  1. Also St. Croix Premeire Crankbait rods are great for the price. $100 for a Premeire rod...sounds like you need at 7' MH fast.
  2. Catt, I got a club tourney on the Bend March 6th, and the Best 6 the first weekend in May. If ya dont mind helping a brother out, I would appreciate any tips ya got as I will be prefishing for both and trying out some new stuff that I have learned from this thread. Thanks! P.S. If you want a fishing partner any this spring just let me now!
  3. Well, Im from central LA, but Lake Concordia shouldn't be too far from you. There are alot of big fish caught out there early spring. Jigs and Spinnerbaits should be your best friend until May. Also the Achafaliya and Red River are pretty good. If you can make the trip up to Toledo Bend it is well worth it, just ask Catt!! ;D
  4. 1. Topwater 2. t-rig 3. spinnerbait/cranks
  5. 1. Reading electronics...apparently no one can do that 2. Fishing water 10+ ft. 3. Carolina Rig/Drop shot/Shakey Head
  6. same thing going on here... I wish I would have bought a couple at $25 but too late now!!
  7. Im with RW...I want to see something and I might give it a try!!
  8. I bought one of these yesterday at the BPS in Dallas...its a great feeling rod and very light. I bought the 7' MH moderate action and gonna try and use it for cranks. I figured it was only 100$ so I couldn't go wrong.
  9. I would stay away from Caney just because it is so hard to fish. There are lots of big fish in there, but now that the grass is gone, you almost have to have good electronics to find any fish at all. Toledo is always a good choice because you can at least catch something on your favorite bait in your favorite water depth. It all depends on what part of LA you live in. If you live in central LA like I do, then I would recommend Saline/Larto. I have been catching pretty good numbers and size out there lately. Also, Cane River is hard to beat. there are just so many good fisheries here in Louisiana its hard to choose.
  10. Cant go wrong with a St. Croix Premiere or Mojo, Falcon Original or Lowrider, but wheres the love for some Castaway SLX3. I have one and absolutely love it. Also, I have a Fish Eagle II and I am very impressed with it, very strong and sensitive. At the end of the day, I would probably buy the mojo.
  11. Glad to see another Devillian on here. I have lived in Deville my whole life. Grew up on Saline. Saline is really muddy right now and most of your bigger fish are going to be on the Larto side of the lake right now because the water is deeper over that way. Had a tourney there a couple weeks ago and the top three places all fished larto and the winner caught a 6lb 5oz bass over there. Now Kincaid on the other hand is difficult. I heard someone caught a 12lber out there last week, but not sure if it is true. The water is crystal clear and you will have to find deep grass to find good bass. Idle around the lake until you see grass in 10+ft. of water and then fish it thoroughly. Thats the only way I've ever caught fish out there. Good luck to you and I hope this helps!
  12. I just bought an 89 Basscat Pantera II with a Johnson 140. That things runs great and I love it. Its a couple steps up from my old 12ft. ALUM with a 1954 Evenrude 6hp.
  13. I fished Friday, Saturday, and even took Sunday off at church and fished in the Top Six tourney this weekend. Fished Lanan Friday and caught seven with top five wieghing 16lbs. So, not a bad day, but I knew it was going to take more to win. Saturday I fished Solan's and caught one weigh fish while watching two guys reeling them in left and right. I thought I was doing the same things they were, but apparently not. Sunday I went back to Solan's determined to catch those fish I knew were there. I didn't boat a fish and my partner caught 1 keeper. It was tough for us, but Im pretty sure we messed up by fishing shallow. The fish are aparently in post spawn and have moved back out. I would tell yall the hot baits, but I dont know of any. I eliminated about 983 baits that they weren't biting on!! ;D
  14. Well, I looked at the forecast again and Catt, you're right, the weather is supposed to be perfect. And Wesley, thanks for the insight on what to throw. I will probably throw some early and late topwater with senko and swimbaits throughout the day. I'll let yall know how it went next week. Oh and by the way, the reason I didn't post my last report form the Bend was because I was a little embarassed too, but this is it... I got out on the water early Friday, March 6th, to prefish for my club tourny the next day. I caught a total of eleven fish with my biggest going maybe 3lbs, but around 4 that evening I got my trolling motor hung inside a hollow stump. I had to get out of the boat and pick the boat up and when I did the whole trolling motor ripped off the bow. I was ticked, so I went back to the truck to fix it for the next day. When I got back to my truck I had a stupid flat tire and so I crawled underneath to get the spare. Then I realized the cable that holds my spare had rusted i half and somewhere along the way I lost my spare. I live like 2 1/2 hours from Toledo, but luckily my buddy was prefishing up the lake. I called him and he came and picked me up and brought me to get my tire fixed. By this time everyone around was closed, so I had to plug the tire myself and never got time to mess with the trolling motor, so I fished in the tourney the next day with no trolling motor in 25 mph winds. I ended up with two fish, 4.4 lbs. The worst fishing trip of my life!
