There's one glimmer of light.... a team that's so bad, "it's almost freakishly enjoyable."
Yes, the Mariners lost over 100 games this year, the Seahawks have gone from dominance to disaster overnight, and the college football teams so bad it took double overtime in a loser-against-loser game yesterday to determine who sucked the worst.
The sports scene in the Pacific Northwest is so bad, that nobody cared when the Super Sonics threatened to leave town earlier this year. Rocked by scandles and decades of dismal seasons, Seattle was actually happy to see them leave, rather than pay a ransom....er... more taxes, to meet their demands to build a new arena.
Oklahoma was more than happy to welcome them to their city. Why? Nobody really knows....or cares....in Seattle. Apparently Oklahoma thought moving them to a new location and renaming them to the "Thunder" would change things.
Oh how niave. The Thunder is the worst team in the NBA.
They are 14 games into their new season, and I didn't think anyone cared. Yet they are so awful they have attracted a cult following in the northwest. Which roots for them to lose.
It's making this dismal sports year a little more enjoyable in the Pacific Northwest.
Here's an editorial on it that sums it up nicely: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/dannywestneat/2008425129_danny23.html
