  1. Nope, sorry, they're not a sponsor. Our sponsor page lists all the companies that support BassResource.com. *** & * currently provide member discounts. Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas give a portion of the procedes to BassResource.com (you must click their banner 1st). And of course Bobby from MegaStrike/Cavitron/Evolution, George from Extreme Baits, and Lane & Tony from Please Release Me have been tremendous supporters of this site. All of the advertisers listed support this site, and are what make it possible. I highly encourage you to help them support us by continuing to do business with them. Thanks! Glenn
  2. Holy Moly! That's a whopper of a bag! http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_123/flw-clear3-07.html
  3. What's MY best limit in a tourney? That's easy - less than the guy who won! ;D
  4. Definitely the Pats. But honestly, I don't have much interest in either team. I'm just treading water until the day the NFC is at least competitive, if not dominating, in the NFL.
  5. Hate to go against the grain here but.... I've caught plenty on 3" white Senkos on a splitshot rig. Great in the river in the fall when the shad are running. Also used it as a follow up bait when they stop hitting the bigger sizes.
  6. Has anyone been paying attention to this? 250,000 people evacuated, including a hospital. They're using the Charger's stadium as an emergency shelter. This is bad news. It's expected to last several days. Hope all our members from that area are safe, and that their homes are out of harm's way.
  7. Out here, we went from summer straight to late fall almost over night! About a month ago, temps here plunged from the 90's to the 50's and raining in 1 week, and have stayed in the 50's ever since (sans a few days in the low 60's). Water temps are in the low 50's already - something you don't normally see until mid- to-late November. Already had our first storm of the year....again, another "November" event. Normally we get temps in the mid- to-upper 60's at this time of year. Screwy! ....it's going to be a long winter if this keeps up. :-/
  8. I've witnessed this twice. Once was when the guy's transmission failed while loading his boat alone. Seems the guy never used his parking brake, which is why his transmission eventually gave out. Second time was when a 4x4 tried to launch his ski boat on a steep, algea-soaked ramp (very slick!). This is right after we determined we were going to a different ramp. We tried to tell him it was risky, but he did it anyway. In he slid - while he was in it! It happened so fast, we didn't have a chance to do anything to help him. He bailed out through the window.
  9. Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! This is the exact answer I was going to post. Externally mounted transducers don't work very well, if at all, while underway using the big motor. Cart7 explained the reasons very well.
  10. I want to see you fish wearing your helmet!
  11. I laughed when I read the subject line - HARD! ;D
  12. Actually, the book references many studies by "independent" (is a university study independent? a government agency?) scientists... Was waiting for somebody to mention that... You need to be very careful here. He lists proven studies and facts to base his own theories and studies from. Neither his theories nor his own studies have been independantly verified. To be sure, there's some great info in the book. Just need to seperate proven facts/studies from his own theories/studies when reading it. And I'm not saying his theories/studies are necessarily wrong - just not proven. In the scientific world, that's an extremely important difference.
  13. Just a word of caution about the book - none of his theories in that book have been independantly verified by certified scientists/laboratories. I'm not saying they aren't true, or that he's full of it. Just worth noting that it's not Gospel. I wouldn't go quoting the book as "fact". But it does bring up some interesting theories worth further, independant studies.
  14. Catt - great info on Anise and its consumption by humans. We're talking fish here, however. Totally different biochemistry. While I won't get into some needless argument with you, and waste time searching the Web for some snippet of a quote taken out of context to make a point, I will go as far as saying it's possible Anise oil may not be good for fish if they ingest it. I know garlic isn't good for them. Besides, can't say I've seen too many Anise plants growing in a lake lately. : Not attacking you, just pointing out that what might be fine for humans, could be bad for fish to ingest. It's similar to chocolate - you wouldn't give that to your dog, now would you? It's toxic to them. Consider chocolate is to dogs as anise and garlic is to bass.
  15. I explain how the rod is built, plus review several other new products, in my article here: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/icast_2007.html Hope that helps!
  16. Great link RW!
  17. I'm not a fan of either team. Too much hype for an easy season (so far) for both. It's undeserving. Going to Texas Stadium is not a hardship for New England, it is simply an opportunity to showcase its talent. The Patriots do the big things right and the little things just as well, and that includes playing their best football on the road and getting under the skin of those that allow it. That includes T.O. He so desperately wants the love and attention that comes with being the best that he is sure to be on edge Sunday. The fact that Moss is rolling into town will only make the hype and pressure that much greater. If things don't go well, look for him to explode...or implode, as it may be. That also includes Romo, who is accountable for ALL 6 turnovers in their last game. As a quarterback, there's no doubt that's on his mind going into this weekend. An early interception could mess with his confidence for the rest of the game. Look for the Pats to steamroll over the Cowboys.
