I grew up listening to country only because my dad loved it so much (still does). I heard all the oldies you can think of - Hank Snow, Jimmy Rodgers, Johnny Cash, Merl, Waylon, Jim Reeves, and just about anything you can square dance to.
I hated it....and still do. ;D
Sorry, but I was a rocker as soon as I hit my teens...well, actually, ok, anything that wasn't country I listened to (yes, even new wave ). But now I like the new country - anythng newer than say 2000, except I do like some 90's stuff like Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, and Dwight Yokum. But if it's got too much twang (like George Straight), or is about a divorce, then I change the channel. ;D
