  1. Waters rising , the canals get rough when the water gets high, all the fish go back into the vast area of flats thats adjacent to the canals. Combine that with the summer heat and you have a rough situation. Travel up the road a bit to Okeechobee, much better.
  2. I fished a tourney Saturday were they lost a 9 3/4 lber at the weigh in, several other bags had a dead fish, in the summer I keep two solid gallon milk jugs full of water frozen solid in each live well and i keep my aerator running all day. I seem to rarely lose fish. Summers hard on them.
  3. Very rare to find them down south, most are domestic. Maybe Holiday Park griffin and US 27, but I would call first.
  4. Virtual fist bump. 8-)
  5. Yes they are native and they also are the number one forage in for bass in most South Florida canals. Back in the days we ate our fish every bass you cleaned had a belly full of crawdads.
  6. First of all in a state laden with world famous bass fishing lakes, south west Florida has probably the least amount of freshwater lakes available, with the exception of Lake Trafford and the canals. If I were you and I wanted to meet Florida bass fisherman i would ether move to where the fish are, or take up salt water fishing, SW Fl. has some of the worlds best. Go to anyone of the major trails held on the central/south central Florida lakes and you'll see up to 70 boats at any given major tournament that are as if not more competitive then the professional trails, not to mention the numerous club events held. trails. Enter one and you'll see many bass people, most likely on the leader board.
  7. Talquin if a beautiful fishery. My best luck at fishing for bass in transition waters is right were it begins to turn fresh, if you can figure out about were the salt water begins to lose it strength, we have some salt water canals that turn fresh as you travel west here in South Florida, I have caught the most bass right were it seems to be a little of both(Just pass 441in Broward).
  8. Of course no tournament, just fun fishing. Probably two of the best days as far as numbers of solid quality fish i have had, the blue gill are bedding and the bass are coming in like packs of wolfs. If I were to take my best 5 fish I would have had 25lbs Saturday and about 20lbs Sunday. But caught at least 20 to 30 bass each day.
  9. You could probably fish one of the streets with all the rain they had.
  10. Agree, another 6 inch's and you'll be all right, the way its rising it will be 12 by the end of the week.
  11. I'm going to Jekyll Island Georgia for a wedding this weekend, should I throw a rod in the truck? Any good bank or shore fishing available?
  12. No recent info. but if i were going I would fish open water deep hydrilla. Check by the fish attractors.
  13. Theres a nice canal west of the turnpike on PGA, its about a mile west maybe less, theres a ramp there but it can be walked from either side efficiently.
  14. Great minds think alike.
  15. For the most part you're correct. however they are pulse pumping out of the lake and have been for the past month, this along with the drought causes the low water. I am one of the few that don't complain the low water is beneficial to health of the lake and when the water returns, like it always does, we will continue to have one of the best fishery's in the country. If the lake wasn't at the low level when hurricane Fay dumped 4 feet of water all over the state the lakes grass and flats would have been destroyed. I love the fishing when the lakes low, however I'm one of the handful of people who know the lake well enough to navigate it without destroying my lower unit, like mentioned above if you dont know the lake stay in the rim ditch. Fishing has been Off The Charts!
  16. If you decide on Lake Toho, which is close to Orlando, Capt Kip Grunlow is a good guide.
  17. I read this book years ago, by Carl Hiasen, if anyone whos into bass fishing hasn't read it their missing out. Its a riot. Everyone will be able to relate.
  18. The lake is dropping faster then I can remember, its gone down a foot in a month. They are pumping like mad.
  19. My friend goes behind the reeds way in the back and poles his way to the holes, he told me he catches some unbelievable sacks. Thats some fishery.
  20. Dont park a nice vehicle at the ramp. Lots of bass never caught the later in there, but i have only been there a couple of times, part of fishing to me is the surroundings, the surrounding there are from from relaxing.
  21. Go to 192 and throw a rock, you'll hit 3 hotels.
  22. If you know how to get out on the Shoal the fish have been gorging on tons of shad from uncle Joes Cut all the way to Chocrans pass, theres 3 problems 1. IS GETTING THERE, the lake is almost at 11 feet, that area is full of rocky reefs and shoals, if you come out of Uncle Joe's canal go out about 1/4 of a mile turn left and parallel the shore, but stay off the shore untill your at least even with Blue Hole, then ease in, theres eel grass at the reed line and the fish are in the eel grass. you'll be in about 2 foot of water. Also try traps out away from shore. 2.THIS IS NO SECRET, the boats are stacked out there and you have a lot of company making the quality fish sparse, you'll be able to get a limit but all the traffic makes it hard luck out on a kicker. 3.THE WIND, The wind has been ripping out of the east making that area hard to fish. There will be fish moving to the Rim Ditch. Its a safe option for someone who isn't experienced in running the lake.
  23. They did when this thread was started, probably not now. Waters dropping. The trick to Istapoka is to keep moving. The week following the above post I made my partner went and came in 3rd at the Elite with 20 lbs, back to what didn't work for us the week prior.
  24. Man I used to love those worms, I didn't think they still made them.
