I am looking for anglers in the Shawano-Clintonville-New London area. Green Bay, Appleton, and anywhere else in the surrounding area will work too. Me and some buddies would like to get a relaxed bass club going but we need to find a couple more potential members to make it worth-while. Amen! We got lots of toothy northern up here that just love frogs and one bite and they are either gone or full of holes and rendered useless. I just use the plastic variety on a 4/0 EWG worm hook. They are cheap and the bass love to nab them when they sink off a lilly pad or scum patch. I use my 7' Med Croix with 40lb power pro and have no problems pulling them out of the thickest slop I can find.

Thanks for all the responses guys, this was exactly what I am looking for. I am planning on expanding my arsenal a little more and wanted some ideas for some new lures that I haven't tried yet and you guys have given me some ideas. Also I didn't want to break the bank so I figured that a $75 dollar limit would keep things in check. Keep 'em coming guys

I just want to see how differently everyone responds. Sorry if this has been done before but I could not find anything in search. Heres the scenario: Your away from home on a fishing trip and your tackle is all gone, well you still have all your terminal tackle so you don't need to buy that. Lucky you your poles and line, etc. are still there. You have 75 bucks to buy lures, what do you buy for fishing in any number of the different lakes you will be going to on your trip. Restrictions, just lures, no terminal tackle. Please include colors and sizes as well. ~Thanks~

Making sure your line isn't nicked and your knot is good is very important. As for drag I usually keep mine spun down right tight. If i hook into a larger fish I might back it off just a smidgen but when your fishing in dense cover letting a hog pull drag will usually let him dive in the weeds or wrap around structure. This may not be an option if you are fishing with lighter tackle though, I usually use 30-40 lb braid when in the thick stuff.

Oh it was thick alright, I guess for all future tellings of the story the weight has now been upgraded to 5 lbs ;D Heres another pic of it, it shows the girth a little bit better and also shows how nice the coloring was. All the fish we pulled up had beautiful bright greens and yellows in them. Even th northern were fat and had vibrant colors. We did a very quick length measurement and it came out to be around 19 inches Heres a snap of one of the two nice northern we caught. This one was the smaller of the two (about 28 inches), the larger one did not want to stick around to be measured or photographed as he jumped out of the boat before we could get to it.

I went out fishing with my fiance's uncle and we started off casting some submerged weed beds trying to stir up some muskie. We boated a couple nice northern and a bunch of not so nice ones and no muskie, but thats life. After we were done hunting big game we moved over to a massive lily pad/scum patch to throw some frogs and see what we could find. We fished there for about 2 hours and caught a bunch of dinks, but nothing of any size. Then the phone call came and it was time to go home, so next fish was declared and we prepared for our last couple casts. After getting a few taps on my Bull Frog Sizmic Toad I managed to go barbs deep into this nice slap of a fish: Sadly I forgot my scale at home so we had to guess, we decided....around 4 lbs, giver'take

I bought some because they were decent priced and I did not see any significant changes. They do look cool in the water but the ones I had did not hold the red very well.

I wouldn't have bought them if they were not on sale. 6 bucks for 4 soft "plastic" frogs is outrageous and once they are gone I'm sure ill switch back to the 3 bucks for 6.

Swings are always free, unless your fishing in stumps and submerged timber... Then swings usually cost a trip to shore

Thanks Sam, He defiantly knows the lake best, hes out there a couple times a week and I've only been there 3-4 times and that was a long, long time ago. As for the 1/2 in front 1/2 in back I'm not sure. I'm sure we will be able to get some of this stuff straight later this week, He's pretty much family so we don't have to worry about communication at all. I defiantly plan on trowing something else if hes tossing spinners in order to try and find what the fish are doing. For the most part I'm just happy I found someone who wants to enter the tourney with me and he has a nice boat to boot so I'm sure were going to have a great time, But I wouldn't mind winning some money while we are at it

I haver been a lot of fishing Sizmic toads lately and have had some very nice fish with them. This weekend my last toad met its untimely demise so I had to replenish the stocks. When I went to the local fleet farm I found that they did not have anymore of these treasures on there shelves so I started looking around. In the clearance bin i found 8 bags of Gulp Bat wing frogs that were marked at 50% off. So for $2.75 a bag I bought all of them, 3 different colors. I was pretty happy about finding this deal but have not had a chance to get out and use them yet. My question is are these things actually worth the extra money (when bought at full price ) when compared to a bag of unscented plain old $2.50 for 8 Sizmic toads? I forgot to add, the areas that I use them in are completely matted in scum, often times only scattered with garbage can lid sized pockets of open water here and there.

I'm interested to find out how some of you would approach this situation. In about a month I am going to be fishing in a local tourney with someone I have never fished with on a lake that I haven't fished in almost ten years. This is just a little local tourney but is going to cost us about 250 together and usually draws quite a few boats 50-100+. Its has some nice pay-outs as well as a very nice top prize for combined weight of the entire boat. I have not fished in a tourney in a very long time and just want to get everything I can out of this experience because I am planning on getting into the local tourney scene in the coming seasons. I am going out for the first time with him later on in the week to get a little more familiar with the lake as well as well as get a feel for his style of fishing. From talking with him and some of the people he usually fishes with I have gathered that he likes to burn spinner baits along a couple different strips and submerged weed beds. He is mostly fishes for muskie but is very familiar with the waters. My only concern is that he doesn't fish plastics at all and is missing lots of quality spots because of it. I want to make sure that we have the best chance for boating enough quality fish to contend but I do not want to step on any toes doing so. Hes a real easy going guy and I'm sure he will be open for changing it up but I want to be sure that we are getting the best fish we can for what conditions are there. I have no problem with burning cranks and spinners to try and get on a pattern but if we don't get on the fish how would you go about getting the boat into the right spots so that we can do so. Obviously I will be fishing the back of the boat and I mostly fish plastics when I can. If you have any suggestions or advice about this situation please feel free to chime in.

This past weekend I came across quite a deal at wal-mart. I found cardinal 302 on a 7' Fenwick Venture medium action rod for 60 bucks. I was in the market for a new set-up so I picked it up and must say I am quite impressed. Neither the rod or reel are top of the line but they perform quite nicely for a 60 dollar combo. So if your a beginner looking for a good starting set-up or need a decent spinning combo for an even better price I suggest stopping in at your local wal-mart and seeing if they have any in stock. Forgot to add that Abu Garcia has a 10 dollar mail-in rebate on all reels and combos at the moment.
