  1. I used to put in at the the St.Johns off of 50, its a very narrow little river compared to the upper St Johns, but Im sure a fly rod will do you good up there. Or the Loan Cabbage Fish Camp is a little further south, they rent boats.
  2. In my opinion Macks, Grape hammock, Lesters, are true Old Florida Fish Camps, while Okeechobee has plenty of amenities unfortunately there's nothing as cool as they are. Lee give me a holler when you come down Ill put you on some fish.
  3. I'm fishing that tournament as well, what salmicropterus said is dead on. I caught about 50 fish up north last weekend, schoolers I counted 15 consecutive casts with a fish in the 2-to 3 lb range. Be careful the Lakes dropping like mad.
  4. Not really anything like GH and Macks as far as the old Florida vibe, Roland Martins has some nice facility's and is close to the ramps and has slips but its set up a little different then a Fish Camp.Just nice hotel rooms by the lake. Same with Okee Tanti on the north end no fish camp per say, there's a couple of them off the rim canal on the far north end but Iv never stayed at them. J&S is probably the closest thing to a Kissimee style fish camp on Okeechobee. I would suggest a room at Roland Martins or a hotel room in the city of Okeechobee with a 10 minute drive to nice ramps at Okee tanti, and access to nice places to eat. Both have you near excellent fishing .
  5. The Rod and Reel monkey came to bass pro with me yeasterday, I dont remeber inviting him.
  6. I don't think so Shane, in fact its the other way around, their starting to see how Tourney Bass fishing is financially helpful to the community and they see the writing on the wall, as to all the money us nut jobs spend. I never had a problem with FWC they v always been a helpful organization and a friend to the Bass fishery, its the water management sector that they have to deal with to try and make the lakes work. IMO in Florida I feel the most important issue is water level management, I was glad to have a chance to voice my opinion on it.
  7. This was sent to me and seems pretty detailed in its questioning, participation certainly cant hurt. Click on "Survey" http://www.myfwc.com/fishing/
  8. I would have went and visited my daughter during the year she was there if i knew there was good fishing to be had. ;D
  9. When the waters low sink those 13 inch worms in the canals out there you'll catch some Hawgs. Those look like the Old Charlies 13 inch paddle tails, we used to fish them all the time out there. Those Glades fish love them, I'm convinced they eat more snakes then the fish up at the lake, Iv thrown those big worms at Okeechobee till my arm was going to fall off without a hit.
  10. Man I wish they had college bass fishing when i was in college. I might have got a better ejamacation.
  11. Join a bass club as a non boater, the absolute best way to start out.
  12. We kept track of our 5 fish weights for 2 days, 17 one day and about 18 the next with a 5lber that was lost at the boat she would have put us in the 20s. http://s918.photobucket.com/albums/ad22/ra1595/?albumview=slideshow
  13. Mama said there would be day like this.
  14. I was up there for 3 days,I have a tournament Saturday, the front shut them down a little but before hand I was catching some nice fish, keep in mind when I pre fish I leave after catching 2 good fish, so I never really tore them up, but i have a few nice areas for this Saturday.
  15. Its taking 24 lbs just to be in the money, there bringing in some massive sacks of fish. I'm hearing south end.
  16. Steve's always has time to sit and chat at the ramp, a class act.
  17. Alan Zaramba, while specializing in Peacock Bass Alan can put you on some large mouth, I thought him everything he knows. Or just go to 41 on the Alley and throw frogs.
  18. From Kissimee south fish are going to be sitting on beds like mad, all the fronts have been knocking them off, every 2 day warm spell sends them in like mad.
  19. At the bend there's a canal called the magic canal, it borders the l-67A south end of the Holiday park canal. I think its the L 67C You have to off the road and down past the one ramp over a levee, there a crude ramp there and the canal is narrow, it holds some of the biggest bass in the canal system, I weighed a 131/2 lb fish for a guy, and February is the best month the Hogs bed on the coral rocks.
  20. A good visual example would be to look at the hyacinth clogged waters of Florida lakes, along with hydrilla both are exotics and provide a good example of what happens when a species, plant or animal, are introduced to any ecosystem that provides a similar environment. We spend millions trying to curtail the unwanted vegetation. Always look at the long term effect. The freeze did what nature wanted, cleaned a little house.
  21. I cant believe no one has mentioned flippin, I can assure you I have a flipping stick in my hand and I'm searching for matted hyacinth clumped around cat tails of submerged hydrilla.
  22. The actual name is Lake Tohopekaliga. Many things to do nearby as well.
  23. I would stretch that out till May, Okeechobee has some of its strongest big fish spawns late in the season. If its just big bass you want you may want to consider changing the trip to ToHo. While Okeechobee has its monsters its not known for its giant bass, just quantity of 6,7,and 8's.
  24. Okeechobee has an over 18 inch only law.
  25. The waters dropping but its still high, your better off out on the Alley right now, mile marker 41. Iv fished those ditches for 40 years, rule of thumb is the alley first, then Holiday starts heating up as the water drops, with May and April being the peak months. 13 inch worms sunk at the cuts out at 3 Pines and hold on.
