  1. Hook a DD in 18 fow in a brushpile in thick hydrilla and see what happens...
  2. I would start around the mouth of Housen. Look for spotted grass on the flat between White Oak and the North Housen Boat Lane or run into Housen and fish the mats. Also, If you run north around the LA Islands about 1/2 mile or so on your right will be the landing to Pleasure Point. The point on the north side of the launch has ALOT of good grass and there is a hump about 250 yards off that point. Also, there is another hump about 200 yards north of the point that falls off into 25 ft of water. There are fish there, I promise! But dont tell nobody.
  3. I have 6 Heavy actions rods. I use them for flipping, pitching, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, jigs, ect. I love the Powell Endurance 714C. Best all around rod IMO.
  4. I miss reading his fishing reports and pictures!
  5. When the water is up its fine to run it, but when the water was low I fished that area a lot and saw a few boats hit stumps. The worst stump out there is actually in the boat lane just south of the White Oak junction bouy.
  6. Ok great! We are talking about one of my favorite spots on the lake, but Im still trying to learn it. Catt or anyone else, how do you go about fishing a flat of this size? I have caught a ton of fish there close to the river turn and around scattered grass patches, but I normally just fish a few "spots" on the flat itself? There is also the stump line that holds fish too, but I much rather fish the grass. How do you go about breaking down a flat of such large size, especially the areas that have no grass and little bottom contour? Or do you just not fish the majority of it and only fish small, areas with cover or structure?
  7. I have one particular Spro in Tropical White that has seen over 100 fish. I had to retire it due to large gashes in it and it taking on too much water. Ive bought several others in that some color, but they dont seem to have it like the first one did.
  8. Yea that flat is matted with grass right now, but you can see the creeks running through it. Wouldnt be a bad place to start...
  9. NICE!! I need to commit an entire day to flipping grass. I do it alot, but if I dont get bit within an hour or so I go back to the trusty ol football jig or crank.
  10. Awesome! Much better than I did.
  11. I fish the Ouachita, but farther south down by Harrisonburg some. There are alot of fish down there, but they are mostly small. I seem to catch more fish on the main river than backwaters, but bigger fish in the backwaters.
  12. Fished most of the day friday. Caught over 40 fish, but most were small. I really struggled to find fish besides the schoolers. I fished anything from 15-35 ft. with and with out grass and couldnt find em. Caught one a football jig, a few on topwater, and the rest on jerkbaits. I punched deep grass for over an hour without a bite too. I probably wont be back till September or so.
  13. I struggle when I get around acres of grass...I like to fish patches of grass or no grass at all. Earlier this year the mouth of Housen Bay had patchy grass and there were big fish in every patch! I havent been there in a couple months, so not sure if it matted or not, but this would be a great place to learn to flip grass.
  14. Hard to beat a 4/0 Trokar straight shank flipping hook for punching IMO
  15. The 6XD has produced the most fish in my boat the past year, BUT im playing with the freak by Luck-E Strike. Im starting to favor them over the 6XD...
  16. I stocked up last week on em. Cant beat that deal!
  17. I moved from Motorguide to Minnkota for a few reasons. MK comes through grass ALOT easier. MK is quieter, and I like the graphite shaft. Motorguide is a good trolling motor, but I rather MK.
  18. Glad to have someone else that fishes the Bend! Welcome aboard. Keep us updated with how you do out there, I wont be back until August 2-3.
  19. Im always fishing heavy cover, whether that is flipping or pitching around laydowns, grass, or cypress trees, or throwing a football jig on Toledo Bend in 30 fow in laydowns. I get bit plenty, probably more than most people I know, and I cannot tell a difference in bites with 16lb floro or 25 lb floro.
  20. Man yall use some light line!! I have 12lb mono on my deep cranking rod and other than that its 16lb+. I use 20 or 25lb floro on my jigs.
  21. Got on the water at 3:00 this morning and fished till 11:00. Caught ZERO fish in the dark and didnt put the first fish in the boat till 9:30. Got on a school of spots and 14" LMB and caught about 30. Went back from 2-5 this evening and caught 13 fish, top 5 weighed a little over 19lbs. Had 7 fish over 3.5lbs. All on a football jig in 28 FOW on mainlake ridges. Might fish out there again tonight...
  22. Called it a night early tonight. Fished till 1 with only 1 fish to show for it. She was a solid 4lber, but it was slow tonight, hoping it picks up tomorrow. And Cooyahn73, thats a good sack!
  23. Im heading up there at 330 today! Will be mostly fishing nights till Saturday, but will fish a little daylight too. Hoping to catch a dd this time around. Had a buddy catch 2 studs (8+) last night!
  24. Powell Go to thefishranger.com and they are only $109
