  1. Not all people fish with Avids or are given gear to use and write reviews about. I say if you like it, and it works for you, go have fun, regardless of price.
  2. It's all I use on every rod, just different pound tests. I use the clear blue fluorescent because it's easy to see, especially when fishing a worm or jig. I've tried braid and FC lines, just never cared for them. I'm not a tourney fisherman, so I try to keep it simple, lol.
  3. I tried to find it on their website, but at Sportsmans Warehouse I bought an empty precision oil bottle in their fly fishing dept. I fill it with the oil of my choice. I'll keep looking and post back here if I find it lol.
  4. Don't have the Optimus LTE, but do have an Optimus X, XT, and Primmus. They are very good reels. You can find the LTE on Amazon right now for about 90 bucks right now.
  5. We want micro guides to "funnel" the line through the guides, which would seem to create more friction by the line making more contact with the guides, right? But, and I mean this part half jokingly, we praise Daiwa's TWS for better free flow of line off the spool thereby eliminating friction of line make contact with the line guide. Now, I know the TWS has more to do with reducing the angle the line comes off the spool, but I hope y'all know what I'm getting at, lol. I honestly don't know what "line slap" is, never seen it or heard it on a casting rod in about 30 years of bass fishing. I have one micro guide rod, honestly my distance is less than traditional guides and I seem to "hook" my casts to the side of my target. Just my opinion.
  6. Fishing is a hobby. Family is everything. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
  7. I've read lots of conflicting reports, does anyone know if the new Zillions are the exact same size as the Tatula? Some say yes, some say no.
  8. I would look at the power of the individual rods. I know they are both mediums, but the Lightning Rod is a pretty stiff rod, IIRC. I like a rod with a little power in the tip, that makes it easier for me to make a jerk bait "dance". A really limber rod works me to death fishing a jerkbait, lol. But, I think though that the Lightning Rod, being stiffer, will end up with some lost fish due to jerkbaits being treble hook lures. For me a jerkbait rod is something with a little more power than a crankbait rod, but not as stiff as, say, a spinnerbait or worm rod. From handling both in the stores, I think the Cherrrywood would give you enough tip to not work yourself too much getting the right action from a jerkbait, but not so stiff the hooks will pull out of the fish.
  9. I have 3, the oldest being about 4 years old and no problems. Catch 'em on sale, even better. No offense to anyone who has the Extremes or Bionic Blades (regular, non micro), I've had all 3 and for prefer the Carbon Lite.
  10. I have that same rod, that little rod is fun to fish using light poppers, small jerkbaits, and smaller crankbatits!
  11. Had you cut and re-tied a lot? Been a while since I used one of these, but seems like they did this if the spool was not full.
  12. I have the 7ft. heavy I won here a few years ago. It's an awesome rod, well built, very light. But the ACS handle is what keeps me from buying more. If not for that, I would replace every rod I own with them.
  13. How much force does it really take to "flex" a frame or side plate? If the frame is aluminum, the only internal thing making contact with the side plate is the crankshaft and where the spool shaft runs through the pinion gear. It's not like the gears are connected to the side plate. So the only pressure exerted from a heavy load would be from pressure from the spool. Just my opinion, but I think we make too much of this. I'd rather have a somewhat lighter reel with an aluminum frame and graphite side plates that a heavy reel that I find uncomfortable to fish with. Or maybe I ain't catching bass big enough to flex my reel, LOL.
  14. I've used one for going on two years. No problems. Casts light and heavy baits easily. Set the VBS and go fish. It actually has gotten smoother with use. It's a good, workhorse reel.
  15. I've had one for two years. Not had a single issues. It cast light lures very well. It's one of those "set it and forget it" type reels. Set the VBS, adjust cast control know and go fish. For a "5 bearing reel" it's very smooth. If you read the reviews and whining since the G came out, you probably think it will blow up in your hand, lol, but it's a fine, workhorse reel.
  16. BPS Carbonlite. You can find them on sale for $79 several times a year.
  17. The T-wing on Daiwa baitcasters got me thinking. I know it has more to do with the angle of the line coming off the spool, but it's also supposed to reduce friction from the line against the line guide. So, why couldn't the same argument be made of micro guides creating more friction? In the future, after micro guides have become pretty much standard, will it shift back to "larger guides to reduce friction"? As far as line slap against the rod, as long as I've been fishing, I've never seen or heard my line slap against my rod. I think micros are kind of like lures, they've caught as many fisherman as they have fish I meant some of that as tongue-in-cheek, but honestly it depends on the rod. If I like it, it doesn't matter what kind of guides it has. I've had rod's with both, and couldn't really tell a difference, other than a very slight weight reduction.
  18. Try cleaning the break race then put a very small amount of oil back on it.
  19. I have a 7ft heavy Perfecta I won in a drawing here at BR a few years ago. It's an awesome rod. Very light weight for it's length/power, cork is first class, fit and finish is impeccable. The only thing that keeps me from buying more is the ACS reel seat, it's just not comfortable to me. If Pinnacle ever changes the reel seat, I'll buy a bunch of 'em.

  21. I have a Curado G6, it's a fine reel. Caught a 5 pounder on it the other day, it didn't explode or anything . It will cast just as far as my Lew's TP and Okuma Serrano. If I recall the drop in bearings from the E to the G were in the handle. For a "5 bearing reel" it's very smooth. The line guide is SIC in the G series, which is good enough material for rod guides so to me it's not an issue. Especially considering you can get them NIB on the auction site for $125-$130.
  22. duo lock type snaps for me, no swivels.
  23. If you are talking about the casting model, I have the 6'6"ML. I use it for small cranks, jerkbaits, and poppers. The lightest baits I have tried are 3/16oz. It's a fun little rod to fish.
  24. Watched the video this morning. Awesome. A lot of pride went in to those reels. I wonder what those early ABU employees would think about the Revo line?
  25. I use a 6'9" MH extra fast Carbonlite. It's handled bass up to 6lbs.
