  1. I've done really well on a z hog as a trailer. It has a very subtle action but also gives the bait a lot bulk.
  2. In my experience a jig is a great way to get bigger bites. Especially fishing offshore you could get a lot more bites with a Texas rig but the jig usually produces fewer but bigger bites.
  3. Swim jig in craw or bluegill
  4. Rage craw!
  5. I have fished some down there in your area. My wife's family has a vacation house on the biloxi river and the fishing there is pretty tough. It's the only tidal fishery I've fished and I started doing my best when I noticed there were a lot of small minnows up in the shallows. I started throwing a micro chatterbait and actually caught the better size fish. I was throwing bigger baits before and wasn't getting bit so I guess if the bigger baits aren't working you can always try matching the hatch.
  6. Oh I gotcha some of the fish were schooling right around the dock when I was there.
  7. Me and my friend went a few weeks ago and caught 71 but only 5 keepers. Caught all the keepers on a jig but caught a ton of fish on swim baits that were schooling. It was a blast though best trip I've had in awhile.
  8. The jig is the way to go at Newton in the summer I get on the points with a 3/4 ounce jig and that's the best way to catch the keeper size fish. The Texas rig and deep cranks will get better numbers but usually not as many keepers.
  9. I started with a dirty jigs swim jig and have never had to throw another brand. For trailers I normally throw a rage craw in the fall sometimes a 5 inch white swim bait.
  10. I bought one pack of them but haven't thrown them yet. They look pretty good but storms baits seem hit or miss. I've done well with some of their stuff and not caught a fish on others.
  11. I like to throw strike kings and my favorite is definitely dirty jigs.
  12. I fish a lot of swim jigs and my go to trailer is a rage craw. I'm sure some trailers are better for certain conditions but a rage craw gets me a lot of bites. In the fall a 5 inch white swim bait works well too.
  13. I prefer swim jigs in clear water, when there's lots of fishing pressure, and in heavy cover. It hardly ever gets hung up my best day I had on a swim jig I caught over 20 fish on the same point by bouncing it off of stick like weeds.
  14. Yeah I guess that's kind of bogus we never cast over each other to catch fish.
  15. Me and my friend always work together when we go to ponds. If one of us finds them stacked up or something we always tell the other person to come over. If it were a stranger that did that though then that would be poor etiquette.
  16. I joined the group a few days ago I did a few tournaments last year and did alright. Curious to see who does well in this tournament.
  17. Swim jigs are definitely my go to reaction bait for clear water. Shaky head would be my go to finesse technique.
  18. That was a good read. I had a guy I worked with that swore by the weapon jig and said he used to tear them up on it. He didn't fish much anymore so he have me the rest of the jigs he had. I've used them a few times and done alright I need to try flipping them though.
  19. I have 2 really strange stories that come to mind. The first one me and my friend were wading a creek below a spillway. We found a big heron that had gotten caught in fishing line attached to a tree and broke his wing in half. He was still wrapped up in the line so me and my friend worked our way close enough to him. I had a net to hold out just in case he tried to attack us which he didn't. My friend was able to cut him free so at least he had a chance of survival. The other story me and a friend were at a power plant lake a few hours away. We were fishing when we saw a green snake swimming by our boat. He started freaking out because he doesn't like snakes and tried to get away with the trolling motor. We lost sight of him so we thought he had just disappeared. So hours later we packed up and left and went to cracker barrel on the way home probably an hour in. As we get out of the car he starts freaking out again. I see the green snake's head sticking out of the boat motor. I took the motor cover off and he was coiled around the motor. I have no idea how he stayed in there with the boat running and the hour car ride but it was pretty crazy. I got him out of the motor and let him go luckily green snakes are not at all aggresive.
  20. Chatterbaits work year round and you can also experiment with different trailers. sometimes they want a larger or smaller profile trailer.
  21. I am on vacation in gulfport Mississippi. I didn't bring my boat so I was looking for somewhere to catch a few bass from shore. I would like to find a pond or something if I could. if anybody is from the area and could give me somewhere to catch some bass I would appreciate it.
  22. What Edwin brought in was impressive no one was even close definitely well deserved.
  23. Lipless cranks, jerkbaits, jigs, and a shakyhead with a wacky worm.
  24. I do really well on a drop shot rigged only about 4 inches off the bottom. That way you can shake it in place right on their bed. Throw it kind of far past the bed then drag it onto the bed and shake it.
  25. Just wanted to say hi I hadn't seen this thread but I am from the bloomington normal area. I mostly fish bloomington and evergreen but sometimes go to other lakes a little farther away.
