  1. The coffee-scented baits were, shall I say, "different". I'm not sure how much of it is fact and how much is hype. So I'm taking a wait-n-see approach on them. Same goes with those edible baits. Didn't see the rods at the Diawa booth. I think I got a little numb after seeing so many rods and reels after awhile. It got to the point I just wasn't too interested in seeing another rod/reel that was essentially a slightly different version of another rod/reel I'd just seen. True, Shimano has reworked a line of their spinning reels by essentially replacing the guts with magnesium and titatium parts. But that was essentially in line with the theme of what I saw from all the major manufacturers - improvements on existing lines. I did check out the Steez line, but was disappointed that there wasn't anything really "new" or earthshattering coming from them either. I was on a mission to find new and unique products, so I may have overlooked significant improvements on existing products. I did get to meet a lot of people and made a lot of friends. Sorry I missed you there. I didn't realize you were going to be there. Seems there was a number of BassResourcers there, and I got to meet most. There's always next year.
  2. Howdy folks, It's not too often I get to write an article for the site these days, but I took the time to jot down a few things about some of the unique and innovative items I discovered while at the ICAST show this year. Take a look here. Enjoy!
  3. I'm pleased to announce that Ghoti (Gary) has accepted the position! Gary has deep experience in computer technology and understands the processes involved for cracking down on copyright violators. He's also a LONG time member here who's become part of the "family". Please help me in congratulating him on his new role! I also want to thank everyone who expressed interest in this role. There's a lot of talented and dedicated people here, so the decision was difficult to make. There will be additional opportunties in the months to come, so I encourage those who applied to take advantage of those openings when they occur. Thanks again everyone, and congrats to Ghoti!
  4. While SOME of the incidents reported on that site are legitimate terrorist actions, most of them are not. It seems this site is exaggerating and bloating the reports. For example, here's a few "terror incidents" I grabbed at random: A huge majority are simply "suspicious packages" reports - most of which are not terror-related at all. Seems they're reporting anything with the word "bomb" in it. Or here's a good one: Turns out these were samples collected back in '96 by United Nations inspectors that were being delivered to a laboratory for analysis. They just went to the wrong place. Even better: So.... I don't put a whole lot of credit to a site that's collecting headlines on any and all bomb threats - or even wrong deliveries and balloons - and then classifying them ALL as terrorist activities. Seems extreme to me. We wouldn't have been calling them "terror incidents" back in '98. Let's not start calling them something different now because it's in vogue.
  5. Ok guys, this thread is slipping deeper and deeper past the threshold. Funny to some, offensive to others.... and less people are finding it funny as it goes on, if you get my drift (especially to those with children). Let's keep it clean, ok? That's all I ask.
  6. FLW is hitting Tri-Cities in a few weeks. Should be good fishing. Should see a lot of 5+ pound smallies each day. Too bad the WDF won't let them fish for largemouths, as there's a good population of them there too.
  7. Best fishing is during an outgoing tide, but incoming isn't bad either. Just avoid slack tide - move someplace elses. These bass want current! Look for wingdams and fish them end-to-end. Tubes, cranks, splitshot and dropshot all work good. Position your boat down stream and cast upstream, then hold on! Also note - be extremely careful when you pull off the channel. You can hit a rockpile in a heartbeat in some places.
  8. Well folks, I gotta close this thread. Seems a few folks have taken offense to a few things said and done on this thread, and now I'm getting complaints. I was afraid this was going to happen. An emotional topic like this is bound to hit the nerves of a few people. Sorry.
  9. Hey BassChaser57, ever go back to the guy who duped you and beat him about the head with LBH? ;D ...or maybe it's time to come clean with us and admit you were just trying to stir things up around here. :
  10. I'd recommend taking a wait-n-see approach with any of the Vicious line of products (they're coming out with more than just line soon). I've heard enough insider "gossip" that I wouldn't recommend them at the moment. Wish I could elaborate, but their lawyers might be lurking. Suffice to say, I'd put my trust in more established brands for now.
  11. Like I always say, it takes a big man to cry. ....but it takes an even bigger man to laugh at him!
  12. My wife is one of them! She spends more at BPS and I do!
  13. HAVE FUN!!!!
  14. I would borrow the neighbors phone for a few minutes, swap it with yours, and see if it works. If it does, then it's the phone. If not, then it's the line. If it's the phone, then Muddy may be onto something, so it's either try that or replace the phone. If it's the line, then have the phone company fix it.
