  1. Anybody round here ever fished Kincaid Lake in Central LA. Got my first club tourney on it Feb. 7th and I have never fished it before. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  2. Yes! Yes! Yes! I normally try and stay away from all the "big" name people and baits and look for something different. For instance, if KVD says use sexy shad color strike king cranks, I dont just becasue I know about a billion fisherman are going to be throwing it and I want something different. not saying that they dont work, but I like the undr-the-radar stuff. 8-)
  3. Well, I've caught all the typical animals such as turtles, gators, ect. and clothing such as shirts, shorts, ect. Strangest tho would have to be the time my cousin and I caught 14 bull frogs on zoom centipedes. We took them home and ate frog legs for supper that nite. We actually hooked 16, but two of them broke our line after gators swam done the hooked frogs.
  4. 2009 Fishing Goals: 1. Be Angler of the Year in my Fishing club 2. Catch my PB Largemouth (over 8lbs) 3. Learn to use my electronics to locate fish 4. Stop wasting time in unproductive water or unproductive baits!! 5. Win more money than I spend in tourneys
  5. Personally, I would agree that tying a leader is just another thing to go wrong for simply pitching. The only time I tie on a floro leader is if I am throwing a C-Rig, all other times, I just pitch with braid #50.
  6. Ive had a lot of success with the Bass Assasins, but most of the time, Im with roadwarrior, i throw the original slug-go.
  7. I purchased an Accurist when they first came out about eight or nine years ago I guess. It held up well for me considering all the junk I put that thing through as a teenager, but it still works today. The only complaint I have with them is they are not very smooth with casting or reeling, but they will launch a bait a long ways. For $60 , you cant really complain, I would have bought it too!! ;D
  8. St. Croix is a respectable company as I have two Premiers and I love them. I am not a big fan of the split grip, but if I was, I would definetly try the Mojo out. It looks great, just not for me! :-/
  9. I normally put on green line on my flippin stick and fish clear lines on everything else, thats just me though!
  10. I rig a Ribbit and follow with a 5 in senko in the same color!!
  11. I think that the PB&J color just hangs more than any other color. Peanut Butter is some sticky crap!! LOL Nah, I rarely fish football jigs in heavy cover because I always seem to loose em all. They just tend to hang more than other lures. I have no experience with the evo jigs, so cant comment there, but jigs in general hang, and its a pain.
  12. thanx catt for all the help, I am goin up to the bend mid febuary and will try and find some pre-spawners around Sam Miguel and old 1215 area!!
  13. Me personally, I LOVE the Lake Fork Tackle Magic Shad. Its a soft plastic swimbait that can be deadly when reeled slowly over the top of hydrilla or other grasses. Its only like 6 bucks per pack and each pack comes with four plastics!! ;D
  14. O.K. Catt, question for ya... As I said earlier, I have a club tourney on March 7th. Now, I know that the spawn starts in north toledo and moves south, so on average, where on hte lake are the fish spawning this time of year, and do you fish spawners in shallow water with adjacent deep water, or do you focus on deep fish this time of year also? Thanx P.S. I love this forum and I appreciate anything and everything you have helped me with on the bend!!
  15. Im in!! Ill take that thing in mid Feb. right before matt...lol
  16. No doubt...East Texas, Fork specfically. I go there every year round that time and we catch numbers and size. Great all around lake and by that time you can pretty muck catch fish on anything you wish to throw!!
  17. This place is the most addictive fishing forums of the web, but I only got internet at work, so not on near as much as would like to. :'(
  18. I go to Fork every March and because of money I have never hired a guide. I always ask local bait shops what the fish are doing to get a basic idea of where the fish are staging or spawning. I have always had success, but some years have been tougher than others. If you cant get a guide, I would recommend to ask locals and base your 1st day off of what they say, whether it be spawn or pre-spawn. Also if there are any fish moved up shallow, NEVER rule out water too shallow. Last year I caught fish behind the grass in less than 8 inches of water. Caught quinity and quality. If fish isnt shallow or you just rather fish deeper, target the mouths of creeks such as Dale Creek or Little Mustang and target isolated stumps near the channel. I lost a double digit fish doing that two years back :'(. Jigs and Lake Fork Tackle Live Magic Swim Baits are a must!!!
  19. Im a huge fan of Suffix!!! New Flouro sounds great and I have been lookin for something to put on my crankin stick!!!!! Does anyone know when these will hit stores??
  20. One time a buddy of mine and I were fishing a spot that he had caught a lot of fish in hte day prior. He had told me if I wanted to catch any fish, I had to go buy a LC Live Pointer. I intended on doing so, but it slipped my mind that day. The next day, I threw a Zoom Fluke and actually caught more on it than he did on his $20 bait. he was angry at me for a while, but in hte end, he ended the day with a nice 9.4lber. But if I had to do it all over again, I would throw a Zoom Fluke!!! By the way, I have NO baits over $10! But I also have NO money!! I just got married last week!! haha
  21. I was not convinced that scents worked until last year me and a buddy were both fishing Bandit 200 series Tenn. Shad color cranks and we caught something like 60 fish stacked up in the current running out of a huge colvert. I caught like ten before he even caught his first. the only difference was BANG shad scent. I was using it and he wasn't. And curious me wanted to know if it was really the scent or if my bait had a tweak his was lacking. I gave him the scent and he began to catch the same number of fish I was catching. We pretty much halved from there on out!!! But I admit, I wouldn't believe it unless I saw it and I did. Now wether it actually attracted them or just covered my scent, I dont know, but I do know that whatever it did, it WORKED!!
  22. Considering I only live an hour and a half from there, I will definetly be there at least one day, but hopefully two! Sundays out of hte question for me because I work at a church, so kinda have to be there!!!
  23. Im all about fishin the bend around March! I got a club tourney on the 7th of March and I would love to see know some early spawn/pre-spawn patterns on the lake. I have fished the lake quite a bit in the past, but most of my fishing knowledge for toledo is during the summer months! Also, is there anyone fishing in the top 6 or best six this year. Rumor has it that this may be the last year of the top 6 and they will join back with the ALBC and go back to just one big tourney!!
  24. well, I dont think that this has been mentioned yet, but I have found that Bass feel more secure under low light and/or no light, meaning they may roam more an not hold so tight to cover. My most effective night fishing technique has got to be fishing weed lines with a jitterbug or buzzbait on one rod. If I happen to get hit and not hook up then I opt for my second rod with a lake fork tackle 5.5 inch swim bait. This change of pace and the lure being under teh surface tends to pull a second strike from the fish. Just my two cents...
  25. Well, considering I'm in pretty much the same situation, 20, student/worker, but also engaged, I'll throw in my two cents. WAIT! Loans will eat you alive. They say the number 1 problem for college students today is debt. Is there any old boat in your family you can use? Thats what I do. I have a 1954 14ft. jon boat with a evinrude 6hp motor. It works for now until I can save up money to pay cash for a decent boat. Thats just me though.
