddy who knows how to read sonar (your local rep is ideal) and take him out on the water in YOUR boat using YOUR sonar.... don't do any fishing. Spend a couple of hours as an on-the-water class. Short of that, read articles, and buy videos on the subject. Here's a few to get you started: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/fishfinders.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/depthfinders.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/depthfinder_fishfinder.html Enjoy!
  23. Take a look at these threads - they cover this topic nicely: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1133831558 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1139864081 Thanks!
  24. Place your mouse over "Tacklebox" at the top of this screen, then click "Free fishing log" right under it. Enjoy!
  25. I have a lot of articles on this posted on the site. Start here, http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/caring_for_bass.html and then follow the links at the bottom of the page.