  15. Well, I'll be up on the Bend this weekend and I may need a fishing partner for Saturday! I am thinking about fishing Lanana area. I am hoping the weather is better than forecasted, but regardless, I'll be there. Are the fish pretty much in full swing of the spawn now?
  16. Alright, now I have bought a Eagle Fish Mark 320 and a Humminbird 565. Any opinions on which I should mount up front and which I should mount by the steering wheel. I am leaning toward the 565 up front for fishing and the Fishmark 320 for running?
  17. Well, I've got a club tourney at Toledo this weekend and I have yet to fish it this year. I will be heading up htere Friday and fishing all day and then the tourney Sat. Any advice on what to look for or certain things that are holding fish right now? Also, Catt do you know if there are any spawners yet?
  18. I've used Marine Goop and it worked great for me. I love that stuff!
  19. Well, it sounded good and all but the truth is that her mom gave us her old couch, so we didn't have to buy one. ;D So, technically we did buy a boat before we bought a couch, but it sounds better to leave out the whole free couch thing. And yes, Im not stupid, I know better than to say something that will send me to the couch :. But I agree with R@ngerman, I need to get her hooked now!!
  20. Just got married in January and I told the wife before we bought a couch, we were going to buy a boat. Im in college, so Im not exactly what you would call rich, so money is tight. I managed to find a 1989 18 1/2 ft. Basscat Pantera II with a Johnson 140 for $2,700. It is all in good shape and the motor runs great. Has compression on all cylinders and I ran it at about 55 mph. All I have to do is rewire teh bilge and areators, the wiring is very old. I also bought a Hummingbird 565 to mount on the front. Has a two year old MK 70 lb foot control trolling motor too!! I'm excited and cant wait for March 7th for our club tourney on Toledo Bend!!!
  21. When I was looking at buying a trolling motor, the one thing that caught my attention was that the Minn Kota had an ascending accleration meaning that if you have it set on 100 and hit the pedal, it wont just take off and throw you out of your seat. It has been really nice and mine is a 70 lb MK. The Motor Guides, at least at that time didnt have that feature.
  22. well, I fished friday and me and a buddy of mine caught three on a baby brush hogs and mine was a little over 3 lbs, so I felt comfortable going into saturday. Saturday morning I rode over to the bank where we caught our three and my buddy was already on that bank >, so I ran across the lake and didn't get a bite all day. My buddy won the tourney on that bank with a lil over 9lbs. There were like 36 people fishing and only 6 or 7 caught a single fish, so I dont EVER plan on fishing Kincaid again. One guy even said he wouldn't care if they drained it and built a Wal-Mart there!! ;D
  23. iclass, I always hear people catching fish in shad lake, but I have never had any success there. How do you fish that part of the lake, do you fish the lily pad stubble, creeks, or up in hte button woods. I fish there all the time, but never catch fish >. The only place I catch fish in that area is Long Branch, but as for shad lake, apparently I do something wrong.
  24. sorry, not iclass, but I do live on Saline/Larto and that is the lake I grew up fishing. Lake Report: Locals are starting to catch fish in 4-6 foot of water slow rolling spinnerbaits and jigs. I talked to a guy yesterday who set out 50 yoyo's and in one evening he caught his limit of white perch and bass. He said the ten bass he kept were all between 2-4lbs. That was on the saline side. Larto is a little deeper than Saline and so the fish can be found in a little deeper water. Larto lake averages about 15' of water with about 25' being the deepest. Most banks are loaded with cypress trees and grass and the north side of the lake is shallower with liliypad stubble. The Northern part of the lake is deeper and usually holds the bigger fish. The best spot on larto lake this time of year is behind larto island. Larto island is a 5 mile long island and is the very back of the lake behind the island there is a couple of coves with 5' of water loaded with cypress trees. Many good fish are taken here every year around February. My personal advice, slow roll a spinnerbait until you catch one or two and then slow down with a jig and fish the place thoroughly. Good luck to you!
  25. Thanks ya'll, I am going out next Friday to practice a little, so I will try some of these places and let you know how I do. Thanks for the help!
