  1. I would guess he was flipping or hitting key spots that he might have been aware of. There's always a pattern within a pattern, hence the reason I get a kick out of "Information", to me its useless, if you don't know what little idiosyncrasy ones doing then being near fish that someone told you about is almost useless, unless they went on to tell you this as well, but to my experience somethings always left out.
  2. You have to see if their chasing, sometimes they'll just explode on them, and sometimes you have to stop it at a hole and let it sink. Like any bait the fishes mood dictates the presentation and retrieve. This isn't always the case, many of times the big bags are caught on staging fish. Grouped up females waiting to go in. Either buried under cover or feeding on the outskirts.
  3. Iv been monitoring the levels, its slowly coming down which is normal for this time of year. I doubt we will have a dry summer like last year.
  4. Thanks for giving me something to do between fishing trips.
  5. No sir a Powel frog rod , just got it. I love it. Loads up great.
  6. Went up Monday returned this evening, great week, turned a lot of nice fish. My son kicked my but all week but I got him this morning with this one. Waked like a torpedo on my bait I stopped he stopped 2 cranks and BOOM! I thought him everything he knows, but I didn't teach everything I know
  7. I don't really have any first hand knowledge on the fish kill, however their a normal part of nature and in the Florida swamps with our fast growing season down south, it will replenish in no time at all. Rarely do fish kills wipe out an entire population of fish and as fertile as that lake is I'm sure their still hiding in there. But It is hard to pass up Big O, especially how good its been.
  8. Man I fished Trafford a hundred years ago, used to hold some monsters, it just got to the point where the weeds just took over. We would drive over from Ft Lauderdale, but after getting burned on being able to penetrate the hydrilla we stopped going. I remember me and a friend would scrounge up just enough gas, beer and toll money. At times coming back we couldn't pay to get off the Alley, they would get ticked and make us fill out a form. Back then they hit you coming and going. I think it was like 75cents to show you how broke we were. Signed: Father Time
  9. While I stopped fishing the canals years ago I used to love the L 67 C or better known as the Magic Canal. This time of year until about March those big fish would bed on the coral rocks and I would go down there and have a blast, it was also a very different canal the way it was cut into the flats absent of the levee close by giving you a much different feel. I always thought it was a beautiful canal. That smelly old guy that made the spoons used to camp out there, his spoons were pretty good. I think as far as the best place, time of year would have to be factored in.
  10. With all the rain you guys had this summer I would say an early spawn would be in order, the water temps were cool and the fish fed like mad all summer. I have a tourney on 1-7-11 at Toho Ill be in the skinny stuff like a mad man.
  11. Relax, they'll do fine. They had a good teacher.
  12. Or do you mean the Moore Haven ramp, is so the answer is yes, plenty of room and water to get to the box up the 7 mile canal, if you mean coming from Lake Port I don't know with all the work there, your better off in Moore Haven or Harney Pond.
  13. The Lakeport Locks? I don't know where Sportsman Village is, I know Sportsman channel, the ramp off the rim ditch, can you clarify?
  14. My son and I went out for a couple of days last weekend, he stirred up this one. We had several more in this class I didn't have a camera so the phone had to suffice. The lake is truly a gift from God.
  15. Toads, Dippers, and Big EZs on heavy gear drug on top.
  16. The fishing is insanely good and there's plenty of water, go to Moore Haven and go out the 7 mile canal it will bring you into the Monkey Box which is fairly protected, hopefully you'll be in between fronts on a warming trend. There dredging a 1/4 mile section that will have no effect on anything. In fact it will be great when its done connecting Harney Pond to Mctush channel. Plus 1 on the guide, its a very intemanating lake and a guide will cut you right to the chase and save you some time.
  17. TOHOs a hog factory I wouldn't be surprised.
  18. salmicropterus gave excellant advice, fish it as a section and think of that section as a small lake, otherwise it will overwhelm you. Also remember a tournaments been won pretty much everywhere on the lake at one time or another. So have confedance everywhere. Learn its depth and how it fishes, imagine a saucer, the outer edge being the deeper part traveling towards the rim ditch being the edge of the saucer. One other point cover a lot of water within the little section you pick, although its one of the biggest lakes in the country the fish will be in a little 30 yard by 30 yard section not a mile long stretch.
  19. My kids grew up in Valrico, its not far from the rock pits in Polk county.
  20. Moonshines dept is OK at 14, problem is how it came back, this lake comes back different every time the water goes down and up again, if it cleared out a little it may be a place to check. Its been so overgrown but lots of times the low water kills a lot of grass. I may try to get over that way today, if the old lady ever finishes getting ready so I can drive to the lake and fish. Remind me again why we like them. Oh yeah.
  21. Timing is everything. When you find them chasing and eating its a blast. Glad you had fun.
  22. Staging in the deeper water adjacent to the spawning grounds getting ready to move in.
  23. The fishing never got bad, its just how we get them is what changes. I hope it doesn't go over 14, too high ruins all the grass and muddys it up. I remeber when they used to keep 17-18 it was a big mudbowl. Bocabasser what weight won that?
  24. Right on Piscicidal! Those are good tournament fish, you had a nice weight without having a monster, all you needed was a big kicker and you would have been right there. You were right there with all the names you mentioned. The only difference between you and them is they fish more. I know the partner of a guy you mentioned and they lucked out at the last hour with a big fish and barley beat you.
