  1. St. Croix and Dobyns are both great companies with great products. You cant really go wrong with either one. The Zillion is a good choice of reel also. As for line, I would recommend using braid, such as Suffix 832, with a floro leader. Just cut about 4 feet of floro and tie it to the end of your braided line. This way you have the added sensitivty and no stretch of braid with the invisibility and abrasion resistance of floro.

  3. Your numbers dont match up...55%-60% reduction and only buying 4 bags of senkos means you would have only bought 9-10 bags, not 25-30. Or the reduction rate is much greater than you think... Sorry, my brain is wired for this kinda stuff...
  4. What are some conditions that affect the bass at night? I know moon phase, but not really sure how that works, but what about high pressure, cloud cover, wind direction? I know how these affect bass during daylight hours, but do they affect them the same at night? Thanks, Josh
  5. Catt, I have tried night fishing out there a few times, but havent caught anything until daybreak. Is it better to fish in the evening through dark, lets say 5 p.m. - 12 a.m. or start early and fish through daybreak, like 12 a.m. - 7 a.m.? Thanks for the help. It just gets too hot this time of year to fish all day, but its frustrating not catching at night!
  6. I love to punch senkos when the grass is matted...I always catch a few hogs doing that!
  7. Use braid!!! And load the rod before setting the hook.
  8. Correct me if Im wrong, but the trim MOTOR shouldnt cost that much. I bought mine for a 200hp Mariner a few months ago for $270. The entire trim system may be $1200, but just the motor should be much cheaper.
  9. You make me sick...that is unheard of around here. When we goin?
  10. Congrats...always feels good when u catch a few.
  11. Is the Luck E Strike closer to the RC or the KVD? Been thinking of getting some, but I already have 3 3700 boxes full of squarebills...
  12. Although most will probably disagree, I find that I catch more fish than most on cranks because I use a 5:1 ratio reel and they use 6 or 7:1 ratio. I think the slower reel gives you more control of the bait.
  13. Alot of good rods out there, its according to your price range $50=H2O rod, Berkely Lightning rod $75=Abu Vendetta $100=Abu Verita, Carrot Stick, St. Croix Mojo or Premier, Falcon Buccu, Shimano Compre, Lamiglas Excel $150=Powell, Dobyns Savvy, Shimano Crucial, Duckett rod, Kistler Magnesium, Falcon Lowrider $200=Dobyns Champion, Shimano Cumara, St. Croix Avid, Kistler Helium, Falcon Cara Anything over $200 is going to be a quality rod. My advise, spend as much money as possible on a rod for bottom contact baits, because generally speaking, the more $, the more sensitive. Once you get into the $150 range you are in a different world from the cheaper rods. The rods that I prefer in each catagory are highlighted. These are by no means the only rods in each catagory, just the ones that I am familiar with and have used.
  14. I have a Powell 703CB Glass rod that I love for ripping traps with. It has plenty of backbone to rip them through grass, but it is slow enough for if a bass hits when I am ripping the trap, the rod will give way so I dont rip the bait out of the fish also. I aint saying its right, but it works for me. For normal cranking I use a Carbonlite M/M and it does a great job. The graphite is much more sensitive than the glass rod and it still has a moderate tip to give way to a surging fish. I can even feel a bass suck a crank in its mouth vs. hitting it from the side on that rod! Squarebills...now thats a whole nother story. I like a MH/F rod to bring them suckers out of the thick stuff!
  15. YoZuri Hybrid will manage the best out of your 3 choices. Im not sure what you plan on doing with this line, but if you are just looking for a managable line, then look at mono or braid. Braid has no memory whatsoever and a good mono (Suffix Seige) has very little. If you choose one of the 3 you mentioned, make sure you get Line and Lure and spray them all down. This will help drastically!
  16. Line and Lure is a must!!! Also, if you do any topwater fishing I would leave the CXX on one reel for it because floro sinks and will hinder the action of a topwater bait. Invizx is great line and I use 20lb for flippin and pitchin alot too. Try 15lb Invizx too for spinnerbaits and weightless lures. The line diameter between 20lb and 15lb is drastic, but it is still plenty strong.
  17. There is nowhere to run to to escape natural disasters. Down here on in the Southeast we get pounded with Hurricanes. Some get floods, some get tornadoes, some mudslides, volcanoes, ect. But, like Long Mike stated, the odds are not very high that you or me will be affected to an extreme in these issues. If 4 people die out of 50,000,000 the odds are in our favor.

  19. I bought my first Powell last year (704C). I loved it!! I now own 3 Powells and plan on getting more. They are great rods for the $ IMO. And like it was said, the warranty is next to none. I broke my 704C Max series and got back a 714 Endurance for free! So not only did I get a new rod, but i got an upgraded rod.
  20. The reels are more fun to play with, but when it comes down to business, the rod is the vital tool. Especially for bottom contact baits, a higher quality rod will make a huge difference. The general rule of thumb is 1/3 of money goes to reel and 2/3 to rod.
  21. College is not that difficult of a process if you put the time into. I graduated last May with a 3.5 and I didnt even buy a book after my freshman year. If you keep your mind on important things (studying, class, hanging out, FISHING) and shy away from the partying scene, then you will do just fine. But in all honesty, college is what you want it to be. You have the freedom to do as you choose, I just chose to fish and hunt. Most of my friends went off and chose to party and are now working at the local gas stations . Your choices will affect the outcome of your college career, and your college career will affect your job opportunities. Just think, the diffrence between a college degree and a high school diploma is estimated to be between $800,000 and $1,000,000. Think of the Legend bass boat you could buy and how many Dobyns rods and baits you could buy with that!
  22. Already made an order at BTD!!! Great products and great prices.
  23. Try it out and see for yourself. Parabolic rods are normally just catagerized as "crankbaits and topwater" rods, but a heavier rod with a moderate action can be a great jig rod and/or T-Rig rod. Some even like them for spinnerbaits.
