  1. The Metanium and whatever NRX you choose would make a very nice combo.
  2. I think casting with FC sucks! I have to tighten the cast control knob more than I like and instead of 2 brakes on I will use 3 and I generally have to use a heavier lure than I like.
  3. I bought a couple of the J Francho jigs in 3/8oz with the Bama Craw a couple weeks ago. It's a good looking jig and I am looking forward to using them.
  4. Like I said in my earlier post, I like the Loomis fast actions better than the extra fast. If I was using a 3/16oz bullet weight with just a Trick Worm or a Rage Tail Craw, I am going to use my NRX802. I know of another member that told me that he uses his 802 with 1/4oz. I assume he meant 1/4oz plus the plastic. Anything heavier and he goes to the 803.
  5. Loomis use to make a Flippin Rod with a Mod Fast Tip.
  6. If you are going to fish the heavier weights that you mentioned, I would get the 853.
  7. Sharp looking reel Hootie! Can't wait for a report on how it performs!
  8. Dont forget the JDM variants in the Shimano 50 lineup. The Scorpion XT1000 and the Aldenaran MG and MG7.
  9. That would make an already great day a whole lot greater!
  10. Siebert Outdoors
  11. Post pics when it arrives! BTW Hootie, welcome to the Dark Side! LOL
  12. I am still testing the waters as far as jigs are concerned. A 3/16oz Finesse Jig with a Rage Baby Craw trailer, a Medium/XF Loomis. A 3/8oz jig with a Rage Baby Craw Trailer, hopefully a MH/F Loomis and a 3/8oz jig with a Rage Craw trailer, a H/F Loomis. It's amazing what the size of the trailer can do to the overall weight and profile of a jig.
  13. Using braid solves your line capacity issues. For lure weight, anything normal. A full size Spook, heavy jig etc.
  14. You need two different rods if you want to use an 1/8oz all the way to 3/8oz. Maybe 3 rods depending how big your plastic is with the 3/8oz. I have the NRX802C and I use to have the BCR802C and IMHO, there is no way you are fishing a 3/8oz bullet weight with these rods. If you stick to the 1/8 to 3/16oz, I would go with the 852. I have never used the 852 but I know that it will handle the lighter weights better than the 853. My guess is no, the 853GLX will not load properly with an 1/8oz weight. I don't even like how my NRX802 loads with an 1/8oz but it's definitly better than my NRX803. I originally tried a 1/8 finesse jig with trailer with my 802 and with FC, I did not like how it loaded and casted. A 3/16oz is much better. If I were going to use a 5/16 to 3/8oz weight, I am using my MBR844. I'll be honest with you, I prefer the old MBR Fast Action rods to to the BCR and NRX Extra Fast. I think a rod that you may want to consider is the great, old reliable, tried and true MBR843GLX. I have the IMX and it's just a fantastic rod.
  15. 5/0 Gamakatsu EWG for Super Flukes
  16. This is the beautiful bass that Intex Raft Bum is talking about. Caught on a Scrounger Head w/10# line in heavy timber w/a spinning reel.
  17. Thank you! A little bit about this catch.......I thought that he was going to die because he was bleeding and he had the hook in his gullet. I had to cut the line and reach up through his gills and rotate the hook downward and push it out. It only pushed out without a fuss because I ALWAYS smash the barb down on my T-Rigged hooks with a pair of pliers. I pushed the hook out and held him in the water for about 8-10 seconds and he swam off with no issues.
  18. Have you tried Super Flukes?
  19. A Super Fluke is a pretty heavy and dense bait. I'm not saying that I am out there casting into a 30mph headwind, but if it's not to windy to fish, I am using casting gear and I don't even own any spinning gear for bass so I always use casting gear.
  20. That I actually use on a regular basis, 1 reel brand (Shimano) and 1 rod brand (Loomis).
  21. I use casting gear all the time on windy days and I have no problem with little jerks, drags, tugs, pulls etc using casting gear. This little guy fell to a Bluegill Flash Fluke.
