  1. No, that's not correct. It has nothing to do with satellites, and it NOT controlled, activated, or operated by law enforcement (or any other gov't agency for that matter). What the cell phone company does, at the request of authorities, is "ping" the cell phone (send a brief signal). They can then triangulate the general area of where the cell phone is using the cell towers that register the phone's signal to help authorities narrow down their search to a specific area. True, some cell phones now have GPS capabilities, but it's not widespread yet, plus I'm not sure there's any such GPS technology that works even when the phone is off.
  2. Depends on the carrier and how much they charge (or don't charge) for oversized for checked baggage. Some charge a fee for every checked baggage, progressively getting larger per bag (AA charges $100 for the 3rd bag! Yikes!). Some charge if they're over 50lbs (Delta charges $90!). So the first question is: how much baggage are you bringing and what will it cost? The compare that with shipping the gear to Kentucky instead. Keri and I bring A LOT of stuff (for obvious reasons), so we ship all the gear and just bring our suitcases with us for the trip. IF YOU DO bring fishing gear with you while flying, ALWAYS go to the oversized package pickup first before getting your luggage (if you're bringing rods). This is where you pick up golf clubs and such. These things tend to "walk off" if you're not there to pick them up as soon as they appear. I know of several pros and golfing friends who have lost their gear this way. There's no security to stop it from happening. Fair warning.
  3. Idaho***er - Keri and I will be arriving Saturday at the same airport. I haven't booked the flight yet, but if we land when you're there, you're welcome to ride with us to the lake. That Cannon is a sweet camera! Bring your wireless mics too. You'll want to use them. I'll be bringing my Sony HVR-V1U to the event. Between those two and LBH's cameras, and anyone else who brings a video camera, we should have some great footage this year!
  4. That's great news!
  5. #1 works with any cell phone dialing 911 (where 911 is available) as well as 112 (primarily Europe) #4 - Your cell provider already has the number (provided you bought the phone from them). You don't need to tell them. This is also known as the IEMI number. #2 and #3 are false. The only thing that's fully true is #5, and even then, you're saving what, 75 cents?
  6. Best thing to do is visit your local unemployment office. If you paid unemployment taxes, then you will recieve some form of benefit. How much is hard to say due to all the variables. The friendly folks (no kidding) at the office will explain it to you. Call first! Due to the volume of unemployment claims, they may have orientation classes instead to answer questions like yours. That's what I had to do after the *** bubble burst in '01.
  7. WOW! Those temps are insane! And here I was upset the weatherman goofed and changed the weekend forecast from mid 50's and sunny to low 40's and cloudy. Guess I won't complain now. Makes you appreciate insulation and good building codes. Everyone stay safe and warm!

  9. Unless you're on the west coast. Saw the episode. Great ending!
  10. I think the last part of you post was the reason they were taken. Anything else = lawsuit. Doubtful DSHS is that stupid.
  11. Another testimony to the character and charisma of the fine folks here. Nowhere else but BassResource! Great gesture gentlemen. You lead by example.
  12. Classic example of 3 things colliding: 1. Hiring an agency that's not equipped to handle large, complex sites 2. Too few or no usability tests (or not fully analyzing and implementing the results) 3. Too many voices demanding to be on the front page - and getting it. Designing and overseeing large-scale sites is no easy task. Been there, done that, still do it. Millions of ways to do it wrong, few ways to do it right.
  13. Hey that's awesome! Congratulatons!! Hopefully when Keri is there for the WBT we'll get a chance to meet her!
  14. What state?
  15. Oh man, that reminds me - if anybody knows where I can order good hushpuppy mix online, please let me know! They don't sell that stuff around here.
  16. Knowing about them doesn't count. You can look them up on Wikipedia, but that doesn't equate to using them. HR Puffinstuff - LOL! Jimeeeee!! Land of the Lost (Sleestacks!), the Banana Splits... Good times. Anybody remember the claymation kid's shows like Davey & Goliath or Gumby? What about Jot? And whatever happen to Twisp cereal or Suzi-Q's anyway? And yes, I remember watching the color bars until the cartoons came on. Any of you younger ones think all the music on commercials is new and original, think again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8jlJpceXpY&feature=related
  17. My dad worked at one of those stations when I was kid. I drove my dads nuts jumping the bell hose!
  18. Gentlemen let's ditch the rhetoric and answer the young man's question. Personally, I think the speech should be more about adhering to proper limits and regulations when taking fish, and practice C&R more often than not. Here's where you can find a lot of information: Proper catch and release: http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/caring_for_bass.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/handle.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/catch_release_bass.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/after_the_catch.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/reducing_bass_mortality.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/preserving_the_resource.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/livewell1b.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/handling_summer_bass.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/fish1.html Selective harvest vs. pure catch and release http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/selective_harvest.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/fishing_limits.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/catch_release.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/catch_and_release_bass.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/bass_limits.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/slot_fish_management.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/slot.html These are just the tip of the iceberg here. With any of these articles, there's more listed on the right margin under "Related Articles". Enjoy! Glenn

  20. C'mon guys. Do you SERIOUSLY believe DSHS would remove a child from its parents simply because they didn't like his name? Think about it.
  21. Justice at last: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28655143/
  22. It will be about 10 degrees above average in the northwest (about 55 degrees). But it was just a few weeks ago we single-digit temps, followed by record rainfall and warm temps. 2-3' of snow and ice followed by major flooding. I think we earned the warmer temps.
  23. Personally, I think their outrageous, outlandish, and illogical statements are a blessing, for no logical, rational person will give them any credit. Thank your lucky stars whenever they come out with bizzare campaigns and slogans. People just laugh at them for being so ridiculous.
