  1. I caught some good fish yesterday on Saline Lake of a white Spro frog. They were just killing that thing. My best 5 went 16lbs. I wish I could have went today, but couldnt find anyone to go with, so I stayed at home.
  2. Find some lighted boat docks and throw a spinnerbait, frog, and big worm around them. THat is how I've had my best success on TB at night. The south bank in Housen normally produces some good fish.
  3. Buhlow is a relatively shallow lake with alot of grass and pads. It can be tough at times, but there are big fish in there. Seems like every year there is at least one double digit fish come out of there. I've had my best luck out there with rattletraps ripped through the grass or senkos. Its a weird lake to fish, no countor changes and has no cover. Good luck man. If I ever get my boat back Im going to bring you one day lol. That stupid thing still isnt fixed. I've been fishing with my dad out of my dad's boat since May.
  4. Never been there before, but my buddy grew up on the Sabine. He said they used to catch all their fish shallow in tops on spinnerbaits. Not much help, but thats all I got lol. I fished the Red River out of Red River South Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th and caught a bunch of shorts Friday morning on jerbaits. Moved to a point around 11 and caught a 6.5 and a 5lber in 3 cast. Left em for my club tourny saturday. Saturday I sat on that point from daylight to 1 and only got 7 bites, but they were all good fish. Caught a 6.75lber and a few 3's. Weighed in 17.5lbs for the win! Caught 2 on a crankbait and the other 3 on a carolina rigged fluke.
  5. Take a nap...
  6. If im going to tow my boat to the lake, I have to have atleast 4 hours to fish. Just not worth it with less time unless the fishing in unbelievable. I wanted to go this morning, but had a 9:00 a.m. meeting, so I slept in. I usually fish twice a week during the summer, so I'll say 15- 20 hours a week.
  7. I mix soap and toothpaste. It takes the smell away and isnt quite as rough on your hands as straight toothpaste.
  8. Either a Lucky Craft GDS Ghost Minnow or a T-Rigged Rage Craw
  9. I find it amusing that all you "northerners" are complaining about the heat. A high 90's day is a cold front down here in Louisiana this time of year. 100% humity at all times too makes it even worse. My wife and I cut as many corners as possible, so out A/C stays on 85 all day and night, but when your used to 110 - 120 heat index, 85 feels cold. I even cover up with a blanket in our 85 degree house lol.
  10. Nice fish...the fishing has been tough out there the past couple of weeks. Anybody been night fishing any? I read a couple reports of some BIG stringers caught at night on black emarld worms.
  11. A fluke is a very vesitale bait. You can fish them from top water to 20+ ft. if you have the patience to. They work well in alot of situation, but I'll give you a few that they exceed in for me. 1. Shallow grass- I love to throw it to the grass edge and let it sink, twitch it 2-3 times, the let it sink again. Make sure you are feeling for a fish before you start twitching it or you will pull it out of a fish's mouth and not even know it. This is my #1 fluke technique. 2. Carolina Rig- For me, the best carolina rig plastic ever! 3. Top water- Jerk the fluke numerous times until it starts flipping out of the water. Let it sink for a second then do it again. I've have many blow up on it as it wsa in the air!
  12. All I can comment on is the Sunline products. Shooter is a little less stretchy and a little abrasion resistant than Sniper, but Sniper is a little easier handling IMO. Toray Superhard actually tested as one of if not the best floros on the market in Tackletour's test.
