  1. The ice here on the bay of quinte is looking a little thin too! I can not wait for fishing season. I had just moved up here to belleville from Bewdley (ricelake) and I'am just dying to learn this lake. I just bought a new (well new to me) skeeter bass boat, that Im working on restoring the inside just to keep me going until I Can actually put her in the water! Im not sure where Im going to buy my carpet but thats next on the list. Its a 1986 starfire with a yamaha 150 pro-v and the whole rig is nearly mint condition besides the carpet and a little fiberglass work near the left rod locker. Do anything to keep your self occupied and fishing season will be here before you know it!
  2. Alright, thanks guys
  3. Making fishing tackle has always interested me, but I have never been taught how to do so, or even have a clue where to start. I was thinking about making plastic baits, but im not sure how much needs to go into it, and/or the process of doing so. I have access to my own garage, (a pretty big one) and fishing is my main hobby when im not working, so it seems I can get pretty bored out in the country when I cant be on the water, I dont see a better way of spending some time than making some lures, If someone could point me in the right direction I would really apreciate it.. And yes, Im more than willing to invest enough money into this to make Qaulity tackle ofcourse.
  4. Thanks guys, I'll definately have to pick some up
  5. Trust me I know this. I continue to fish regardless as long as I know im not hurting the bass population. If it was two weeks prior, I wouldent have been out. I study the bass in my lake very closely, the fry has hatched.
  6. Sometimes when fishing pressured areas such as marina docks or shoreline docks you need to flip the fish smaller downsized baits for them to respond, whether thats a small jig or simply dead sticking a wacky rigged sinking worm/minnow. I even have a seperate tube collection for docks only.
  7. Nice, are you from the Rice lake area? I always practice catch and release, but ofcourse MNR are still very strict about fishing for them this time of year. I usually walleye fish until this time, the eggs have already hatched and 95% of the females are back in deep water for a couple weeks. As long as you release the bass quickly and safely I dont mind spawn-post-spawn bass fishing.
  8. You mentioned there is an offshore hump.. I would use spinner baits / crank baits around this area, it has potential to hold big fish with the access to deep water and bait fish always in the area. Chances are you will find a good mix of smallmouth and largemouth here if your lake has both species. Otherwise you did a good job by the sounds of it, it sounds like the fish are schooling in your area, which is typical post spawn behaviour after the female leaves and the male is finished gaurding the fry. Or you may be hitting the gaurding males, which are usually smaller than the females, who at this point are recouperating in deeper water, so they require a slow presentation if you want to get bites from them. When bass school usually you will find fish the same size in one area. So don't be afraid to change things up.
  9. Thats True Ive caught many walleye while smallmouth fishing, and same goes for the smallmouth ive caught while walleye fishing
  10. Nice catch, Im curious how deep that pond is?
  11. I woke up this morning at 5:30 to go fishing on Rice lake Located south of peterborough Ontario Heres a link for some information about Rice Lake, It does have constant fishing pressure which makes it tough at times, but with the right baits and presentations you can get great results, which is why its been a main-stay for many tournament trails in canada. Including the CFT, B.a.s.s Masters, ect. << www.ricelakeinfo.com >> << www.ricelakecanada.com >> Managing to get to the water by 6am. My original plan was to throw a soft jerkbait (berkleys realstix shad imitation) in the shallows and hope for a somewhat top water action, but nothing wanted to take it. So I looked to my right and noticed a Large concrete shoreline (concrete drop off) I than added some weight to the jerk bait by using a traditional tube head inside the jerkbait, I than decided to crawl the jerkbait almost like a tube than Wham! Caught myself some real nice smallmouth. I than continued along my favourite top water stretch " The Cedars" and caught a Mammoth off of a Cavitron Buzzbait Check out some of the pictures -Check out the concrete drop, Anybody home? ;D http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/3797/4891415681330qe4.jpg - This Fat Smallie was home and devoured berkleys realstix jerkbait. (shad pattern) http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/8859/4891428865330uf6.jpg - Another decent bronzeback after the Jerkbait, this one a little further down shoreline http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/2651/4891483009330il7.jpg Time for some Topwater Cedar Trees - Someone wanted a side order of Buzzbait http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/5808/4876496129330ev2.jpg - Mmmm more Buzzbait to go around http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/9300/4891444993330pn5.jpg Anyways I wanted to stay out longer but after 3 hours or so and almost 8 decent fish the trolling motor died on me :'( thats what you get for forgetting to charge batteries. Owell, its not big deal. The lake is only 30 seconds away from the house, So We'll see what tommorow brings >
