  1. Congrats!!!! One more year and I'm in.
  2. This is it in a nutshell.
  3. I think its what the scale said it is, nice fish young man. Those scales may be off a few ounces here or there but its nice fish and its in that range. One cant tell by photos. Good Job!!!!!
  4. Spyro Gyro was from my home town, Franco, killer group. If we're all taking about the same snot grass its indicative of healthy water. It is hard to fish though.
  5. I had the pleasure of fishing with Shaw about 20 years ago at a fly fishing tournament on lake Okeechobee fishing for Blue Gill. A class act, I have a picture of him standing on my engine. He fished for those Bream like it was the Classic. We were both a lot younger.
  6. Its very important to reel down to the fish before setting the hook when fishing a jig, in other words make sure you have contact with the fish more so than with a worm or craw. Although this should be done with all plastics with a jig its more important. Also make sure the jig your fishing has a good hook, many jigs put crappy wide gap hooks that aren't that strong, the first thing i do with a new jig is make sure that it has a good strong sprout type hook.
  7. 10.09 as of this morning and dropping fast. In the long run it will be better for the lake but it sure puts pressure on the local economy, better low than high in my book. Rainy days are coming and one tropical depression floating over in the summer will fix it.
  8. I already own one, a home I bought in 93 on the north shore of Lake Okeechobee. I actually have to lock through to get into the lake, but I'm 2 minutes from the boat ramp on the Kissimmee River as well. Id love a place in the Keys, or the Gulf, or on Lake Champlain but until I win the lotto I'm going to have to settle for this.
  9. Biting good depends on where, Okeechobee's low as a snake, but fish are biting like mad, Tohos dropping but the fis.h are sick, a 4 day limit weighed 28 lbs last Wednesday. I havent been to Orange or Newnans in years, cut the tip of my finger off in Orange trying to fix a stuck trolling motor, circa 1981 maybe. It drained awhile back but bounced back.
  10. Are you fishing the ramp over the hill or going into L 67 (Holiday)? That magic canal over the brim is off the charts, I cant tell you how many hogs Iv pulled out of there back in the day. Hard to fish with 2 dudes. you have to make long casts in front of the boat due to the narrow nature of the canal. In February on a cool calm day throw a big floating rapala and let it sit for about 3 months and a day, they bed off that coral and sit and watch it, a little twitch and it looks like someone threw a bowling ball on the bait. I weighed a 13 3/4 for a guy once at the ramp. It had eyes like golf balls. Biggest fish Iv seen live.
  11. I watched it, pretty cool, Denny was on some Toads for awhile there. I dont watch fishing shows that much but being injured its helping take the " Jonesin" away.
  12. I'm hoping I should be ready, I'm finding out that physical therapy is the code word for torture. Its going to be a close call.
  13. I caught a fish so big last week the picture weighed 10lbs.
  14. If you want to have some fun out there go jigger-poling at night. A giant strong cane pole with 50 lb mono taped down top the middle with about 2 feet extending past the tip, troll along the banks and splash a big spinner bait or buzz bait back and forth aggressively making as much commotion as possible.. Giant bass will crush it, then hand over hand it in. Back in the day the good old boy meat fisherman used to take sacks of giant bass out of those glades doing this. Before limits were put into place.
  15. To go along with every response that were all spot on, if you travel across 714 in Stuart, go west your about 40 minutes from Okeechobee s North Shore, I have a place in Okeechobee and the GFs mother lives in PSL, its a nice ride that I take often.
  16. You can catch some nice fish but IMO not worth the hassle, bugs, gators, Orlando's a little easier and less swampy, my buddy lives up there and fish's that Wednesday night deal they have at Toho, thats fun, the Glades are not.
  17. Rotator cuff surgery Thursday, I was catching some good fish up off the Airport Hole and off shore out by Kellys hole. But Im out of commission for a couple of weeks, got to get better for a June 2 day.
  18. Theres probably a web site you could find or a fish camp you could call.
  19. The thing about that fish was that it was short, like a little football all belly and girth, when I looked down in the water going to lip him he looked like a 12, I was surprised when I weighed him to only be 9 3/4. Fishindaddy brings up a good point , Bass Beds are small. Right now Bluegill are bedding like crazy, this weekend I noticed the bream bedding on the edges of the Talapias hole like beds. I was trying to quote chipD22 but somehow quoted myself, I fixed it.
  20. With the water as low as it is there's tons of giant fish in that Rim Ditch. Cut 92, Dynamite holes, The football field, Pahokee Rocks, the ledge north of Uncle Joes, The Clewiston Channel, Normans Channel. One could stop pretty much anywhere in there and catch a big sack right now. And like mentioned above if you dont know the lake you better stay in, I ran the lake from Okee Tanti to the south end this weekend, checking out my usual low water spots, one could really mess up if they arent familiar with this lake. I love it.
  21. Droughts and high water have been going on for century's. The rain will come, one tropical depression wll dump a foot and half of rain come rainy season.
  22. One of my best canal baits when the water got low was a 13 inch worm, drug across the top or sunk with a 1/4 ounce weight. Charlies used to make thee big paddle tails, this time of year they were deadly.
  23. The lake bottom is rock hard with very little muck to dredge, 9 out of 10 times stick your rod down and you'll hit shell beds and rock hard sand bottom. The first drought when it hit record lows cleaned out most of the dead vegetation and completely rejuvenated the lake. Truth be told the draw downs are the reason we have this awesome fishery. The rain will come and with it will be acres of cleaned out flats for feeding and spawning. Too high is what kills the lake, not too low. Fishing is still great you just have to know the lake. The bass are roaming like wolves gorging on giant schools of shad and bedding blue gills. Signed: My 2 cents
  24. There's no etched in stone times, especially the further south you go, they were on beds last week heavy and Iv caught spawning fish in May, usually their done by April. They also start early at times depending on the water temps and how good they ate all summer. Of course I'm basing this on Okeechobee which has such a large population of fish, nature spreads it out more so then other smaller lakes so there's less competition.
