In my experience a jig is a great way to get bigger bites. Especially fishing offshore you could get a lot more bites with a Texas rig but the jig usually produces fewer but bigger bites.
I have fished some down there in your area. My wife's family has a vacation house on the biloxi river and the fishing there is pretty tough. It's the only tidal fishery I've fished and I started doing my best when I noticed there were a lot of small minnows up in the shallows. I started throwing a micro chatterbait and actually caught the better size fish. I was throwing bigger baits before and wasn't getting bit so I guess if the bigger baits aren't working you can always try matching the hatch.
Me and my friend went a few weeks ago and caught 71 but only 5 keepers. Caught all the keepers on a jig but caught a ton of fish on swim baits that were schooling. It was a blast though best trip I've had in awhile.
The jig is the way to go at Newton in the summer I get on the points with a 3/4 ounce jig and that's the best way to catch the keeper size fish. The Texas rig and deep cranks will get better numbers but usually not as many keepers.
I started with a dirty jigs swim jig and have never had to throw another brand. For trailers I normally throw a rage craw in the fall sometimes a 5 inch white swim bait.
I bought one pack of them but haven't thrown them yet. They look pretty good but storms baits seem hit or miss. I've done well with some of their stuff and not caught a fish on others.
I fish a lot of swim jigs and my go to trailer is a rage craw. I'm sure some trailers are better for certain conditions but a rage craw gets me a lot of bites. In the fall a 5 inch white swim bait works well too.
I prefer swim jigs in clear water, when there's lots of fishing pressure, and in heavy cover. It hardly ever gets hung up my best day I had on a swim jig I caught over 20 fish on the same point by bouncing it off of stick like weeds.
Me and my friend always work together when we go to ponds. If one of us finds them stacked up or something we always tell the other person to come over. If it were a stranger that did that though then that would be poor etiquette.