  18. I just did it and scared the cat!
  19. You're Invited! The mods and I listened to your feedback, and I am pleased to announce the 3rd Annual BassResource.com Road Trip will be held at Lake Guntersville, Alabama on March 23-28, 2008!!! Some of the many reasons why this lake was chosen: 1. Maximum member participation 2. Reputation for numbers, variety and size (recognized "tour" lake) 3. Enormous shoreline with a variety of structure and cover 4. Best time of year to fish this lake (spawn should be in full swing) 5. Outstanding accomodations (reasonably priced) 6. Access to other lakes as contingencies arise (wind, rain and waterflow) 7. Relatively easy access overland or by air 8. No boat or car rental required 9. Guide services available 10. For those looking for "fishing alternatives" nearby Birmingham is a historic Southern City (which was voted the "Bass Capital Of The World" by Bassmaster Magazine subscribers). The fishing on the Lake is excellent that time of year. The bass are spawning starting around the second week in March and there are alot of bass, both largemouth and smallmouth. From that location you aren't far from the best Spotted bass water in the country. You don't want to miss this one! Book your reservations now! Here's the information: Lake Guntersville State Park is the headquarters for the event. We have reserved 13 Lakeside Cottages & 14 Chalets for arrival of March 23, 2008 and checking out on March 28, 2008. Both have a king bed in one room, and 2 queen beds in another. The Chalets have one bathroom and a tremendous view. The Cottages are on the lake, have 2 bathrooms, and are near the boat launch, BUT are about 1 mile from the hotel and chalets. Each cabin and chalet is $125 per night plus tax for a total of $141 per night. There are also 321 campsites for anyone with a camper (full hook-ups available) starting at just $17 per night. In addition, you may book a room at the newly remodeled hotel, which has a spectacular view and is adjacent to the chalets. There are several 1 and 2 bedroom options in the hotel starting at $98 per night. The wife and I will be staying there. For more information, visit http://www.guntersvillestatepark.com/ and http://www.alapark.com/parks/park.cfm?parkid=5 RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE BY YOU! They will fill up fast, so don't delay! Call 800-LGville to make reservations. You MUST mention group code CGBASS in order to get your reservation. You do not have to book it for the 23rd through the 28th, you can go longer or shorter. Just understand we cannot guarantee availability if you want to stay outside those dates. The cut-off date for people to make reservations is February 23, 2008. More information and news will be posted on this thread regarding who's going, who's cooking, who's bringing boats, who needs back seats, etc. Looking forward to seeing you there! '08 NO EXCUSES!!
  20. And just for the record, there's a few things the mods are doing behind the scenes regarding this situation and the parties involved. It may seem on the surface not much is happening, but trust that there is. No need to bring it out in public. Just wanted ya'll know everyone is being held accountable - no favorites.
  21. I'm waiting on one piece of information from the resort, then the announcement will be made.... hopefully today.
  22. Fletch - your response did nothing to alleviate the situation. I expect better from you. >
  23. Lest I remind everyone - this is a fishing forum. Geez, can't we have a decent conversation without somebody getting all riled up? Winter hasn't even set in yet, and some of you are already losing it. Take a chill pill folks. Not trying to mitigate one's feelings, but the over-the-top reactions are just that, beyond what is necessary. Avid - I think you have a point in there somewhere, but I couldn't understand it through the clenched teeth. Besides, weren't you and Fletch going to stay in your own corners of the house anyway? Do I have to ground you?
  24. Unabasser - you got spanked because of the way you presented your opinions, not because of your opinions. You also attacked another member in the process. Not exactly the way to get me to throw out the welcome mat for you. By the looks of your post, it sounded to me like you don't like this site, don't like the members, nor the way I run it. Didn't seem to me there was no way to even begin to attempt to address your concerns, as your mind was already made up. So why bother? As another put it on this thread, "Unabasser's post may have been harsh." And you did it again in your 2nd post. It was good, useful feedback until you got towards the end, and then you added more jabs and sharp comments. And you expect what? A warm response to that? Are you kidding me? If you run out in front of a train and get hit by it, don't blame the train. And most certainly don't act surprised. So don't get your fur ruffled if I didn't respond to you with open arms. You've proven in the first part of your 2nd post that you can express your opinions in a thoughtful, meaningful way that is helpful. You'll get a more positive response by writing that way than you will by using the tone and pointed remarks of your 1st post. I do hope you've read my other posts, as that might help lend some insight into why we do what we do. We're not trying to shut people up, nor are we trying to choose favorites, etc. Just trying to promote the positive and limit the negative. Understand that everyone has a different idea of how far is "too far", so there's really no way find a sweet spot for when and when not to close a thread. Because of that, I understand some people, who have a higher tolerance for "too far", will get upset every time a thread is closed. Equally so, there's just as many who feel we didn't close it soon enough. So we try to find a balance in the middle. If you find yourself one of those people on either end of the spectrum, it's not going to change. So it is what it is. That is, it's a fishing site, not your life. ---- Speedbead - great suggestion! I'll see about incorporating it!
  25. I like Gordo, even though I'm an Elliot Sadler fan (been a tough 2 years for Sadler fans. He needs a new team). In fact, I like most of the drivers, except for a few that mouth off too much. Getting a little tired of seeing the same guys up front though. That said, that was a terrific move by Gordon and an exciting finish. He raced clean, and masterfully pulled off a well-timed move like the seasoned veteran he is. Nobody can fault him for that!