  15. Easy fellas. Let's keep in mind the rule regarding religious/political posts. I would really hate to have to edit/delete things here, so let's not go there.
  16. Avid - Glad to hear you're on the mend and that they didn't accidentally remove an appendix or pancreas or something. Rest well and you'll be back in action sooner than you realize. Wa, WHAT!?! George!? You ok? What's up?
  17. Robert, you're too kind. I'm just a simple guy who loves to fish. I really enjoyed the conversations I had with you and Willowmeenia (I'm certain I spelled that wrong!). You're a fun couple and a class act. I had a great time. Hope we can do it again sometime! Glenn
  18. The problem with this story STILL circulating the Internet is that everyone seems to leave out all of his apologies and actions afterward (such as getting the owner convicted in court). This is why I hate rumors and "smack talk" about pros and celebrities. They're only part of the truth, and not the whole story. So let's focus on the positive results he achieved, as well as other positive aspects/individuals of the sport.
  19. Agreed. Just last weekend I hit a board floating in the middle of the river. Heard the "THUMP!" as I passed over it, but fortunately no damage to the skeg or prop. But if I had an external transducer mounted on the back like you did, then it's goodbye transducer. Glad to hear Humminbird is taking care of you. And as for the punctuation - just our way of saying "Welcome Aboard!"
  20. Hello, I am looking for one person who would like to join the BassResource.com team, right along the ranks of the moderators. This is not a new moderator position, however. This has to do with the rest of the site. Namely, the protection of copyrighted material. Since its ***, BassResource.com has vigorously defended its copyrights. The Internet makes it all too easy for somebody to copy and paste an article, in its entirety or in part, and then republish it on their website, often claiming the content as their own. This is nothing new - it's been happening since the site launched. I have been the one finding the offenders and enforcing our copyright ownership and protecting our brand. Over the years, I have filed thousands of complaints, and won them all - sometimes resulting in the elimination of the offending sites. Several hundred have been shut down over the past decade as a result. I take copyright infringement seriously. Those that steal from my site, pay dearly. That said, a disturbing trend has surfaced on the internet that involves splogs, scrapers, feeds and other technological advanced tools that are doing this automatically at an alarming rate. Suffice to say, I cannot keep up with the volume of copyright violations. I need help. I'm looking for a voluteer who has the following qualifications: Very technically adept - experience with advanced search techniques is a must as is knowledge/experience with various web codes (HTML, Javascript, ASP, etc.). Knowledge/use of RSS feeds, alerts, etc. a plus. Willingness/ability to work on this daily at least 1-2 hours on average. This is a long-term comittment. Only qualified individuals who wish to do this over the long haul will be considered. A passion for this site is a must. Knowledge of electronic copyright/trademark laws a plus, but not mandatory I will provide you with the means/tools to seek out copyright infringement and the offendors behind them - especially those that try to hide their identity (they can't hide). You will also be given the means to shut down the sites, remove them from all the major search engines, and remove them from Google AdSense, Yahoo's Publisher Network, Commission Junction, AdBrite, etc. I will provide guidance, tools, and training every step of the way. If you like to bust the bad guys, this can be a very rewarding and fun experience - PROVIDED you understand that occasionally you WILL encounter the defiant, abusive person who believes they have a right to steal your content (because they believe everything on the Internet is free for the taking). They don't believe copyright laws apply to them. These are the ones that are fun to shut down. PM me if you're interested in becoming a proud member of the elite BassResource.com crew and help the site grow for years to come! Thanks! Glenn
  21. Nitro - sometimes funny jokes when said in person just don't come across the same way in written form. This is one of those times.
  22. Hi and welcome! If you do a search on the forums for "snakes" or "hannon", you'll see there's a number of posts about these lures. They should answer your questions. (just click the search button near the top of the page to get started) Thanks!
  23. You'll get your answers MUCH quicker if you read through the FAQ. Enjoy, Thanks!
  24. Chris, Sorry, but it seems to be just you. Is it slow for you both at work AND at home, or just at work? I'm guessing work, because I experience problems at work accessing ANY forum using YaBB. I attribute that to our freakish, over-protective IT department and their myriad of firewalls, spyware bloatware LAN desk software, virus software, etc... a virtual fortress to keep us from using our computers and getting any work done!