  13. Nice fish...stay on em! P.S. I love those jigs too!!
  14. Veritas for sure...heads above the rest you named
  15. Well, Im a huge OKC fan, so I was glad they got PJIII. I think he was a steal that late in the first round and was ecstatic he fell into thier laps. I dont think they will deal Ibaka next year. To me, Ibaka is more valuable than Harden. Ibaka saves their bad defense at times with blocked shots and his offensive game has drastically improved. Harden is a prolific scorer, but he doesnt fit the system, they need spot up shooters, not 1 on 1 players like Harden. Westbrook can get into the paint at will and if they had shooters around him then they could do just like the Heat did to them, kick out for open 3's. I think you keep Westbrook, Durant, Ibaka and deal Harden. He aint stayin once his contract expires anyway...he wants to be THE man, not the 6th man. ALso, Im from Louisiana, so I was glad the Hornets got Davis. Im not as high on him as the rest of the world, but he will be solid. I do think they made a good pick at 10 though with Austin Rivers. He is NOT a pg, which is what they needed. They already have a solid sg in Eric Gordon, should have went with Kendall Marshall there. Heck Rivers wasnt even the best sg on the board at 10...Jeremy Lamb was still there. THey did get a steal at 46 with Darius Miller though!! 6'8", tough, and can flat out shoot the ball.
  16. I can assure you that it is not "operator error". I have been known to set the hook so hard that the fish comes flying out of the water lol. Actually, when I first started using braid, the first two hooksets I only reeled in the top lip of the fish haha. SO needless to say, my hooksets are stout...but i dont care if your hulk hogan, the mono will still absorb part of the hookset. You dont have to be setting the hook into a dumptruck for it to stretch, it will do so on a 1lb fish, I promise. Think, with a texas rigged worm, you not only have to penetrate the fish's mouth, but also the body of hte worm so every bit of power matters. Now Im not saying that you cant fish mono for plastics or jigs, I did it for years and caught a ton of fish, but until you use braid, you dont know what a real hookset is. Braid is actually not forgiving enough for me, thats why I prefer floro for most plastics, I like a little stretch becasue I set the hook so hard. Mono WILL stretch and WILL cause bad hooksets over time. Experience and science tells us that.
  17. Go to Americanlegacyfishing.com and get the Abu Garcia Revo SX. They have it for $99!! And I forgot to mention...sign up for the newsletter and get another $25 off. That gives you a Revo SX for $75!!
  18. Even bigger mono has quite a bit of stretch to it. It can be tough to get a good hookset with it on a long cast. Its hard to recognize uless you have used braid. Braid is responsive the second you move your rod, mono absorbs most of the rods movement. Floro is somewhere in between.
  19. FTO Deep Diver series...greatest tackle box made!
  20. I dont think anyone is relating stretching to breaking, but rather, when line stretches, it does not penetrate a hook as well. That is why you get bone jarring hooksets with braid, because it has zero stretch. IMO Big Game is decent line, and pretty good for its price. It has less stretch than most other cheap mono's and is fairly abrasion resistant. Watch out though as there are some bad spools that are just junk. I used to use it and it did the job, but floro has greatly improved my bottom contact fishing and braid is king around grass.
  21. We have huge mats of grass everywhere down here in Louisiana and I find the best thing to do is to fish cover or structure in the grass. You can get lost flipping mats all day long, so I normally look for holes in the grass, ditches running in the grass, wood cover in the grass, or where two different grasses come together. I like to fish it fast as most of the time I get bit on the initial fall. If I dont get bit on the intial fall, I may yo yo it 2 or 3 times then reel it back in quickly and flip the next peice of cover.
  22. I havent heard much from Cane River this entire year. Im sure they will shut the river down for a week or so here in the next few days for the 4th of July and blame low water or some bull. They always shut that place down to keep people off the water. I will start fishing up there in a couple weeks. My August club tournament is a night tournament there. If you go, let me know what they are doing...I love getting on some good schooling stripers!
  23. Im not sure why, but this is the funniest thing I have read in a long time!! Im still cracking up when I reread it!
  24. Poppers: 7' M/EF Shimano Crucial Sammy's: Powell 703CB Glass Frogs: Dobyns 734C Buzzbaits: 6'9" Vendetta MH/F
  25. If it were me, I would would order a Powell Diesel 723C and a Shimano Caius reel from tackle warehouse. That would put you at $140 and you would have a DARN good setup!
