Remember - you can almost double your runtime by switching to 6V golf cart battery cells. A bit more weight, but the time is worth it. 2 x 6V cells will run a 12V motor almost twice as long as one 12V cell. Also, 4 x 6V cells will run a 24V motor almost twice as long as two 12V. The size lakes you fish are almost identical to what my brother and I do. You'll be fine. I would consider going with a high-voltage setup (either a Ray or something home made) down the road if you really want the ultimate in green, reliable freshwater fishing --Andy

So I find myself in the minority of anglers, at least on this board, that seem to love Fireline. I've been using it with my Citica and have been more than impressed with it as a jigging setup. I'm building a nice heavy spinning rod setup for shaky worms and fishing through cover. I decided on 10 lb. smoke Fireline. Here's the question... do you think I need to use a mono leader? I haven't had much of a problem with my jigging rod, but that line is crystal. It doesn't seem to be very translucent in the water but the couple of 5+ pounders I hooked in to didn't seem to care. Any input appreciated! --Andy

I believe you've been talking to my brother about our boat, Bad Fish. We use a similar set up. That motor/lower unit looks a little old but if the brushes are good in the motor all you should need is a speed controller, a bank of batteries, and a LOT of spray paint to get going. I'd actually be interested in knowing what lower unit that is and what gear ratio it has. It looks quite old but it has a lot less surface area in the water than what we run. For the record, yes, we are the guys that are excited to see 5.5MPH on the GPS.

I've only recently gotten back into the hobby, so not too much time for a good embarassing moment. My worst probably involves a dark launch ramp, a possibly bored WSSC official (lake cop) waiting on two idiots to come back in the dark, his headlights, and two botched attempts to recover my brother's boat. Like I said, those trailer bumpers bend right back into place...

Well the Gorge proved fickle yet again. We were hoping for a gentle rain storm but got a fast moving storm system. Ended up with one in the boat in about 3 hours, even after throwing the whole tackle box. At least the bilge is clean...

Great lake, if you have the patience to fish it. Like bad fish said... four in the boat in 3 1/2 hours isn't bad, especially post spawn. --Andy
